The meat was a bit fatty, but the portion size was decent enough and arrived on our table just as our feet were warming up from our walk in the Peak District. There was a full menu of what I like to call 'proper food' aswell as snacks and sandwiches and what quite a few vegetarian dishes too. Small carpark out front, but with the Inn being situated next door to the Hope Railway station, there is ample parking close by.

However, that pub stands out as a great mansion, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Overall, the drinks are more expensive than you would expect for such an isolated area. Blame it on the tourists, or on the tricky logistics ! The food is good. Our orders were also messed up, as I received a lamb burger with coleslaw, which I didn't want, and it came before the soup we took for starters... The burger lacked some taste, though... The potato mash was very rich and velvety, which suited the beef and ale pie perfectly. The carrot and coriander soup was also a great start to our dinner... The best moment ? Getting the last rays of sunlight in the huge garden, while reading books on one of their round tables.

While I feel the signage around the station could be improved for destinations, how to get to certain platforms and which lifts are out of order, it still is a pretty decent Interchange which makes arriving into Altrincham a little bit more pleasant. There are two railway platforms, two for Metrolink and of course the bus interchange all in one, currently, the Metrolink only runs from Piccadilly-Altrincham meaning if you're going past Piccadilly or aiming to go towards Bury, you will have to change along the way. It is in an old building too for the railway part, but it is pleasant and sheltered, I do think it's a great shame regarding a slight lack of signage especially for the lifts where you wouldn't know the lifts going to certain platforms were out of order until you get there, luckily this didn't effect me as the Metrolink into the city centre is just as quick as the train. 4*

Manchester Airports railway station is located inside the airport, just a lift up to the coach…read morestation and a short walk to all the terminals. Here you can board the metrolink now, on the blue line which goes up to Cornbrook, from there you can go near enough any stop what is run by the metrolink network. Trains also run from this location to Middlesbrough, Glasgow and Manchester Piccadily, even Liverpool and Leeds runs a direct train from here. The train takes 25 minutes to Piccadily which calls through East Didsbury and Gatley, the train works out much quicker as it would take 55 minutes to get to Piccadily on the metrolink, which includes a change at Cornbrook and doesn't include the waiting time expected there. Ticket inspectors seem to get on and off at this station from my experiance today. It is quite a quiet station and only something you would use when going to the airport really, it does not have any faciltieis close by apart from in arrivals and that is abit of a walk away. Toilets are avaliable here, I did only notice a ladies toilet but they is both genders around the corner near the National Express coach station. This railway station is just what you would expect from a big place like Manchester, with metrolink and rail links and they is shops and resturants, although few a short walk away but you don't want to be going there if you are not visiting the airport. for a Venue - Airport hub this is good however if it was supposed to be a major station then it could command 1 star but I feel 2 is fair. It would be nice if they was a newsagents or cafe in the station, to get the things you had forgot to get in the airport. UPDATE: This station just seems to far away from other terminals, for example being a good 10 minute walk away from Terminal 2 to the point where I can't really understand it, I understand they can't put this directly in the Terminal as there are three large terminals at Manchester too, but people travel to Airports with bags, and it just is too hard to get off the train and then find your Terminal from there and perhaps a service for holidaymakers to get help to the Terminal would be much better, rather than having too many staff who simply can't, so for now I sadly feel this station deserves a single one star in this update - Also this station serves at nothing more than getting you to and from the Airport and there is a lack of facilities until you get to the Airport anyway.

Beautiful grounds and exterior, but most rooms are nothing special (I've stayed in several of them…read moreat this point, all subtly different). Big issues? 1) There's no air conditioning (that'd be unforgivable in the U.S. but is more common in the UK, especially in historic buildings). Still, I have one window that opens and a small oscillating fan as consolation - thankfully it's not massively hot in the UK, even in mid-July, but it is humid, which makes things unpleasant. Still had to sleep with a screenless window open (one of two windows was screwed shut), but the bugs were actually not too bad. 2) There's acceptable included wifi and ethernet cords (didn't try this), but limited outlets for your computer and phone. My room literally has one usable outlet (with a travel adapter, of course). The nightstand lamps appear to utilize a different kind of plug that my universal adapter doesn't accommodate. Very annoying if you're here for business reasons, especially when the one usable outlet by the desk is being used for the small fan I mentioned in Item 2. Oh, the humidity! 3) Room service/bar food is undistinguished. The fish cakes are solid, as is the pasta, but like many British establishments, they murderously overcook beef and burgers. Dining in the restaurant is a fair bit better. Bar does have upwards of 30 kinds of gin, however, and a good selection of other spirits and beers. Again, the surrounding grounds are the draw here, and possibly the spa, which I admittedly haven't sampled.

The rooms themselves are pleasant, equipped with tea, coffee and a mini bar split into new and old rooms due to the old and new wings of the hotel. The lunch time food offered a good variety of food - carby, but this may of been what we selected as a company. Breakfast was really good with hot and cold foods, little jam/honey pots and brilliant tea! Dinner was a little bit disappointing we were served steak which was tough and over cooked and chips which seemed as though they had been under the head lamps too long! Not sure if this was because we were large party but nevertheless it shouldn't have been served that way! I had seen steak been taken to a small table earlier on in the evening and it was gorgeous and pink. Overall a nice place but wouldn't recommend the steak if you are a large party!

The food could be better and the menu does not change very often. Whilst not being particularly child friendly on the menu, if you ask, they will do childrens portions of things like sausage and mash and pasta in a tomato sauce. Good range of beers and you can even have a dimpled glass if you want. I go there regularly for an early doors drink.

What a refreshing change from the rickety Magic Buses with miserable drivers!…read more I recently had to get to Poynton (where?) for an interview and after consulting the GMPTE website, decided that it would be best to take a Baker Bus from Stockport. I didn't really know what I was looking for, but found a brand new yellow and blue bus complete with friendly driver. The driver chatted to many of the passengers and after my A to Z let me down, he helped me find where I had to get off. This bus service (391,392,393) runs from Stockport to Macclesfield and stops in many little places in between. Bakerbus also runs services around Crewe and Stoke. The only problem was that I had to catch the train back, as the next bus wasn't for 2 hours!

Nice local for a midweek pint with friends. Not been at the weekend so no idea what it's like then…read moreso can't comment. Food was ok, sort of stuff you want midweek when you just can't be bothered cooking. Not exactly 'slap up' stuff but does the job. Does specials on occasion apparently too. Would definitely go again. As a real ale drinker, good to see 4 hand pulls on the go, all JW Lees but good.
