For years I had subscribed to the Statesman Journal. While not much of a paper, they were the only show in town. After numerous none deliveries, and late deliveries, enough was enough. What amazed me was after the number of years I was with them, no one contacted me after I canceled the paper to see why I did so. I had tried to get ahold of a live person, and just gave up in frustration. Recently they have sent out a post card trying to get me to resubscribe. I went to their website and had some questions for their "Chat" section. After a few entries with the unk person on the other end, they hung up on me. The Statesman Journal is typical of so many businesses with poor customer service. This may be one of many reasons why the print media is going away. It's too bad, I use to have so many good memories of reading the newspaper. read more

WARNING: If you get a subscription get a lawyer on retainer! I cannot begin to tell you, as other reviews have, how next to impossible it is to cancel a subscription to the Statesman Urinal. My 82 year old father, 92 year old mother in law and myself plus countless others as you can clearly ascertain. Call and they will say it's cancelled. Send you yet another bill, call again, another bill, send you to collections, get the run around. Horrendous non existent customer service. Extort the elderly and keep sending past due subscription notices to keep up the circulation! Seems to be the only way they can seem to keep subscribers is by scamming them and not canceling subscriptions when notified to do so. What else should I expect from a third rate periodical. The onion has better journalism and service. read more

Customer Service is horrible. I had to wait on hold for an extremely long time, finally gave up and selected the call back option. They did call me back in the allotted time but the Representative was extremely rude and condescending. At a time when "paper subscriptions" are at a low, your customer service is doing nothing to gain you customers. I was just going to modify my subscription but after talking to your Rep I elected to cancel completely. Your "lack" of customer service just cost you a customer!! read more

The 5 stars is for the person who delivers our paper, not the paper itself. Russell Costello is the best delivery person one could ever have. He never misses a delivery and the paper is there when I come out to get it early, each and every morning. He walks the paper up our long sidewalk and steps, and places the paper right by the threshold of our front door. He is very communicative with his customers, providing us with his contact information should we ever have any questions or concerns. Delivering newspapers is a difficult job, getting up early, dealing with the weather, and the whiners who go nuts if they somehow don't get there paper a couple times a year. In this day and age, Russell is a treasure and should never be taken for granted. Russell, thank you!! read more

BEWARE. I joined the newspaper subscription 1 month ago and they have continually increased their prices on a weekly basis. I called the customer service line to cancel my subscription and the First Lady that answered hung up on me after I was waiting on the phone for 30 minutes. Then, I call again waited another 30 and spoke to a gentleman who said he canceled my subscription but instead he illegally signed me up for their email newsletter and once again did not cancel my subscription. They are thieves BEWARE. read more

Do not ever subscribe to this paper. Worst service and they don't even deliver it if you order delivery. After not delivering the paper, they won't issue a refund. They keep you on hold forever if you call them. Not worth the pain. And it is a bad paper with little content. If they aren't going out of business, they should be soon. read more

The delivery of this paper was not consistent enough for me to continue paying for it. After I moved I thought I'd give it another try but the service was the same. The ads on the online paper really make this paper less than a pleasant experience. read more

Unbelievable! We get The Statesman Journal delivered to our home. For 3 days straight it arrived after 8 a.m. The next day it didn't arrive at all, then on Sunday late again after 9 a.m. The paper should arrive by 7 a.m. The credit for not receiving one issue of the newspaper is 24 cents. Twenty-four cents of one issue. Last year the cost of the newspaper went gone up by $6. This year it went up by $2. Both times without ANY notice whatsoever. I tried to cancel my subscription online today. That option wasn't available. Why not? Consequently, I called and encountered a user-unfriendly phone tree that didn't list cancellation as an option. After 20 minutes, I finally reached a human, Sierra, who took my cancellation request. I would have thought twice about subscribing in the first place if I'd known it would take more than a mouse click to cancel. read more

I attended the Salem coupon class and signed up for the Sunday and Wednesday papers. There was a lot of hype about how great this paper is, trouble is, I subscribed and never got a single paper. Very disappointing. If you don't mind subscribing to something and never getting it then this is definitely the paper for you read more

I also went to the couponing class they have a great offer for statesman so I jumped at it. Been getting it for about 6 months 4 papers Wednesday & Sunday only received the correct amount maybe 1/2 the time. The best part u call to complain they say they will be out with in the hour SHOCKER they never come. Just a waste of money!! read more

Don't ever subscribe. They will make it impossible for you to cancel your subscription. I have been trying to cancel my subscription since August and have spent a lot of time on the phone and I still don't know if it is canceled. I was assured that my subscription was canceled and then I got another bill. I never received my paper on time and I often didn't receive it. The paper itself is of questionable quality but the service is horrible. I regret the day I ever subscribed. read more

I wish there were zero stars, as that's what I'd give The Statesman. First off, their views are very skewed and opinions one sided. The worst journalism I've ever come across, (if that's what you could even call it). But more importantly, they blew off the most basic principle of any business, the delivery of service...literally. In December they missed 8 papers and we stopped 2 weeks worth because we were out of town. Yet no credit even though we reported all of this on line, (every time we tried to call the wait was at least 20 mins.) Please note that prior to this they averaged missing 2-3 papers/month, we just didn't report it. January was even worse, missing 9 papers. Again, we recorded it on their website, but when the bill came once again it was not deducted. Following this, we contacted our credit card company to report it and file a claim. Experiencing the same result we had, the credit card was unable to reach them to resolve the matter and withheld payment for all the days they failed to deliver or were on vacation. The sporadic delivery has continued and just recently we have stopped getting it all together. It amazes me that it's impossible to get hold of them when they fail to fulfill their obligation, but how quickly they can react when you stop payment on the same failures. This simply is the worst run business I've ever seen. read more

terrible service ...after canceling my paper 2 yrs ago because it was never delivered ...i thought of trying digital ...no more.. not only has it been down 50% of time no one at statesman journal can tell you whats going on or when it will be repaired ...finally after 15 min on phone and to a supervisor ...she said "were having promblems and dont know when it will be up and running ...after 2 weeks of on and off working i asked for a full refund and she stated "with digital its a no refund policy "BUYER BEWARE in this day in age of newspapers try to survive ...these people suck ...i hope the statesman journal shuts down because they just suck at service ..so off to the portland paper i go ...next time they whine that ciculation has declined we know it from poor service ...not the public read more

Our subscriptions were ended abruptly even though I had emailed 6 people at the Statesman on 2 dates to get the correct amount to pay for August. I make payments on my mother's and my account through online bill pay. In November a payment for my mother's account was applied to our account even though it had her subscription number on the check. After months of trying to get the account straightened out the subscriptions were abruptly ended. I was notified on 8/4/14 that both accounts were cancelled as of that date and the only way to subscribe was to do their EZPay option, we couldn't have a printed statement. I have subscribed for about 40 years and my mother has been a subscriber for at least 60 years. Our account wasn't overdue, it was paid through 8/3/14 but I couldn't make the payment for August because the 6 employees (including the publisher, marketing manager, customer service representative and others) at the Statesman didn't answer my emails from 7/25 & 7/31 requesting the amount owed and to have someone contact me to straighten out the accounts. read more
