They always mess my order up almost every time I go here somehow. I asked for a strawberry açai lemonade and the woman doesn't even speak so it was getting awkward, and then I just said "could I get it with light ice?" And she said "sure. " and then she said the price which I forget what it was. So it was also my bad but I forgot to say what size I wanted, but she didn't even ask me what size I wanted in the first place! So then she made my drink and when I got it, it didn't have any strawberries on the top, which mind you I never said no strawberry inclusions. It also was a grande. I hate when they do that and just assume you want a grande. So then I went back to my car and I had a sip and it was like they mixed lemonade and one drop of strawberry juice! Worse service ever!! I've been a gold card member for 15+ years.... and I just got the worse service ever. Kianna - was the preparer of my drink order. It literally took 15 minutes and it wasn't even that busy considering how Starbucks usually is. She grabbed my cup to start the drink, then started stocking the cupboards after going back and forth to the backroom... stopping to chat with coworkers as I waited. People who were in front of me, were long gone after being served by the guy and two females, but Kianna took her time. I asked the guy what's taking so long....he said she's working on it....we both looked and she was stocking and talking not working on my drink. Until I said I want a refund. I don't usually come to this Starbucks when in the Bayer's Lake area, mainly because I usually go to the one in Chapters, but also because this one is kind of awkward to get to and tucked away in a weird spot. Other than that it is a really nice Starbucks to go chill/study/socialize at. There's a lot of seating and a lot of places to charge your electronic devices, something which is all too often neglected at many establishments. I also like that the wifi is fast (by my measurements) even when the place was packed. A couple more lounge chairs may have been nice, but that's just really splitting hairs. If you have a coffee budget of under $5.00 per cup, I highly suggest you visit Tim Horton's or McDonalds. I usually do not make Starbucks my stop-shop for my coffee every morning. It's really just a place I grab a speciality coffee when I'm browsing Chapters for a book or if I'm really deserving a luxurious treat! My favourite speciality coffee is the Grande White Chocolate Mocha. OH MY! Although I almost chocked when the worker told me I was paying nearly $6.00 for a medium coffee, all I had to do was try it once to be completely sold it. YUMMMMY! It has the softest, most delicate hint of chocolate with a zap of expresso. Yesterday I went in to treat myself with a coffee and I noticed a 'low fat brownie' starring up at me calling my name through the glass on their shelf. Yes, yes, yes I know that Starbucks is known for being over priced and not offering the quality of smaller, independently owned cafes. This review is not about the quality of the product offered here (as every Starbucks sells the same things made essentially the same way). Obviously if you aren't a fan of Starbucks on a fundamental level, you won't enjoy any location. I felt the need to post this review however because of the AMAZING staff I've encountered every single time I've been to this particular location. I'll confess that it was primarily laziness that led me to this location the first time. The idea that I could throw on sweats and enjoy the anonymity of the drive thru rather than having to locate parking (never an easy task downtown) and actually GO IN to the store made this my default location. I'll admit I even occasionally drive past other, more difficult to park at city locations to head to the clayton park one instead. Every time i've gone here I've always found the people working the drive thru window INCREDIBLY friendly. They always go way beyond the usual polite manners that have come to be expected from customer service workers. One girl regularly inquires about how my day is going with genuine interest and chats and tells stories while I'm waiting for my coffee order (which is never typically a long wait btw). I consistently leave the drive thru window feeling happier and in a better mood than when I entered the line up. I will continue to drive a little further to hit up this location. read more

Without great customer service, this place would get three stars. I love the look of Starbucks! And I love that it is consistent with its appearance no matter where you are in the world. They are overpriced, I won't deny that. But for the layout and overall environment, I'm fine paying a few cents more. This Starbucks store in particular deserves praise however. I don't know if its the Manager of this one store or not but they hire the most amazing, professional, friendly and funny staff I have seen in any Starbucks! And I have high standards. For example, I went into Starbucks today to have breakfast. So I ordered a Vivanno, which is basically a healthy smoothie. The girl behind the cash register recommended I add chocolate to the strawberry and banana Vivanno. Me being a person who likes to live on the wild side of life decided to jump on the opportunity to "mix it up." Well she was very right. It tasted great! The Staff at this Starbucks seem to be happier than other locations and they also run their operation like some sort of perfect ballet. The environment of the store is the same as other locations which I like. But the reason Starbucks will forever have four stars and not five is because of their wireless Internet. Its not free! This has been a problem with Starbucks for a long time and I bet that if they did a study when they were changing from free to paid wireless service, they would have found a drop in the amount of customer's and overall customer satisfaction. Given the fact that the majority of locally owned, and some franchised coffee shops now offer free Wi-Fi, it is ridiculous that the most famous coffee shop is so "behind the times." I have been to many Starbucks and never thought I would actually review one. But the one on Parkland and Lacewood Drive in Halifax is so good thanks to its staff, I felt compelled to show my respect and gratitude. Cheers! read more

Sometimes, you just want to 'pop in' to places because they're cool. This is one of those places. And by 'pop in', I mean hang-out-on-a-comfy-chair-and-overstay-my-welcome. As Collette O. notes in her review, this place is simply the best for people watching. From first dates to divorce-lawyer meet-ups and everything in between (job interviews, group meetings, and solo 'I'm here because I want to meet someone' (that was never me) peeps). What a spot. Complete with newspapers, fireplace, plenty of too-close seating clusters so you can overhear fabulous gossip and takes on life you'd never hear anywhere else. I mean...if you ever lose tv or internet, just go here - you'll get caught up! Oh, and those two times that my venti pike place roasted coffee had grinds in the bottom of my cup, and it took me an hour to get the homemade-toothpaste feeling from my mouth? No worries. S#iT happens. Staff not only apologized and provided another venti (which should be illegal), but remembered me the next time I came in and gave me a freebie bevvie. London Fog, you have my heart, soul, and $5. I'm also ever so excited that there is an alternative to Tim's drive-thru. This particular location is in Clayton Park, and is never overly busy. I've been there several times and the service is always fast, friendly, and more or less knowledgeable. I know a lot about the hot beverages and what makes my heart smile, so I'm never hard on the teens. The debit machine has been down the past 3 times I've been there-- all 2 or so months apart (in between cash transactions), and have never been hassled for another form of payment-- they give me my order complimentary. The food is ok.. I have been to their drive through several times and it's not bad.. But today I decided to step in.. The place is clean and nice.. However what surprised me was the service .. Unfriendly and wastes time..and to top it off.. I was rudely accused of not paying for something I asked for!! Come on!! I paid for everything else! I used to like this Starbucks location, but my last two visits have made me not want to go back for a while. One morning recently, I went through the drive-thru on my way to work because it was the most convenient place to stop, and I really wanted to get a breakfast meal that I could eat on the go because it was a rushed morning. I ordered my usual coffee plus a bagel with cream cheese. I was in my happy 'anticipating eating a yummy bagel' place, when I opened the package to start munching and found a plain toasted bagel with two small packages of cream cheese. That's. It. They apparently couldn't even take 30 seconds and spread it for me - apparently they are above that at Starbucks. And while even that is slightly understandable, what I definitely don't understand is that they didn't even give ME a knife so that I could spread it myself. So much for eating on the go! Now I'm a reasonable person - I understand that sometimes you catch a business on a bad day, so I'm usually (depending on the infraction) willing to give most places a second chance. Therefore, I popped in again on the way to work just two mornings ago, and this time got off my butt and went in, thinking it would be faster. There was no one at the cash when I walked up so I patiently stood at the counter, waiting to be served. Within a minute or so, someone came over and proceeded to take the order of the guy behind me, in other words, completely ignore me. Worst of all, when I pointed out the fact that I was there first and hadn't ordered yet, no one apologized or acknowledged the error in any way. It was hard to tell if they were just stunned or just didn't care. Either way, it was not a positive start to my morning. I hate to rant, especially since I have had good service here and I hate to not visit this place anymore because it is really convenient and I like the coffee, however the service is just so inconsistent here that I don't look forward to going anymore. Sure, you could argue that you can't expect much from a McChain like Starbucks but I have visited other locations (namely the Dartmouth Crossing one) where I have always been treated extremely well, so I don't feel that's an excuse. Ugh. WHY am I such a Starbucks loyalist? It's really not because of their coffee. Which, for me, is just OK. But I do really like that you can always be sure you'll run into someone you know or be distracted by some tremendous people watching. The latter makes the foolish price of my latte worth every penny. For me, this location is the best in the HRM. You're not always guaranteed a seat (at least not right away), but it always has a good energy and the fireplace is great. And, I really love the staff. They're friendly and remember me, which makes it feel like my local suburbia coffee joint. This small town girl appreciates that. I sacrifice drinking better coffee elsewhere for the Cheers-esque appeal of this location. And sometimes, that's just as important as the coffee itself. read more

There are some really sweet youngins that work at this particular Bucks. I'm not a regular Starbucks junky, but when I do find myself at this location, it's nice to be served with a smile, and that refreshing "first job ever" energy that only a 16 year old can bring. When you pull into a drive-through and you're greeted with a bubbly, enthusiastic voice, it's definitely uplifting. Then you pull up to the window and a genuinely happy youth takes your money, and gives you a beverage, with a hint of newby hesitation. If you decide to drink-in, there's a little patio around back that can be a nice reprieve from the standard Starbucks decor. If you hit it at high noon, or a little thereafter, you're bound to get some sun and a nice breeze (if it's that kind of day). If you're in the area and cannot go any longer sans espresso, this is a pretty friendly Bucks to grab a java from. read more

Ok, say what you will about Starbucks. Infact most things I will likely agree with you on. Yes, its over-hyped. Yes it is over priced. But my oh my don't I adore just about everything they offer. Ok, so I'm a self professed coffee junkie. I love coffee shops of many varieities. I love SBs big comfy, cushy chairs. The words "I'll have a grande cinnamon dulce latte with soy, no whip" roll off my tongue just as smooth as butter. It really is a sick love obsession I have with this particular beverage. I will admit I cheat on my beloved cinnamon dulce from time to time with an iced caramel machiatto. Unlike a certain other coffee chain, I find with SBs I get the same thing at every location: if I order the grande-cinnamon-ducle-latte-soy-no whip at this location or another it is always the same. The service is always hit or miss with SBs, though I generally find the Parkland crew to be slightly friendlier than other locations. The Spring Garden / Robie location is pretty good service wise too. Over priced? Yup. Over hyped? Yup. Am I a fan? Yup! read more

Every location (based on my experience, at least) seems to offer the same thing - decor designed to cater to my hipster affinities, friendly and prompt service, and delicious, sugary overpriced drinks that I'm pretty sure I would marry if given the chance. I'm not proud of how often I utter the words "Could I please have a grande skinny caramel machiatto". I'm even less proud of how I often I ask for a "grande skinny decaf caramel machiatto", because it sounds even more ridiculous but caffeine makes me jittery after 5pm. But it's delicious. This location is really convenient if you're on the road because it has a drive-through. Sometimes, on a rainy day, nothing is better than not even having to get out of the car for your pumpkin spice latte. read more

I'm a Starbucks fan from way back. For me, the consistency of being able to order the same drink anywhere in the city and have it come out perfectly is worth a bit of a premium price. This location on Parkland Drive is one of the few drive-through locations in the city. On sunny days, especially mid-morning, you can easily wait 10 or 15 minutes for your turn at the window (but that beats heading inside, right?). We love the iced coffee through the summer months. Premium Starbucks coffee blended with cream (or milk, your choice), served over crackling ice cubes. Delicious (and much better than the imitation Tim Horton's brought out last year). For the winter months, we tend towards a chai latté - mine is extra hot, extra sweet, no water (a trick learned from a friend of mine). As for take-home merchandise, well - as with the ready-to-go coffee, the beans and cups are marked up significantly over the grocery store versions. Some people swear by it - and I do like the spill--proof cup I bought a few months ago - but for my money, I can get beans from Just Us! and feel better about myself. But like I said - Starbucks delivers a great tasting consistent product every time. For a coffee fiend like me, that's priceless. read more

i enjoy this location. it's quick, very efficient and the staff is always friendly and ready to serve. There is a great variety of purchasable goods at this location everything from coffee, to mugs, cold travel tumblers, sleeves for your cups, and even gift bags. This location also has to have one of the nicest outdoor seating areas! It's more or less located in a little nook just outside the main entrance. Nestled between the Starbucks building itself and the bank's drive thru next door. This location's drive thru is also really efficient and can serve a great number of cars at once! The only con to this location is that it can be a bit noisy and hard to find seating inside as it is usually packed with coffee sippers, book readers and laptop users. Which can lead to a bit of noise, but not too bad in comparison to some locations. Common yes which I'm not complaining about, I just wish it wasn't such a wonderful location sometimes so that I too could partake in the comfiness of the indoor seating next to the fire place. lol. All in all a great location. I choose this one often when in the Bayer's Lake/Clayton Park area. read more

I refuse to go to a place where they pretend they don't understand me when I ask for a medium and correct me with "you mean... Grande?" Ughhhh, as much as I usually don't go to Starbucks, the main reasons why I give THIS particular Starbucks a horrible review are as follows; (I should note, I have only been here once and will never return) 1- The staff are all a bunch of idiots, and if you want to order just a hot chocolate they still tend to make you the most complicated thing ever. 2 - If you do order something a little complicated (in their standards) they will still mess it up, give it to you anyway, and TELL you, "that is what you ordered" 3 - The staff will ignore you as much as they can, only because they wish they could hang out with the people who are lounging around there 4- The drive-threw driver's are angry because they were not able to make it in and talk really loud on their cellphones. and finally 5- The people who generally stay in Starbucks, like to stay there all day.
