I went to redeem it today at Kenny's Garden Center in Fairhaven, June 29, 2026, and the owner, Kenny, told me "I told the person I gave the certificate to that it was only good for 30 days as the town has banned Bradford Pear trees because of being invasive." So, I asked him, "are you trying to tell me that this gift certificate is worthless?" He said "yup!" First, the statement is clear on the gift certificate - "This certificate is valid for any products or services provided by this company", and I believe in Massachusetts, it's illegal for gift certificates to expire - even though the certificate says absolutely nothing about expiring. I don't want anyone else to get burned by this guy. Bad business, bad look Kenny.

I was hoping to find someone at least knowledgeable on the type of soil I should get. Instead, I found Marsha, who was a complete houseplant expert. She advised me not only on the type of soil, but also a larger container, how to detangle the roots from the old soil, how many inches of dry soil to put into the new container for the potting, and how to fill the rest of the soil and "punch it." I had originally gone to a greenhouse this morning to get this type of advice, but they were not open. I was beyond surprised to get this level of service and knowledge from my local Home Depot.
