My Sister raved about this Bar great Cocktails ,live music, great atmosphere…read more Well I did not find any of these here, as we were entering the Bar some people were leaving and commented to us that we should turn around as it was not worth staying. My Neice had reserved a table and paid a £5.00 deposit for each of us when we arrived our table had been given to another party with the proviso that when we arrived they would vacate it but they had just bought a round of drinks it would be rude to oust people. We got another smaller booth and ordered some drinks, my Sister does not drink alcohol so asked for a Mocktail list, the Server told us that they do not have a Mocktail list but do any Cocktail without alcohol. We had ordered Ruby Ruby Ruby, it had Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger Gin, Rhubarb bitters & Victorian Lemonade over crushed ice, my Siste was handed a bottle of Victorian Lemonade no crushed ice no Rhubarb bitters that was our last drink there. On top of the fact no live music lots of Hen Parties shrieking in a very small place sorry Jam Jar you are not for me.

It is next door to the True Pizza Company (same owners) and we went there for dinner first. Dundee is my home town and having not lived here for a few years, I was really pleased to see such a cool cosmopolitan place that Dundee has been crying out for. Table service makes it that wee bit special and the events manager asked us for feedback to see what we liked and wanted. They had a live band playing upstairs and they were really fantastic. The cocktail menu was really original and each time our drinks were brought to the table, there were squeaks of delight. Highly recommend this place.

The beer wasn't uber expensive.... £2.50 for a pint of Miller (which usually runs a bit more expensive over in the UK since it is imported) and a pint of Guinness was £2.60 so really not that bad. The place looked a bit like an older pub then a new refurbed bar but I liked it like that... and it was the right place to go to have a beer and a chat with my friends before catching the bus home.

The thing that drew us in was the fact that we could hear Harry Belafonte's Banana Boat Song (Day-O) paying and the whole pub singing along- (think the best scene in Beetlejuice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQXVHITd1N4) Noticing it was an older crowd, we kept walking but soon realised that's exactly where we wanted to be, so we circled back and went in. It was kinda like in the movies where you walk in to a bar in a new town and the record skips and everyone looks at you wondering what you're doing in there. Kinda like that, but the silence didn't last forever and the music kept playing and basically we were one of the locals in a few short seconds. This place is great! I loved that there was a crowd around the jukebox and a lot of old songs were being played. Not a single one I didn't know, but not a single one the ones playing the music didn't know either. The bar staff were younger than us, which was quite comical, since almost everyone in this pub were pensioners it seemed. No bother, they were nice and helpful and got everyone's orders out at great speeds. The drinks went down smoothly and we really enjoyed ourselves until a lady walking past our drinks knocked both over, acknowledged she did so and went about her business without even a sorry. That was the end of our night, but didn't put a damper on our mood from being in Pillar's Bar!

DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE IF YOU CAN HELP IT!! If i could give 0 stars I would!! We visited "Klozet"…read moreactually "Kandy" this weekend and were disgusted by the staff and even the customers. The staff serve who they want when they want and will let queues build up so that they can serve, what I assume are their friends, 1st before anyone else. The staff are cheeky to customers and the barstaff don't seem to care about anything but serving themselves drinks 1st, while they sit in the corner getting drunk!! As for there "zero tolerance" policy - well they might want to check the toilets more often because both me and my friend walked into the separate toilets a couple of times to find guys and girls snorting and taking pills which left us feeling quite vulnerable! I can see why the keep changing their name I can only assume its down to all the 1 star reviews they get. This place is a dive, if you want somewhere gay friendly in Dundee try Rewind or Pout instead, give Klozet/Kandy a definate swerve!!

While it happened, another of our friends called over a bouncer and they came over but my friend was rushed out as she was crying and in pain and in no state to talk to anyone. When I spoke to manager, he said there was nothing he could do unless she was here to identify the assaulter. So we came back not even half an hour after the incident occurred , but because she could not see her in the bar, we were told to come back the next day to look at CCTV. We did this (my friend now sporting bruises on her face) and were told that we should have dealt with it last night and there was nothing they could do as the CCTV wouldn't identify her. However, bouncers as well as a bar staff member admitted to seeing her but somehow they couldn't identify her? We understand this is a tricky situation, honestly didn't think they'd be able to do much, but we were treated awfully and the managers were rude and condescending and didn't apologise once and contradicted themselves in their advice to us last night and this morning. They even accused my friend of fighting back which she was in state to do as it wasn't a fight, it was 4 people punching her. The manager explained that they had a zero tolerance policy in the same sentence as saying they wouldn't do anything about it. This is meant to be a zero tolerance and safe space for people to go and instead my friend was the victim of a hate crime that a gay bar has let slide. Wouldn't reccomend going.
