HORRIBLE! They run "deals" where if your animal is a certain age then you get special promotions. However, they LIE about the age of the animal so you can't get it! They told us our cat was not a kitten so the deal did not apply. We went into it thinking we were paying $99, and they told us we owed them $500+ on the spot. It was so unprofessional. Despite the payment fiasco and dishonesty of the entire clinic (from the front desk to the vet), we also felt they were creepy. The vet even checked our cats anal glands WITHOUT gloves and did not wash his hands after. Super creepy. We have never been back. read more

Both Dr. Berryhill and Dr. Dixon have been great even when my pets haven't been the most cooperative patients. I also appreciate that the staff is down-to-earth and non-judgmental; they talk to you as a fellow pet-parent and often mention their experiences with their own pets. This is actually a zero star rating. Dr.Brett held my dog down and hit him on the nose repeatedly because he wouldn't sit still to get a shot. Absolutely zero positive reinforcement, just trying to correct my dog even though he did nothing wrong, was scared and wouldnt sit still when being held down. Dr. Brett screamed at my dog "bad boy!" The only time my dog has been this scared is around cats. To top it all off, after hitting him and putting a muzzle on him he made him wait in the cat area because he, as he said, "we don't know how he'll act around other dogs." I take my dog to the dog park twice a week, he loves other dogs and I told him that, but was completely ignored. My dog that is TERRIFIED of cats was put in the cat waiting area. I will never set foot in this place again. Dr. Brett is the last person I want around my animals. read more

Our outdoor cat was injured from another cat bite that caused pain and infection. This cat was a stray that we ended up adopting and on occasion, when she does get hurt, I never know where to take her because I don't know much about her veterinary history. I was referred to this vet by a friend, and couldn't have been happier with the service. They took her, treated her, ran basic tests on feline AIDS and leukemia, and we got her updated on all her vaccinations. I felt the health evaluation was appropriately priced, as she had a similar injury a few years back and I took her to the emergency vet in town and paid the same price, but the emergency vet did NOT include any vaccinations or testing for diseases. The vet was patient and explained the situation to me, which I appreciated. If she gets injured again I will be taking her back to see Dr. Brett. read more

The vets here are very helpful and do care. The reviews about price I think forget that caring for a pet can be very taxing on the wallet. I've learned in my many years of having pets that a lot of unexpected tests can pop up. I've also left my pets here for boarding and while it got kinda pricey because I have 4 pets and I left them for a week, I knew they were well taken care of. OVERPRICED The doctor and staff were very nice and informative. However, I believe this visit was unnecessary and extremely overpriced. This was a requested 6 month "check up" for my cat Smokey who had not previous issues/problems in the past. The check up, blood work, and fecal matter test was over $150, nail clip $12. I needed Advantage for her but they did not carry it. Instead, they use Revolution. The vet applied the Revolution to her neck/shoulder bone area. This medicine matted and bleached her fur. I am not happy with the product nor cost. I spent $350 for basically nothing. I want a refund on the Revolution read more

My dog started showing signs of being in pain after changing her behavior - she started using the bathroom in my closet at night and was definitely showing signs of being in pain/being ill (very timid, walking very slowly, very lathargic). I took her to Staring and explained what was happening. They told me that this is simply a behavioral issue and I have not disciplined my dog correctly. The Vet continued on in telling me how a dog understands discipline for about 10 mins...They charged me for a full wellness exam (over $150) and a probiotic to sprinkle on her food ($60) and sent me on my way. Two days later, I had to take my dog to emergency care because she was yelping in pain! Come to find out, her entire stomach lining and intestines were inflammed and irritated. The Vet at the emergency clinic knew immediately what was wrong. It took her over a week to get back to her normal self. I will not be returning to Staring Vet Plaza after this experience. read more

I called today because my vet is closed due to the corona virus and I'm desperately needing trifexis. I called and a receptionist picked up and sounded friendly at first I told her the deal with my vet being closed and there was no way to get my dogs medical records to this vet. She didn't even ask the vet or anything . During times like this I believe as a healthcare working I try to do anything and everything for my clients. Before we hung up the phone she stayed quiet for a minute and just hung up. No , "I'm sorry I couldn't help you. Have a nice day" just hung up . Please teach your employees phone manners. I read the reviews, I was skeptical but after taking my baby while visiting the area I had to write a review in efforts to help turn their rating around. The current yelp rating is not an accurate measurement of the service the staff and doctors here at Staring Plaza have. I was not even from the area and they made me feel comfortable and at ease with their knowledgeable staff and kind service. They really made me feel at ease. The staff is very kind and professional. The other day, I needed my pets medical records and they got back with me within the same day- I was impressed! My only complaint is that it is very expensive and they want your pet to have every vaccination possible, which is great, but 6 shots in one day that are each approx. $30 or more adds up and is hard on your pet. read more

So expensive!!!!! He runs all these tests on your pet and they are so expensive. Then the follow up appointment is expensive too. We went for a skin rash, and paid almost $400 and then it wasn't cured. A month later I had to go back and pay more money. Definitely overpriced. I just called the Clinic to find out if they took walk ins or if it was appointment only. The person on the phone said that YES, they do take walk ins but an appointment would be better. I described my dog's symptoms and she said that I definitely needed to bring them in. So...I said I'd like to come in this morning and was told that they could see me TOMORROW. Wow. As far as I know, Staring Plaza is one of the few places in town that sees reptiles. When my pet snake fell ill, Dr. Brett was able to see him the same day I called. After a somewhat grim diagnosis of an abscess in his mouth, Dr. Brett was able to schedule him for the surgery he needed for a couple days later, and after the surgery was a success, he provided me with all the necessary medication to get rid of the infection. The services were quite costly, but my baby was more than worth it. Both Dr. Brett and Dr. Mouton were very professional and very reassuring throughout the whole process of treating my snake (I know it was certainly an emotional roller coaster ride for myself and my family!), and were available to answer my questions whenever I called. My baby is now healthy and happy, all thanks to them! read more

The doctor at this veterinary center has treated multiple of my animals very well and i enjoy taking them here for any treatment. I wanted to post this review to let others know that they have hired a new groomer (June 2013). i brought my pup to the new groomer to give it a try. She did a less than mediocre job as far as grooming goes... there were still matted patches of hair behind her ears. it was a pricey groom for the results. Also, as i went to pick my dog up the groomer brought her to me and was extremely rude to me for not bringing a leash ( I was in a hurry that morning and could not find the leash, my dog is very tiny and had her collar on her.) I am not a supporter of giving my business to someone that will be rude to me and do a less than normal grooming job. read more

It's not true that they treat your pet like family. I brought my Kitty there because she had not been able to make poopy. First of all, they took my baby into the back to examine her while i completed the intake papers. When i went to the examination room, this really big guy was holding her in a most aggressive manner (My Kitty Was The Most Gentle You Would Ever Meet). The Dr, Diagnosed that she had cancer. I asked if there was anything he could do to at least make it possible for her to have a bowel movement. He said yes, they could give her an enema, but after that she would have tremendous movement, and so it would be better if I left her there because it would be very messy. Reluctantly, I left my baby in their care. When I came back to get her, she was almost completely covered in feces, and completely traumatized. The vet forgot to mention that the vaccinations he was giving my four month old puppy could possibly cause an allergic reaction (that would cause us to rush him to the hospital), which was weird because he made sure he didn't forget to charge us $13 for a nail trim (that you can get for no more than $9 anywhere else). However, it is not the ridiculously high prices that caused me to switch vets and write this review, it's the carelessness. My boyfriend and I were both at the appointment and neither of us remember the vet telling us that there was a chance our puppy could have a reaction to the vaccinations. When our puppy's face started swelling up, we immediately called Staring Vet Center's "emergency number" and were given an answering machine, so we hung up and drove to the nearest animal hospital. The hospital we went to was about to close and its vet had already gone home for the day; however, when we called her (the vet), she showed up within five minutes in her pajamas to take care of our puppy (care we would've expected from Staring Center). She took care of our puppy, calmed us down, and sent us home with care instructions AND an emergency number that, in the case she was unavailable, would automatically forward to a 24-hour animal hospital instead of an answering machine. When we went to Staring Vet Center today to see if they could help explain what went wrong, our vet spoke to us in a condescending manner (I'm assuming because he was embarrassed) and put the blame onto the company that the vaccinations came from. I don't think the reaction was the company's fault and I'm well aware there was no way of knowing our puppy would have a reaction prior to the vaccination, I'm upset that the vet failed to let us know of the possibility of a reaction, that the vet failed to let us who to call/where to go in case of an emergency (a number on an answering machine is insufficient; when I'm in a panic because my dog's eyes are swollen shut, I'm not around a pen/paper to write a number down and play telephone with the entire city of Baton Rouge), and that the vet failed to show any remorse or that he didn't seem to care at all about the health of our dog as much as he cared that our credit card went through. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take his/her animal here and if I could put less than one star on the review, I would. read more

Just moved to the area and drove to several Vet locations to get information in order to make an informed decision on where to take my dogs. The receptionist at Staring Plaza Vet Center went above and beyond to provide me with information, and the veterinarian, Dr Berryhill, even came out and greeted me. I made an appointment for the next day to have my dogs seen. The entire staff was very patient, knowledgeable and kind to both me and my dogs. Dr Berryhill was funny, super with my dogs and was very detailed in explaining to me what he was doing and what was needed for my dogs health. I was extremely satisfied with the overall care and treatment we received. The cost was very reasonable. They are wonderful and I would highly recommend this clinic. read more

I recently brought my dog to Staring Plaza after she suffered a bite by another dog. The head vet made personal phone calls for updates on my dog's status and even went in after hours to check on her overnight. I appreciate the care and attention she received and the details my vet gave me to make sure I was informed on my dog's progress after a serious injury. read more

It's never easy to lose a pet. He's part of the family, and greatly beloved. When we left to bring our son to college, we said goodbye to our pet, never realizing it would be the last time we saw him. My nephew was taking care of him, and that very day we left, he called to tell us something was very wrong with our dog. I told him to call our vets, and they told him to bring him in. After evaluating our dog, Dr. Brett called to tell me that a tumor had burst, and our dog was near death. After giving him the okay, he and several of the staff stood around our sweet fellow, petting him and loving on him, which being 5 hours away, we couldn't do, as he went to sleep for the last time. I wrote to the staff and thanked them for caring so much for our dog. I couldn't have asked for a more loving group of people to care for him. When we do get another pet, I wouldn't consider taking him to anyone else. read more

I have been reluctant to write this review. At first I was very pleased with the care and especially the staff. In North Louisiana we only had to do check-ups and shots once a year. Dr. Berryhill told me it was different down here. I knew all along that they were very expensive. It was my choice to continue having found a vet I liked. then in December, he recommended I have my Toy Fox Terrier's teeth cleaned due to bad breath. Was supposed to be $300 because he had to be sedated. When I picked him up the bill was huge. Dr. Berryhill had pulled 12 of Jake's teeth without telling me. If he had called me during the cleaning and told me what he found I'm sure I would have gone along with it. Since he didn't, he most certainly should have saved the teeth to show me why he made the decision. He did not. I did come back once more on a semi-emergency before I had found a new vet. But I will not be back and have found another vet for my Jake and Lovey the cat. read more
