My wife and I were in town for the Mac N' Cheese festival and choose Staybridge because of the location, price, prior reviews by others, and the free breakfast. The one star reduction is for the front desk associate who checked us in. We asked if there were any nature trails close by and his response was, 'Your guess is as good as mine". I asked him if that's because he was new in town and he responded, "No, I have 2 kids, I don't have time to get out". Not a harsh message but the tone wasn't great. It's also due to the low water pressure in the showers, it left something to be desired. The suite met our expectation. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. While we didn't use the kitchenette, it was stocked with everything one would need to make a meal. We slept comfortably and it was quiet. The breakfast was fantastic. There was plenty to choose from. Options include yogurt, fruit, waffles, eggs, sausage and gravy, and biscuits.

Well to start I am a Platinum member which usually comes with a few perks. I called 3 days before my stay to ask that they put a request in for ground floor room. They assured me the request was in. I get to the hotel after 6 and I am told not only did I not get a ground floor room but I am on 3rd floor . It's late so I take it, I walk into the room and it's about 95 degrees and stinks like sewage . I go to turn on the air and NOTHING. I call to the desk the guy at the desk says he'll be up shortly to show me how to adjust it. Mind you I stay at Staybridge suites every week! After 45 min I call back down because no one came up. When he picks up he says he forgot about me and would be right up. He shows up and starts to mess with it on the wall. I then notice the unit is gutted out down below. Someone clearly was tearing apart the air and the room wasn't taken out of service. He says, "I'll bring you a tan but it will take me a while". Ummmmm NO I said you can move me to another room. He says, "we are sold out and there is t another room". I said well check me out I will move hotels. The hotel was filthy! Stunk like sewage in the halls and downstairs . I will attach pics of the air conditioning unit. I moved to the Holiday inn and it is BEAUTIFUL! Cheaper than the Staybridge and free breakfast and rooms have micro/fridge combo.

Oh, but it's never been busy when I've gone. Background music was playing, and yes you can get a view of the city, but there's a lot of cranes and building going on now, and you're only really 7 stories up. I wish they'd move the smoking section (or get rid of it altogether) since you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get to the bathrooms...

The fact that you can't see it's layout from the ground floor lends to the allure. All this is to say that I created a legend in my head that sadly wasn't true. Skydeck was interesting, fun for a night, and not much more. Perhaps it's for this reason that I gave it an average rating. But I also think that there were a few flaws regarding the space and I'll lay them out here. First and foremost, you pay a premium to be in this space, both in the form of a cover ($10, nothing insane) and an apparent tariff on the drinks (maybe it's handling fees for hauling it all up so high?). Either way, you should expect to be a bit gouged for cash. Not all of the drinks are insane, but mixed drinks are pricey, and some of their "signature" drinks top $12. Now, initially, this might seem like a fair trade: a bit extra for high quality drinks and a higher quality view. But here's the rub: it's a small space, it's packed, and the edge seats go first. For me and my group to enjoy the breathtaking view of Kalamazoo, we would have to stand or share tables. It's difficult to blame them for being popular. That being said, I don't really feel like we received the main feature of the venue. A friend of mine put it sagely: it's a great date spot, or celebration, but you don't go their to drink. You go there for the experience. Therefore, this won't become one of my "regular spots." Here are some positives to end on: -Amazing view of the city -Great ambiance, especially at night -Wonderful service -Elevator!

The menu states there's a buffet but there was not. Two members of my team ordered steak and eggs and waited an hour before they got served. One asked for decaf and was told it wasn't going to happen after waiting 30 min. Rooms were okay, we had 5 rooms total, 3 on the 4th floor, 1 on the 3rd and 1 on the 2nd. All of them were different. Pool hours posted said 8am to 10pm, but when we were using it, the female bartender came out and asked us to finish up at 9:55 stating the pool closed at 9 and they were turning the lights off. I can understand having shorter hours than other hotels because some of the lower floor rooms look out onto the pool area. Work out space had more machines than most. Conference center is across the parking lot. Bathrooms needed attending to more than they were. Microphone mishaps during most of the sessions I was in.

It's not a huge museum, but I loved the Kyungmi Shin: A Story to Finding Us exhibit (through May 12, 2024). The artworks were stunning and I loved trying to find hidden images in each. The other main exhibit was American Realism: Visions of America, 1900-1950, which didn't resonate with me personally as much, but it was still interesting to see. The permanent collection downstairs was nice - I especially liked the Tiffany lamps and jewelry. There is a Chihuly sculpture hanging in the entryway, which is really cool to see. The gift shop is nicely curated with lots of great books, gifts, and more. Nate got a cute little cat shaped ceramic chopstick rest!
