Starbucks Sell By Date; Reached! Over-roasted, Over-rated, Over-hyped and Overpriced. At the risk of being lynched by my neighbours here in Bridgeland, let me provide you with my objective view of why I have fallen out of love with Starbucks Coffeehouses or whatever they now call their old-fashioned rundown, dull and dreary spaces. Littered with poorly selected loose furniture nearing it's design life, and stained with coffee and infused Tazo chemicals called flavoured tea. I remember the early 90's in Vancouver, when Starbucks and Chapters competed for my attention and dollars. It was never about the ridiculous cost of the latte, or the ridiculous cost of a Guatamalian Antiqua with Wings, it was about the sensational pleasure of savouring some of the finest coffees and friendliest people, in an environment that was inherently intellectual, cool, comfortable and upbeat. I would have paid $25 for a Turkish Coffee made in a proper Ibrik, and served in a demitasse, if they had it available. How times have changed. Desperately trying to maintain loosing market share and offer "innovative" coffee and food alternatives, we have a selection of cold slurpee coffees and teas, infused with God knows what, chemicals and creamers, we have their latest amazing product!!! Instant Coffee. I'm sorry, Walking into any Starbucks location now is a painful experience. The service generally is bland, boring and disinterested. I can go into the store a few times and there is no recognition that they've served you a week ago! These zombies (baristas) obviously live in a Starbucks world, where they simply steam, they grind, they pour, they roast, and they appear to be miserable at the best of times. I take my coffee very seriously, and I expect great coffee and great service when I am paying top dollars for that pleasure. Starbucks no longer delivers on that promise or pleasure. Do yourself a favour. Toss a coin and select a small unpretentious coffee shop close by you. It will probably be a better bet! read more

Full disclosure: I used to be a barista (not here), but I drop that fact when I come in. So I'm not sure if it is Barista-bonding or what, but I've always had pretty good service here. Sometimes it gets a little slow, but by and large I can get the full Starbucks menu pretty quickly. The store does a decently brisk business, but most people get their coffee to go. It's easy to find an empty table which I adore. This Starbucks is right by my house, so I drop in for coffee dates sometimes. It is great to have a place that is so convenient. The little strip mall it is located in has a number of adorable businesses that are fun to pop into if you take your coffee to go, and there is a nice park a block away that is perfect for frolicking and caffeinating in Calgary. Yes, it is still Starbucks, but Starbucks can't be beat for the consistency of it's beverages. Definitely one of the better Sbux in Calgary. read more

Super fast service! Dollar for a muffin! Most Starbucks locations are the same, so it's hard to review them individually. I would like to give a shout tout to this location (which is in my neighborhood) as they always hire very friendly staff which I enjoy, they have VERY fast service - which I find amiss at many locations, and makes an effort to create a fun atmosphere. The store is very organized, always clean, the drinks always come out consistently delicious and the seating area is usually full. As a bonus, they do have some outside seating for nice days to you can people watch a main strip in growing Bridgeland. April Challenge 1/30 read more

I don't live in the neighbourhood but a meeting has had me in the area on Saturday mornings for the last few months. While my drinks have been good, service is lacking. Cashiers/baristas aren't the friendliest. And miss the little things - like giving (or offering) me a spoon when I purchase a yogurt. The coffee shop is also pretty small for the amount of people coming through. All in all, not the best Starbucks I've visited. read more

The strip that this store is in is pretty much the only thing around Bridgeland without having to venture over to Edmonton Trail, up to 16th Ave, or into the core. The store is small for the size of crowd it brings in, especially the seating area. They've crammed in as many tables as they can with most lining the side wall making for an elbow rubbing experience with whoever is sitting beside you. While I wouldn't say the store is dirty, it has an unkempt feel to me. The temporary displays are squeezed in and the customers have to cram in to get in line. Okay, so I never thought I'd see the day where I reviewed a Starbucks. But seriously guys- why all the hate? You know this is a chain coffee shop. Everyone knows what to expect when they go in here. Does this location really warrant a 2.5 star review? Reasons why this Starbucks is less soul sucking than others, in my opinion: -When I lived in Bridgeland forever ago, this was one of the ONLY things that was open past 6 pm. When too lazy to make our own coffee, my roommate and I would take study breaks, bundle up, and trudge the few blocks in the snow over to this coffee shop, where tea mistos and pumpkin spice lattes (for her) awaited. -This is a good study/workspot with dependable wifi, and after the usual rush in the morning is much quieter than other shops I've been to. -This is one of the larger locations I've seen. I like the two cozy armchairs, and there are lots of places to sit without feeling like you're eavesdropping on others or have the coffee grinding sounds in your ears. -Maybe this is bias as a couple friends have worked here over the years, but even prior, I have always found the staff friendly and clever. Maybe it is the comradery as Katie discussed as I've worked in (independent) tea/coffeeshops too, but I have a bone to pick. Just because someone happens to work for a corporate coffee shop, doesn't make them a "mindless zombie". Most of the baristas I know are artists who would like to supplement their income with a low stress job while doing their work, or university students paying their way for school. Has anyone ever called you a mindless drone for working your cop out oil and gas job for such and such corporation? Lay off, grow up, or go watch SLC Punk again and cry yourselves to sleep. -The baristas KNOW they work at Starbucks, but some of them enjoy their jobs and would like to make you a killer drink. If you're feeling indecisive, try asking a friendly barista behind the counter what they really like on the seasonal menu, and they'll probably be happy to share with you. I had a pretty awesome tea misto today just because I asked. Of course I prefer an independent shop; but if I am in Bridgeland and need someone to camp out for a little bit, this is totally one of the most reasonable options. read more

Are you kidding me? My girlfriend has moved to Bridgeland recently and I have started frequenting this Starbucks location. I have been to severa starbucks locations around the whole city and nothing even compares to how pathetic this place is. The staff are clueless and unfriendly. Slow. Were talking VERY SLOW. Don't expect to go in at any time when there are more than 5 people in line and expect to wait less than half an hour. None the less you're spending $10 on 2 coffee's and waiting this long. I will never be going to this location ever again although it is only 3 blocks away from where I am. I will drive to another location just to save myself the stress. At this Starbucks, I have really enjoyed the amazing, and friendly service. The baristas make your drinks amazingly fast, but at the same time the drinks come out delicious. One of my All time favourite drinks at Starbucks has been the "Passion Fruit Iced Tea" another is the "Caramel latte" and one of my favourite drinks for this holiday season, "The Peppermint Mocha!" read more

As far as Starbucks go, this one is about average. If you're in Bridgeland, it's far superior to the one in Edmonton Trail and memorial, the service there is brutal. The staff is pretty friendly and have never screwed up my order, which is usually the best you can ask for at Starbucks. The interior is not the cleanest....i've seen much cleaner locations. Like the fact that you can sit out front and people watch everyone one first ave. They should have a staff member who serves out front though. Wouldn't a walk up window here be great? That's my suggestion for any Starbucks I. A pedestrian area like this one. read more

I am a regular, (in fact I am the four square Mayor :-) at this Starbucks - so why do I give a 1? In general the service is average but yesterday I went there and their debit and credit machine was not working which is a regular occurrence, they informed me of this after I made my order, I said I did not have cash but would be happy to stop back latter to pay, (any other Starbucks would have comped the latte in an instant) they said sorry and looked at me like I had a hole in my head, (also of note to add some color I had just walk their from my house and had baby Harper strapped to the front of me). So this morning my wife does the Starbucks run, she straps on Baby Harper and walks the five blocks, (up Hill both ways) to Starbucks, as she is leaving I tell her to be sure to take cash. She gets to Starbucks makes her order, they tell here that the Debit and Credit is not working, she says fine and hands them cash, they then say "we don't take cash over $20 bills! She just ordered two coffees which cost about $10 and they won't take larger than $20? Again the staff look at her like she is the one who does not get how the world works. read more

I love Starbuck's....but have noticed that my favorite location has had a rapid decrease in customer service. I loved getting greeted by name and choice of drink. Too bad that all the best staff are gone except for Evelina. read more
