Took the train from Verona to Pisa, which was quite a trek ... but the views as we went through Genoa to Pisa were beautiful. The Trenitalia was smooth, had a little cart with food and coffee came through twice, air conditioned and outlets to charge your devices. The seating is assigned, I would say only comfortable for an hour or two (gets really cramped after that time), fold out tables. Luggage either goes behind the chairs or overhead. I would highly advise to not board without a train ticket. The staff checked our tickets 3 times during the duration of our trip. Found the train to be a bit too noisy, they should have a sign to be courteous to others on board. Trains were pretty spot on for Arrival/Departure times. Be sure to validate your ticket at the little green machines before boarding the train.
As for the station, it's fairly large in comparison to the city and easy to navigate. Since we arrived around 10:30PM, you do see some sketchy people hanging around the benches or in front of the station. Just be aware and mindful of your belongings. Also, be on the lookout for people hanging around the ticket machines asking if you need help or need change as they are looking for tip, but are not station staff or being "nice". The bus station is right out front. Station is about 30 min, walking to City Centre where the leaning tower of Pisa is. You could take a bus, bike or walk- all methods work! read more
