I would suggest you contact the center if that would be a concern. There was quite a few birds here in the area. The boardwalk needs a bit of repair as we had some very strong storms recently. It appears from the map we had of the area we missed about half of the area. The lady at the center was very welcoming and inviting. There were a lot of things in the center to appeal to groups of all ages. Admission was free and we really enjoyed ourself. There were a few bird blinds. Places to observe birds at. We plan on going back in when the pump is working again and see it with the water and wildlife.

The…read morepark attendant was helpful in telling us about the facility (boat launch, beach, camping facilities etc. we arrived around 8pm to check the boat out after doing some maintenance but still wanted to go on the lake for a couple of hours. with all the recent flooding they will have to repair the courtesy dock but fortunately the beach is not rocky so you can beach your boat there until the dock is finished. We did not go to the fishing pier but want to check it out soon. I did talk to a lady on the phone there and she was helpful in telling us the amenities.

And for those of us who live in the Metroplex it's a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. For one thing it's not that crowded. At least it wasn't when I camped there midweek. In fact I had my choice of places to pitch my tent. For another it is so much different terrain wise than my part of Dallas. MSP bills itself as being "at the top of the Hill County" and I believe it. Beautiful. There's a decent sized lake for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. (No fishing license required.) A variety of hiking trails for both beginner and jock. Hot showers and flush toilets. Many campsites have water and electricity but the most beautiful sites are primitive. The staff is friendly and helpful. Admission is $5 per person per day. Seniors get a price break with the appropriate pass. And for $70 per year you can bring a carload into any state park for free. For one full year. Check it out. If you're a frazzled city dweller like me you might just find that a night or two in a tent at the top of the Hill County might just fit the bill. I think I'll be going back.

Nice hiking trails with a little elevation, excellent birding, a playground for the kiddos and a lake to fish or splash around in. We came last July when it was sweltering. We rented a cheap cabin with A/C and mostly stayed on the water in our cheap inflatable. Today we tent camped and were able to hike the trails. It was beautiful with all the wildflowers. Very peaceful especially in the primitive camping area.
