We are traveling and stopped off for Gas. Starbucks is close by and it was mid-morning so a snack and drink were in order. The store employees were wearing masks and a sign on the door requested you wear a mask upon entry. It is not often they get an order wrong but this time it was messed up big time. I am glad I tasted it before driving off. I ordered a chai tea with soy, iced and when I took my first swig my taste buds were assaulted. . I received an iced latte. You may ask what is wrong with that but I am a non coffee drinker and a swig of Coffee to me is like licking an ashtray. But Starbucks sticks true to their policy and made it right by making me the correct drink. I felt bad throwing it out but the only other person in our vehicle Who does drink coffee does not like it iced. So I am a happy camper heading down the Road with a tasty chai iced tea. My husband tried the Dragon drink and loved it. I tried it and pulled the cap off to get a taste of the " errors" floating on the top. Never great to get a hair in your drink. Inside cashier who took our drink orders took 7 more orders from people behind us before warming up our sandwiches. There were other staff whom she could have asked to help her if she could not weave that in. And she kept interrupting our ordering to help another staff person find stuff in cabinets. Decent SBUX. What makes it "decent" you ask...well I'll tell you. The pleasantries were scarce and personalities non-existent. I didn't even receive a "Thank you" and we all know that's free of charge. What's nice about this location is their setup. It was Where are you inviting. Open dining space filled with high tops & tables for groups. Sofa chair seating in the corner for those seeking solitude. Charging outlets so you're never out of juice. I also liked the selection of ceramic mugs, colorful tumblers, coffee and other merchandise. The shelves were neatly organized. The drive-thru is another plus. This place creates a safety hazard with its drive through operation. The line of cars is easily 20 cars long and extends out onto Keller Drive. Cars needing to turn right onto Avenue of Mid America are blocked by this line. If Starbucks cannot manage the drive through lab then they need to close it. This is a safety hazard. read more

Ok so, I always prefer to explore and support my 'locals.' This can be verified by many of my past cross country roadtrip posts. However, this past year I gained a few members in my household which hampers my abandoned freedom a bit. When seeking a java jolt Starbucks is an expected consistent experience for a quickie. This location was such the case. My window clerk was perky and sporting some shocking purple (or was it magenta?) in her hair. They got our (simple) order correct. I thought I'd inquire about their competitors. I don't think this should be something to frown upon, in fact a gracious business should always support others in their industry. This young lady obliged me with a couple of citations to include a 'call out' to her previous employer. All this earned them four stars. They missed a fifth star because I could hear, in the background, my server getting the fifth degree for obliging me. I find such ungenerous behavior irksome. Come on folks, remember that someone is always watching. And being 'good folk' is just darn good behavior. read more

We walked into the store because the drive thru line was very long. We ordered a white chocolate mocha latte. The people ahead of us got their order, the woman behind us got her order. But after 20 minutes they hadn't even started ours. We finally asked for our money back. It looked like that most of the workers were serving the drive thru. If I ever go back I will only use the drive thru. I understand how traffic can back up so the drive thru line needs to move. But they should post a sign that tells you'll have long wait if you order inside. read more

I came here on my way to Columbia, MO from Indianapolis, IN. I stopped to charge my phone after a panic-inducing near phone death, with about a 3 hour drive still ahead of me. You see, I exclusively travel by the guidance of Google Maps (learning to read a map properly is on my bucket list), or else I get lost. Sad, but true. This store is spacious, clean, and I had no trouble finding an outlet. I am in love with their La Boulange selection! I'm feeling envious of Chicago-area Starbucks customers (apparently this area is a major test market for new products). The baristas here were SO friendly and happy to recommend pastries and talk about the product selections I didn't recognize. This Starbucks is one of the most unprofessional establishments I have been to. It took me 20 minutes to get a refresher. The employees are talking and having a social hour while making drinks and talking to a customer over the counter who appeared to be an employee on break. Employees would also stop in the middle of making drinks to look at something the other employee made saying "it looks like a tiger"...like what? Effingham is a prime stop for travelers who are trying to be in and out. I understand having to wait when it is busy but the amount of time it took to make a single drink was unacceptable. I used to work at Dunkin Donuts and I know that you need to have a sense of urgency and focus that is needed to get orders out. Didn't feel like the customers were a priority nor their job duties. I know this location is busy because it's likely the only Starbucks on all of I-57 for CHI to MEM travelers, but get it together... I stopped in looking forward to splurging on a latte during my 8 hour drive. The crew was super anxious and spazzy. Nobody really spoke to me more than the bare minimum. My $7 drink tasted like crap. And probably the worst part of my visit was the store manager hustling toward the bathrooms and slammed into me while walking by. No apology. No acknowledgement of it. Just kept going. Perfect location, Effingham off the I-70 between St Louis and Indiana. Easy on off and if you have time to eat at firefly grill just a stone's throw down the road, it's totally worth the stop. Great place to stay overnight. read more
