There was 1 young lad on staff and 1 older guy outside making some pretty interesting and impressive swirly dessert things out of some sort of liquid that he was squeezing into a vat of oil, I have to say that I was impressed! He seemed to be a PRO at making these desserts that looked similar to a pretzel but orange. I didn't try one but it looked great anyway - I;m just not a fan of fried things... The pictures online didn't mirror the inside at all. There wasn't a huge 'cake fridge' with all manner of cakes and desserts, I counted about 5 cakes that all looked pretty ordinary (sorry!) They did have a good selection of ice cream, but it didn't look like it was a popular item as you can tell when ice cream is fresh and a new tub swapped out every day, etc. Maybe I'm just being a bit too critical? Maybe I was supposed to sit down and order from the menu or something and they make it all from fresh? I don't know... I hope that's how it works anyway. I think going in with high expectations and then seeing, well... not a lot on display, that ruined the experience for me, so even if they brought out the best of the best cake in the World... Unfortunately, we were also subjected to the smoking. I do not drink coffee for medical reasons, and so settled for the hot chocolate. Here, it is a shame again, as most coffee shops, the "hot" is missing, and often I have to ask for extra hot if ever I go again. It was very well presented, but it also was quite powdery, so not the best hot chocolate that I have tasted. Perhaps, it does coffee better but I shall never know. The decor is nice, clean and relaxing and uncluttered with wooden tables. Friendly service. Closes at 6pm, and they starting packing up the outside tables and chairs around 5.50pm, which suited us, as we were just leaving! They also get another star for very nice and clean, modern and pleasant toilet facilities.

I find a lot of coffee places just don't really want you stay and they have hard, uncomfy furniture to reflect that. But not here! This place often has events that extend its opening hours, too. My favourite is the 'big comfy folk club' which are folk and acoustic sessions hosted on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Next one is on 4th March and tickets are only a fiver! Brilliant intimate venue, and the performers usually stick around for a while afterwards which is nice (: OH ALSO, WINE! The big comfy book shop serves alcohol! The owner spent over a year compiling books to open his shop, and ever since has kept a good variety of books that are unique to customers, or a popular search result of a used book. There is always fresh coffee, tea options, beer and wine, and some sort of snacks like crisps or cake for sale. Seating is available to hang out with friends for a little while or to start tucking into your future purchase. Also I noticed that live folk music nights and game nights regularly occur here too! It's family-friendly, is linked to the wonderful Coventry Transport Museum, and is excellent value for money. The manager used to run open mic nights in the evenings, which closed down for a while. It was so sweet and tasty that I had to force myself not to guzzle it down, and drink it slowly. I had to revisit the tea shop for another drink, because in my hometown we don't have any bubble tea shops like this one! On my second visit I had a bubble gum milkshake with blueberry bubble balls. This was my favorite drink. If I had more time in Coventry I would have returned again and again! I love the fun atmosphere of the shop with the bright colors! But because it's The Truth! They use the best ingredients, straight from manufacturers in Taiwan, which is where bubble tea originated from; everything certified by the EU and UK laws. Both Bubble Boba shops (Coventry & Cardiff) are an experience within themselves! From the really cool and fun decor, to the knowledgeable and friendly staff... I've never had a bad experience! Except maybe from the UK weather! The drink flavours are fun and unique, and many say taste "Just Like Home"! I've only been able to find Hokkaido Milk Tea in California, but Bubble Boba has it, along with Classic, Taro and other traditional flavours. Breakfast was quite satisfying: beans well cooked- creamy, not too sweet, nice portion; wilted spinach and grilled tomato was fresh and flavorful; hash browns were the best- thick, fried hard but not burnt, and fully cooked; mushrooms very flavorful but a little undercooked for my personal taste. Cappuccino was strong in coffee. Foam wasn't as smooth as I've had it elsewhere, but good strong coffee nonetheless. I'll come again during my next stay in Cov.
