Review Visit: March 14th, 2016 What do you think I ordered at Steak & Fries? If you guess some steak with a side of fries, you'd be incorrect. What did I order on this sunny spring day? I honestly don't remember. Between looking at my photos and looking at the website/online menu, I can usually guess what I order. Not this time. Let's take a journey as I try to remember. Based on the photo below, it appears that one of the things I ordered was a BLT but its on a hotdog bun. Yup, I am not making that up. That's exactly what it looks like. The other item I ordered was another BLT maybe with chicken instead of bacon? A CLT also on a hotdog bun. Weird. I couldn't even begin to guess what the other stuff on the menu would look like once served. Tacos on a hamburger bun? Pizza topped with ice cream? Who knows! The restaurant is located in CampusTown in Peoria. This area is full of eager college freshmen dodging traffic, the worst intersection in history and a ton of local restaurants. CampusTown specifically has a countless number of places to eat and Steak & Fries is one of them. The name is generic, the food is served in non-traditional ways and the taste was... pretty good. That I do remember. My girlfriend and I were taken back by the unusual way food was presented and then we were taken back by how good it was despite the oddity of it all. You can see on their website that our unique experience isn't so unique and is just who they are. If you know me, I am a fan of oddities. I've done some strange stuff over my lifetime and tries even stranger things. Nothing illegal. Just going against the grain to try old things in new ways and new things in old ways. So, I have a small soft spot for this visit as it was definitely one to reflect on and laugh about. I've kind of gone off my normal trail with this post. You'll need to get the cumber sauce with your Gyro. Otherwise it's a little dry. Taste good. Portion was ok. The Fries were delicious, if you're watching your sodium intake, there are salty. read more

Man I miss this place so much. If you can extend greasy spoons to places other than dinners and late-night places serving breakfast then this is my favorite. I seriously ate here about once a week when I was in college. Always the grilled garlic chicken sub with Swiss cheese and double meat. I love their garlic sauce, I put it on everything I ate there. Fries are good too, thick cut with the skin on, similar to a Boardwalk Fries or Thrashers (if you know Ocean City, MD at all). The cheese steaks are decent but I'm not normally eating these as I have been spoiled by the original wonder of a "wiz witout" at Pat's in Philly. I ate there so much in college that when I came back for Alumni Weekend a year and a half later the guy still new what my "usual" was. Awesome. read more

A co-worker really talked this place up and I think I went in with too high expectations. The Philly Cheesesteak was alright, but I am always disappointed with cheesesteaks that used sliced cheese instead of cheese whiz. I have no allegiance to Philadelphia but I do not think restaurants should be able to call their cheesesteaks Philly's if they used sliced cheese. Way too much lettuce on the sandwich. This place is a Bradley University staple. All food here is made to order. So expect to wait a few minutes, but it's well worth it. The sandwiches are great and loaded. I've had the steak supreme, chicken supreme, philly steak, philly chicken, and many others. Bottom line, they're all good; you can't go wrong. And the fries...always so fresh and amazing. The prices aren't too bad, and they're a little cheaper if you're a Bradley student. They have many sauces available for your sandwiches and fries. And there are free refills, you just gotta ask! This place is run by a family that is always working hard behind the counter. I recommend this place. Second time here and both times the food was great. At first glance this place resembles a dive. But that slowly melts away once you try the food. The sandwiches are great and the fries even better. The mushrooms and cheese on the sandwiches are the best part. Service is quick and abrupt. The staff are not overly friendly, and you get the feeling they all hate each other even though none of them say a word. Tables are clean and the decor is very basic. White walls and tables. Only decoration is the 100% Food Inspection results they proudly advertise on the wall. At lunch time there is a constant queue of customers waiting for that Philly steak sandwich, which lends to this establishment's popularity. I love this place for the food and the charm. I love steak & fries! Their place is a tiny little joint in Campus Town so we always order our food for take out. Their fries are homemade, crunchy, and delicious, and their steak sandwhiches are purfect--just right in terms of flavor in my opnion. That's all I've ever had there, but I loved it! read more

I like it here. The main thing I get here are fries and the Philly Cheese Steak. I just wish they were a bit more consistent. I've gone here about 5-6 already this year and one sandwich I got was salty, one didn't have enough meat, but the other times I've come here, it was fine. Fries are great. Pretty freaking good, very friendly staff, and amazing food. I went basic white girl status and got the 12inch philly, and cheese fries, highly recommend will definitely eat again when i am back in town. But on a side note come up with a better name, they are to good to have such a forgettable name, and was a tad bit pricey for what it was,(fancy subway). read more

Ordered the food and we were all happy until we got our food and there ended up being Loonnnnnnngggg hair in the food! Made the whole table not wanna eat anymore. This is the second steak and shake within two hours and both were complete shit. Dirty, wayy understafft, and tables are all sticky. Funny thing is there are 3 tables full and they cant even keep up with it. Stake and shake is on the bad list now. Customer left his phone on accident and staff looked for it but said they didnt see it.
