Arriving on a pleasant, spring Thursday evening, there was already a fair amount of people sat around the large circular tables and tables for two. We were led to a table which was already occupied by a hot plate, powered by tea lights, a plate of prawn crackers and fanned napkins. It didn't take long for the waiter to take our drinks order and, after browsing through an extensive wine list, we settled for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for £14.To start, we decided the dim sum combo would allow us to try bite-sized portions of a fair few of the starters the restaurant had to offer. It included chicken satay skewers and spring rolls along with seaweed, which came in a little pot of its own.The sesame prawn toast stole the show for me and the sauce covering the spare ribs was tangy and delicious. The menu had a nice variety of dishes to choose for main, from chicken and vegetarian dishes to various meat and seafood meals.

Street parking is available outside, the waiting area is always relaxed and quiet and the speed of the service is always of a satisfactory level. On my recent visit, I purchased some sweet and sour ribs and a chicken chow mien. Both tasted great and were ready as soon as I arrived to collect the order, just 10-15 minutes or so after phoning through. The staff here are welcoming and polite, the atmosphere is friendly, with a hint of Chinese authenticity thanks to its lush décor and in my experience, the food is excellent.

I have tried several dishes from this takeaway and all have been consistently tasty. Like all good Chinese takeaways Mr Li gets extremely busy at weekends especially Friday and Saturday night when you'll be lucky to get anything but an engaged tone when you telephone, so be sure to get your order in early to stave off those hunger pains. I came away from my latest visit with the simplest of dishes, chicken fried rice and curry sauce. A simple dish it may have been but it was delicious. A generous portion containing plenty of tender fresh chicken pieces, the curry sauce was thick and spicy. The dish was piping hot even after the ten minute journey home. I'm confident you'll enjoy whatever you order.
