I work in Yellowknife, NWT, but I am originally from Kelowna, BC, Canada. It gets moderately cold in BC but it gets WICKED cold in Yellowknife! When I first started working in this town I couldn't understand why everyone was wearing these white and brown boots. I thought you could get them in town, I looked and I looked but to no avail. So I asked a girl wearing them on the street what they're called, where she got them and how much they cost. She said they were the warmest boots she's ever owned and worn, and they were worth every penny. I just couldn't believe it! So I ordered me a pair of the brown Quetico talls.... I cannot explain how amazing these handmade beauties are. They blow uggs, softmoc, Minnetonka, you name it, right out of the water. I could run around naked with just these boots on and I'd be dancing like I'm in Mexico. THEY'RE AMAZING!!!!! You won't be disappointed. Money well spent! I am thinking of buying two more pairs. Mukluks - warm, light, warm, comfortable, warm, semi-waterproof, quiet, warm, hand made in MN. Did I mention warm? Bought a pair at a "garage sale" at the store in Ely - they were about half-price for a pair of seconds. There was a small blemish on the toe, but it doesn't effect their looks nor their use. Perfect for still-hunting for deer. Perfect for sitting in the deer stand for hours at 5 below. Perfect for blowing snow from the driveway. Perfect to pull on for walking the dogs around the neighborhood. Perfect for apre'-ski boots. Perfect for dancing (Ely's Mukluk Ball in February), perfect for just about anything except slogging through wet swamps, since the moose hide muks are not waterproof. There is a new model that Steger says is waterproof. Mine are only five years old, and should last another decade or two. Needed new wool liners this year, but those are real inexpensive and you can find them anywhere. BEST winter boots I have ever had, by far! read more

moose, made of nordic moose, it's a 0% waste leather as the laws in scandinavian countries are better than ours. when i got my tall full leather boots from steger i felt like i was made for minnesota, finally!!!! they keep me warm and i find them to be so comfortable! keep acids, like gas (the soft rubber sole is not acid resistant) and salt off (de-salter for those white lines you get from minneapolis streets) of them and they will last for years. my boyfriend has had his for 6 years and he won't wear anything else in the winter. read more

To Caitlin N Patti Steger here. Thought you should know he was not zoomin' you. The boots are made from moosehide, but from Scandinavia. Eurasian elk (Europe) (Alces alces). They call them Ele. Look up Scandinavian Moose. Wikipedia will show you the map of Europe where these are found. The hunting regulations are very strict. The herds are well managed. I live in Alaska and I own three pairs of Steger Mukluks. That should tell you how awesome these boots are! I've got one pair of Arctics for the woods and two short pairs (one chestnut, one black) for around town and dressier stuff. In Alaska snow boots are accepted for everything up to black tie formal. There is not any other boot that is as warm or as comfortable as these. It's just a shame when I have to tuck them away for the summer. So now I think I need some moccasins!!! read more

I LOVE my mukluks!!!!! I have had them for years now and wouldn't wear any other boot! They are so warm and soft. They are so easy to wear and feel like you are walking on pillows. I even wore them when I was ice fishing and the snow was melting. There was a lot of water and my feet stayed completely dry. I'm trying to talk my husband into getting a pair. They are spendy but they are worth it! read more

After putting a larger insole inside the shoe, which pokes the front out a little, the boots seemed to be ok, before when I walked my big toe would slip off the front of the insole, still wished they were sized more consistent with other types of shoes read more

Steger Mukluks are the best. After clomping around in heavy, stiff, nasty Sorels for years, a friend talked me into getting Steger Mukluks. I love them! I spent much of the winter in the woods in northern Wisconsin, and they're worth every penny. read more
