You know those stores that as you walk around, you think to yourself; "My mom would like this…read moreplace". Well, that's the Bedford Merchant Gift Shop in downtown New Bedford. They have good prices for quality items like those pictures with calming and comedic sayings that you hang in your kitchen, willow tree sculptures, and sometime half priced candles. I bought a mini Birthday card for my friend for only 50 cents! The Christmas section of the store was all half off because of it being September, and was very..very...Christmas-y. Many large and home-y gems like metallic bird baths, major dolls, and rocking chairs lined the back room. This place may not be for my generation, but If your shopping for your elders, preferably from 35-100, this is the place to go for gift time.

Very nice items however whenever I go to the yearly yard sales, last year they overcharged me and…read morethis year the boy working outdoors started adding my items in his head and out load and started the first item at $27, and the marked price was $10. I was already overcharged $17 as he continued adding up items. I stopped him, and instead I handed him the items and I counted the amounts with him so I didn't get ripped off. Then a female worker acted as she didn't trust me, so she added everything up again ( which I was fine and happy about) and she came up with the same amount I did. I am a middle aged educated adult who wouldn't rip them off. They do not provide a slip or write anything up so it's really hard to catch them overcharging. I love her items, just be careful with outdoor sales. This is the last yard sale at the New Bedford location, she is now in Dartmouth, Ma. Also, depending on who you are and what you look like, I saw a white woman being charged more for the same items and then charged to minorities at a lesser price. When questioned, the owner said everything should be priced, and these items were not. A white girl was charged $4 more than a minority woman purchasing the same item. I feel the white girl was treated unfairly. I was in disbelief, and wouldn't believe a minority owner would be prejudice had I not seen it with my own eyes. Being that the owner is very religious, she would be the last person that you would suspect. Not right!

Found this cute store through an ad on craigslist & what a find. I've been looking for a coffee…read moretable for a few weeks & found the perfect one here. The store is full with treasures on every inch of even the walls. Prices were reasonable but the staff was will to accept my lower offer for the cobblers table & that made me feel like I got a bargain. The staff even carried it out to my car & they were so friendly I can't wait to bring my friends by to see what they might find
