Years ago, the Grable Foundation donated a DinoMite Days dinosaur for the teachers and students at Phillips Elementary School to decorate. The teachers and students created colorful alphabet letters and applied them to the dinosaur. This decorating was intended to support children's learning of language. This dinosaur is free for everyone to see, touch, and photograph. If you happen to be in the Oakland neighborhood for other activities, then I recommend that you quickly stop by to see Alphabetosaurus. Tip: Another dinosaur sculpture, Dippy, a Diplodocus, is located a short walk across the street, and his decorations change throughout the seasons.

There is a decent amount of space inside with options ranging from couches to low tables and high tables which is nice. The bartender was welcoming. There was several tables of customers without it being overly busy. I decided to order a flight and was glad they didn't exclude the barrel aged. I got the Panda's Choice (Belgian Triple) and then the Panda's Choice aged in Tokaji barrels so I could compare them side by side. I had never had a beer aged in or even had Tokaji (a Hungarian dessert wine) so I was intrigued. It gave the Belgian a complex taste and made it very unique. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first but also kept going back for me. I also brought some home which will be great to share with friends. Also in the flight I got a Belgian Quad and a Chai winter ale. Both were tasty. Overall it was a great flight and I would drink all of the beers again. It's great to have a Pittsburgh brewery putting out Belgian style beers.

Although some also say it is from the strip mills that were once in the area. Regardless of how it got its name, it is a wonderful place that anyone spending time in Pittsburgh should visit! There are restaurants of every variety. Polish, Vietnamese, seafood, Italian and the original Primanti Brothers location! There is a winery, butcher shop, places to buy kitchen items, a spice store, tons of Pittsburgh themed sports and souvenir shops. Candy stores, Pittsburgh popcorn. Maybe the most known entity is Wholey's Market with their amazing selection of fresh seafood. The strip is always busy during the day, especially on Saturday and Sunday. It is a little less crazy in the evenings because a lot of the retail stores are only open until 5, but there are still plenty of great spots to grab a bite. It is easily walkable and there are a wide variety of parking options (a municipal garage near one end, surface lots, metered spots and some businesses (like Wholey's) have their own lots. What is great is that anyone can enjoy the Strip District. You can enjoy time with your family, wander on your own, have a girls day our or have a date day. So many fun things to choose from. Definitely one of the top Pittsburgh "things to do"

I thought seeing a bunch of plants might be fun but I wasn't expecting it to be such a wonderful experience! The place is quite large considering most of it is inside. It is organized for a few different environments and a little something for everyone depending on what your floral preferences might be. It took us about an hour and a half to go through the whole thing. Got a lot of pictures. Saw a lot of interesting and cool plants as well as beautiful flowers. Highly recommend this as a stop on any and every Pittsburgh trip.

i visited the carnegie museums of art and natural history on a weekday and had a wonderful…read moreexperience overall. the collection is absolutely massive and it was so much fun to walk through every exhibit. plus, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. if you are driving, there is on-site parking available, but it was relatively full even for a weekday so i had to drive down a few levels to find a spot. the "cards only" sign at the gate is a bit confusing because the machines at the exit actually do accept apple pay! if you want to pay before you get back to your car, there is also a booth inside the museum near the entrance and bathrooms with machines that take apple pay too. the only minor downsides were that many of the hand sanitizer dispensers and toilet seat covers were empty during my visit. despite those small details, i had a great time and would definitely recommend a visit!

I love that he is almost always wearing a scarf and it changes seasonally. I've seen Dippy with a Steelers scarf, a Valentine's Heart scarf and a St. Patrick's Day Scarf. My kids love guessing what kind of scarf Dippy might have when we drive through Oakland.

I decided to create a separate Yelp page for Dippy because Yelp allows pages for public art, and because unlike the museum that requires an entry fee, Dippy is free for everybody to see. In 1999, Dippy was constructed from fiberglass. He was built as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Diplodocus fossils in Wyoming. The original fossil is on display inside the museum. Dippy is life-sized at 22 feet tall, 84 feet long, and 3,000 pounds in weight. When I walk or drive past the museum, I enjoy seeing how the employees decorated Dippy. Most recently, he was wearing a scarf for the cold weather.

We could not take pictures inside but I was able to capture the exterior. This is great place to visit and learn about the Clayton family that was instrumental in business in Pittsburgh. The tour is terrific and our guide did a good job with all the details. They have a solid gift shop and the grounds are pretty. They also have a greenhouse on site.
