My son (age 46) and I (age 75) visited Aikens Lake Wilderness Lodge for the second time this past…read moreweek. This is my 33rd fishing trip to Manitoba and 18th lodge visited. We were the first group in for this season. Other than being very cold and rainy it was a great trip. Nothing has changed since our first visit in 2019. In my opinion this is the best overall lodge in Manitoba. There are so many different ways that this lodge is superior to others but let me try and highlight a few. Let's start with the booking process. Pit, the owner and General Manager, appears to sit at his computer 24 hours a day. When you contact him, you get an almost immediate response. His communication is clear and to the point. When you book you get a provisional slot hold until you make your deposit. You can send in a check or use a credit card. Once you book his wife, Julie, takes over and contacts you about any special requests you may have. If you have any special dietary requests, booze orders or the like she makes sure it happens. Next are the lodge facilities. The cabins are immaculate and appear brand new. Ours had two bedrooms each with a mini split heater and AC and a living room with a fireplace. There was also a screened in porch. A short walk to the main lodge itself which houses the dining room and "Big Mollys Bar". The bar is unusual in that it includes a happy hour before dinner where the drinks are free. At most lodges I have fished the groups tend to keep to themselves. One impact of the happy hour is that most groups become very friendly. Secret spots and lures are shared freely and you make new friends. We have already made contact we people we met at the lodge and are making plans to met again next year. On to the food. Most lodges have a fixed breakfast. At Aikens you can order whatever you want for breakfast. I had asked Julie to have some hot peppers for my omelet and they sure were hot! The shore lunches were also unique. The lodge has prepared several sites throughout the lake with picnic benches, metal roofing to protect from the rain, propane cook tops and chopped wood for the open firs. This not only keeps you dry and comfortable but dramatically reduced the food preparation and cooking time. The lunches themselves are not just the old fried fish but included different variety of batters and baked fish. Dinner at the lodge was also special every night. Julie cooked for us a few nights and she is the best chef in Canada. One night we had a pork chop that must have been 2 inched thick but was still moist and tender. Steak night riveled any steak house in Winnipeg, The staff were also exceptional. Pit, Julie and Patrick are all co-owners and unlike many other lodges are on site. This ensures that if any issues arise, they are dealt with quickly and properly, They have hired a great group of young ladies to work the dining room and cabins. They are friendly and hard working. The guides are also good. They tend to hire young men in college who work there for4 to 6 years so you always have an experienced guide who knows the lake in your group. The newer ones receive formal training from Pit and Pat and also learn from the more experienced guides. The fishing is also good. The boats are newer 18-foot Lunds powered by 60HP Yamaha motors. They have very comfortable cushioned chairs, depth finders, live wells and trolling motors. Most lodges have. 16-foot boats and 20 or 30HP engines, benches and no electronics You can really cover a lot of ground quickly with these 60 HP motors! It was very cold (low 40's) and rainy during our trip which impacted the fishing. However we still managed to catch several pike on the low 40s and had an afternoon during which we caught walleye over 22 inches for 3 hours straight. I made the "century club" by catching 4 walleyes totaling over 100 inches in the same day. We can't wait to return next year!

However my child wanted to continue dance and so I did more research and I found Kickit. Everything that I found unacceptable at Marquis was exemplary at Kickit right from the start. First, the communication was timely and detailed. From my initial inquiries, to class information, to costumes, to year-end recital. The right amount of information delivered in a timely manner. No delays or repeated phone calls and emails required in order to get answers or find out information as per the other school. Second, ordering costumes was seamless. The school took accountability in measuring the students and once costumes were received they took accountability for the fit. The price point was reasonable for the 2/3 minute recital performance and were absolutely adorable. Third, the teacher treated all the children with respect. I didn't notice any favoritism and more importantly neither did my child. Fourth, though I had my reservations of volunteering at the year-end recital due to the harassment experienced at Marquis, the parents of my child's class asked if I would, so I did. Kickit is such a reputable school - incredibly professional - and the running of their year-end recital would exemplify this. All the volunteer information was communicated a week before the recital so expectations were known in advance and there was time for any questions to be addressed. The parents volunteering and staff members were incredibly respectful and courteous. I cannot speak well-enough of Kickit. I would highly recommend Kickit Island Lakes! Their is no question that this school respects their dancers, their parents and is incredibly professional! Congratulations Kickit for running such an amazing dance studio! I am thrilled that we found you and look forward to continuing dance with such an incredibly talented and professional team!

The studio is huge with two levels and many rooms, plus a large change room that includes the use of showers if you wish. The admin staff in there are very caring and will give you a tour guide of the studio if it's your first time here. I will say that you'll get more bang for your buck by talking with your instructor after your practice, as they'll more easily remember your face. The reason is that for classes like slow flow, yin, or deep stretch yoga, they're very busy and it's hard for the instructor to check every single student to ensure they're doing the poses properly. While those fundamental classes are important especially for a beginner, I highly recommend some of the smaller classes, especially yoga on the wall. Overall my experience here has been positive. Yes the hot yoga classes can get busy, but I find the 10 class/month pass very reasonable at $129.

I'm visiting for work for a month so the $40 unlimited month is an awesome deal and perfect for me. They also have a really good online sign-in. Pick your class up to two days in advance, and sign up! You can also sign up for recurring classes you want to take each week. I usually do Bikram Yoga, so this series is different in many ways for me. - 40 something poses rather than 26 - the cardio level that I get to isn't as high. I feel like after Bikram i have more of a workout than this one - but good stretching and is slow in pace - they also offer a flow class which I might try once I get the hang of it - demos and talking thru the poses to know what we're doing one thing i didn' t like in my class was that we and the instructor didn't seem focused and enough, making non related comments during the class and making us laugh (which isn't bad, but I want to keep focus and relax, and supposedly keep my mind clear) Other things about the studio - small: with at least 40 people in each class, and 80% of them girls, trying to change in the change rooms or get a shower is virtually impossible - good: sells lululemon gear - good: sells water - they have the super fancy ones for $3 (small) and $6 (large) but you can also get a lesser fancy, but still fancy, big for $3 - good: after each class they some how disinfect and clean the room for 15 mins - which is nice because you walk into a fresh, non-b.o. smelling place - get there early because it fills up quick - rental mats, and towel available at $2 each - staff is super friendly and nice - triple filtered water. yum. Other things i noticed: - when we finally got down on the floor to do mat work, I found a huge temperature difference from the first svasana to this one, near the end. it was much cooler like the air lifted. I'm not sure why. - i noticed that 90% of the people wore full on pants and tank tops. aren't they hot? Is it just a toronto thing, where I go to hot yoga, and everyone is in a bra and shorts? I felt so naked. All in all, great place, and I love the flexibility of the two locations. ----- I'm reviewing the Yin Yoga class.... I actually expected something different, and thought the class description was misleading. I read it again, and it's not. Actually I was expecting a balancing class for some reason, which it wasn't, but come to think of it, would be a good idea. Using blankets, blocks and bolsters (a big pillow) postures are held for 5 mins to focus on the breathe and stretching. It was a very good stretching yoga in different poses, I just didn't expect it. Slow paced, and emphasis on the breath. The postures we did were all floor work that opened up the thigh and groin area, but I really wish they would incorporate more back and arm stretching. Maybe it differs with different teachers. I would recommend it for someone who feels tense and wants to relax.

The change rooms and showers are always clean and they smell great. And the yoga is great too! I've been to all of the classes from the Flow classes to the Moksha 60. I wanted to write this review for future employee workers. Today was my last day, and I wanted to…read moreexpress the humiliating treatment that happens at Tinkertown. There is no place to start but just to mention all the horrible things us workers deal with. This is my second year working for Tinkertown, and having a bit of experience, I can say that the person named Kyle does not know how to manage his employees. There is no communication whatsoever, and he is harsh on certain people. For example, if I speak to a colleague for one minute, he starts yelling at us. On the other hand, some people hold conversations in front of him, laugh, and do no work whatsoever, and he ignores them. Another point is that during my final exam week, when time was valuable for me to study, Kyle would let me off for one or two hours unpaid, and I had to wait for other people to finish their shifts so they could pick me up. Kyle knew about it, and he still made me wait two hours until they were done. The same goes for these people. Even if you don't ask to leave early, he will give you a 30-minute unpaid break and even let you off two hours early so the place looks full of employees and not empty. What a waste of everyone's time. Another thing I wanted to mention is that last year I was asked to work a month straight without a single day off because so many employees kept quitting due to the treatment at Tinkertown. I agreed to help because they were short-staffed, but having to work an entire month without one day of rest was unreasonable. Since this is my second year working at this place, I requested an extra shirt because mine had shrunk to my waist. He didn't care whatsoever and even questioned me about why I came to work once without my shirt. That just shows how stingy Kyle can be. Last year, Kyle even forgot to buckle the seatbelts on three little kids when he covered my bathroom break and started the ride with the kids on it. They were not buckled whatsoever, 50 feet in the air on Gunslinger, the big swings. Also, on the Pirate Ship, he got a kid's finger stuck in the lap bar while closing it down. No safety whatsoever. I left a two-week notice as a courtesy, but I honestly regret doing such a thing. I think the best option for my dignity would have been to do a no-call, no-show. There are so many things I would like to say, but I think what I have said is enough to echo what us employees get to experience and how we are treated by Kyle.

Great times for kids if all ages and sizes!…read more This great "little" amusement park is perfect for a family with smaller kids. They can ride most of the rides. That being said...there were a couple of instances of parents attempting ti convince the park staff to allow them to let toddlers on rides alone or accompanied. Some people just can't figure out why the rules are in place...and are content to waste everyone's time while they argue fruitlessly with staff... But I digress... We had a blast! Prices are fair and lines are reasonable. Kids wore themselves out! We were there for about 5 hours. Only reall complaint us the complete lack of Tinkertown souvenirs. The shop is instead stocked with cheap toys and...Disney stuff? Who want's a frozen doll from Tinkertown? I guess their management knows what's best... I really wanted an "old fashioned" fridge magnet fir our collection! Lol Awe well.
