My boyfriend gave me an immersion tank floatation session and a massage as a surprise, relaxing birthday gift. Upon arrival, the receptionist asked our name and immediately turned her back to us while she continued to talk. I asked her to repeat herself so we could hear what she was saying. She went on to hand me the stack of papers (which she clearly did not have ready for our arrival) and to tell me that I could not receive the flotation service if I had colored hair or used self-tanning products. I told her that I did both and that I doubt that my permanent hair color would be a problem. And BTW, I am so fair and had done so little self-tanning that you could not even tell by looking at me (I use Jergen's Daily Moisturizer that has a very mild, colorless self-tanning additive). But she didn't ask about that. She then proceeded to tell me that I would have to pay $1500 if my hair color stained their flotation tank. I told her that I would not sign anything that said I may have to pay $1500 to them if there was some kind of trouble with their tank. At this point, the conversation was really making me wonder how they ever get ANY female clients over 40 to purchase this service with those restrictions. About that time, another employee who I later learned had been there more than a year, came out and was introduced to me as the person who would get me ready for my services. I continued filling out my paperwork and mentioned that there is nothing in the paperwork about hair color, self-tanner or a $1500 fee. The experienced employee then said that the issue is more of a problem with temporary hair color and looked at me and said that I would not be a problem. So, I finished my paperwork and signed it. He then politely asked the receptionist if she wanted to take her lunch which she did and the experienced employee brought me back to the treatment area. And I just chalked up the pointless and stressful conversation to a bad reception hire. But the STRESS was not over! About 10 minutes after I was in the flotation room, there was a knock on the door and this receptionist who was supposed to be at lunch, said to me thru the door that the floating session had been cancelled and to get out. Who knows what she had said, but apparently, she didn't like that the experienced employee had looked at my permanent hair color and obvious low use of self-tanner and said that it would not be a problem and she went off somewhere else to call an off-site manager who the receptionist was now reporting had said to stop the service. Something is wrong over there. Either, they have a very poor setup where common personal products can cause a problem even though you shower BEFORE entering the flotation tank and they want their customers to incur the cost of their poor setup OR they didn't care to investigate the facts being provided by what appears to be an inexperienced employee who didn't agree with the experienced employee. Furthermore, even if a minute amount of self-tanner is a problem or permanent hair color is a problem, this receptionist could have offered another treatment for me to do at the same time. But she did not. I'm surprised that we have not received a call from management apologizing for this very poor experience. Whatever their problem, the net cost is that they lost a potential long-term customer and we were caused a lot of stress and to waste a good part of our day. So needless to say, I don't recommend this business.

Ambiance - of the waiting room and treatment room - relaxing. Parking - easy and free. Price - $150 is on the higher end given Grand Junction is not a big city (I've paid $155 in Orlando, FL and $159 in Miami for an initial session for example). The follow-up sessions are reasonably priced at half the price. Joseph was my acupuncturist. Polite and well traveled fellow. Excellent listener. Session - meh. Average. Nothing out of the ordinary. The initial consultation was more led by me than him. I was surprised he did not take my pulse until I was on the bed. He did not look at my tongue. The Yellow Emperor's Classic is a foundation TCM text. Tongue and pulse diagnoses are standard practice from what I've read and experienced. Red flag. Another big red flag is that this man practices homeopathy. Highly controversial. Many acupuncturists I've seen have warned me against it. Joseph even claimed that one session is like (10) years of therapy (which I highly doubt - it's not shamanic soul retrieval or inner child/shadow work). Joseph has a diversified healing background. I support that. However, I probably should've walked out after he told me this. As an Asian-American, I do find it unprofessional to ask about ethnicity on the first visit. I give him credit that he asked where I was from then asked about my parents. Most folks ask me, "Where I'm really from or originally from?" and keep pushing. That is called "Othering" and is a intentional or unintentional microaggression to nonwhite Americans. It is ultimately an alienating question. What caught me off guard is that he said I had an exotic look about me. I've never been told that. At first, I thought that was a compliment. Then I looked online with a bunch of Asian and Latina women claiming it is offensive/Othering. "What am I a piece of fruit?" "I am an American too." Again I didn't feel malice from him that I've felt in other parts of the country. Upon reflection, I think it was unintentional. It has to be mentioned as the USA is getting more diverse. The actual session was mediocre: I only received 30 minutes sleeping on the table where I am use to 45 minutes . Most acupuncturists do an hour 15 minutes from my experience. The bar I use for acupuncturists that can put me to sleep on the bed with their needles on the first session. I dozed in and out. I felt disoriented afterwards. That could be a good sign (detoxification). The real bar for me is if I sleep better the night of. I did not notice anything significant. This is important because Joseph himself told me about a breakthrough session where he slept for (30) hours after the session. I did appreciate the Chinese music. Surprisingly, not all acupuncturists use music. Checkout process - simple pay with a card and go. FYI there are several other acupuncturists at this site. I have only worked with Joseph.

The people are friendly. Honestly, it is a little hit-and miss with the therapists. Layla is amazing. She has a flowing massage style and is able to be both deep and gentle/relaxing. Mia is good too. Katie is very strong, often too strong and painful for me - but has almost no "flow", often leaves the table abruptly to deal with other front desk issues (I guess?). She has even taken calls on her cell phone during our appointment! It just feels very unprofessional and jarring for a massage. And it's very hard to communicate anything to them about this because of the language barrier. I just hope to get Layla or Mia when we go.
