Felison Terminal - Norwegian Sky at Felison Cruise Terminal

It's a small cruise terminal in a city called IJmuiden. I'd say it's about a 35 minute drive to the…read morecenter of Amsterdam. It initially doesn't look like much when you first arrive to this port. There are vendors inside selling souvenirs and Dutch products. The tour buses are easy to find in the parking lot. The whole process of getting from the ship to the terminal was smooth and seamless. Everyone was friendly and helpful. For those not taking shore excursions, there's a walking trail known as the "Bunker Walking Route" that will lead you to all kinds of WWII era German bunkers. It runs along what used to be the fortified Atlantic Wall. There's even a Bunker Museum nearby that gives the history of the German fort (Festung IJmuiden) that was built after they destroyed most of IJmuiden. There's also a beach nearby. You'll see all the rows of tiny wooden beach huts along Kleine Strand as you cruise into the port. It didn't look so pleasant on a cold & windy spring morning, but I can see it being a nice summer destination for those who love the beach. The natural beauty of the beaches here are pretty much preserved. It does give off an heir of being desolate, which is kind of nice for those who want to get away from city life. It's a good starting point for shore excursions. We decided to take a tour of the polders to the north of Amsterdam. It was everything we wanted in a cultural tour. The return to this terminal was just as easy as when we arrived. I hope to visit again in the future.

Pretty basic. Just about no facilities. If you you need to eat do it before you get there and wait…read moreand wait to board the ferry.

This is a classic station bordering on "historic" for the area. Constantly fighting the elements of…read morethe North Sea, it was recently renovated in the back. New steps. The toilets are paid and not electronic. They tend to take your euros and the door still doesn't open, so be careful. There are some historic photos and murals on the walls. It's worth a trip from Amsterdam if visiting (All of Zandvoort that is). The train station is one reason I love Amsterdam so much, an easy 30 minute ride out to the ocean! From city to sand in 30 minutes for 3-5 euros. Love it. It gets REALLY REALLY crowded on hot days so be prepared. Not sure how they will handle it post-Covid. Trains are reduced capacity and I don't want to sit in a crowded, hot train with no ventilation with a bunch of strangers. Masks are required of course. I have never really seen any attendants working upstairs, inside, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. I usually don't walk through the main building, but take the stairs on the left. They have an OV Fiets (bike rental) on site. It's that little glass house and you need your OV card to get into the house and then work the kiosk. You will need to know some Dutch to work these kiosks. It's the only game in town in Zandvoort as far as the trains are concerned so either use it or take a bike or car back to Amsterdam or Haarlem. The building itself is a nice old train station building that I think is disappointingly under used. Sometimes the building is not even open and you have to walk up the side steps and the last time I was inside, the store space was under utilized. It is a shame because it really is a nice old building.
