I have to say I was very surprised when I read Rebecca's review. I just returned from overseas and my returns were proving to be horrendously complex. After asking around I received several recommendations, but decided to go with Mr. Graves. What some people may perceive as unprofessional I took as friendly. I want to have a solid relationship with the professionals with whom I work. I want to know about their lives, as it helps me judge them better. Case in point, I went to see Mr. Graves last friday to get my 2009 returns done, after he helped me clear up my 2008 mess a few weeks ago. He was working late with another client, and asked me to wait. I did so and was happy to. Why? Because if a man is going to take the time to do something right, and not rush just to get a bit of extra business... Well that speaks volumes to me. Once it was my turn, it was quick and thorough. When he had questions about something that came up, he raised the matter, explained his worries, and told me what he thought was appropriate and why. I wish everyone I worked with could be that transparent. Great guy, definitely will be working with him again. read more

This is the first time I write here, but I see I have to share my experience that others won't face my problem later !! The worst professional behavior I have ever seen ! Last year, I had to go plenty times to get everything done and it take me lots of time. This year, I wanted to have another appointment with him, prior to my appointment to check if everything is fine this time. I called and describe the situation to secretary when she asked me what is my appointment regarding to, but the secretary told me I don't need an appointment ! I said I need it, and the only favor she did !!!!! was to give me phone appointment for 15 days later !! When I called, she said he is busy and he will call you back himself. I waited 2 hours and half, I didn't get any call back. I called again I heard the same thing. after four hours, I called and said I have a doctor appointment in an hour, so I should know approximately when he will call me back ! she said rudely and impolitely you don't need to talk with him, and he calls when ever he is ok too ! I got mad and said I am the person who knows if I need to have an appointment with him or not as a client, not you ! You gave me appointment 15 days ago, and now it is more than four hours I am waiting for his call, and you still say I should wait if he calls me or not ?! I can't wait and do nothing till he calls me. at least give me the last minutes or early minutes of tomorrow. And guess what ? Stephen Graves got the phone and said : I won't do your tax, go to some one else !! and just hanged down the phone with out say anything else or let me to talk !! Can you believe that ?! It was the last week prior to 17th of April which was the deadline !! I got shocked and even my blood pressure goes really down, I couldn't Imagine ! I had to talk with my consultant to get over it !! and he helped me to handle this situation with recommending me his accountant. And guess what ? I am the winner here. Because I find a good , polite, professional,reliable and more organized CPA plus this year is different from last year. I am not low income like I was before. read more

Was ok at one point for basic tax work. In recent years awful He sent in several tax form with my wrong social security number which I had to correct. He made mistake on deadlines and cost me fines and was extremely rude about it. Last year he sent a request for donations for a cause he supports to of all his client and cc'd everybody so we all had each others email addresses. I know a few other people I referred him to years ago have left as well with their own stores. One person I know was about to go to him recently based on an old recommendation to me and was surprised I made the recommendation based on her impression of him being condescending and disrespectful in their initial call. read more

Horrible! I was told that my extension had been filed for my 2007 taxes. Several months later I received a bill from the IRS for penalties and interest due to the fact that "I" had never filed an extension. Of course, I informed Stephen, and he filed an appeal. He assured me that if the appeal was unsuccessful, he would cover the penalties and interest. Well, the appeal was declined. Stephen then refused to reimburse me and claimed to have never said that he would cover me if the appeal failed. Isn't part of the point of hiring a CPA to cover your butt? I have never felt so wronged before in my life by another "professional." I lost $2000 because of his negligence! read more

WARNING - Do NOT use this guy! This is my 3rd year going to him for my taxes and my previous experiences were like Rebecca G. has noted in her review. But, I really didn't know anyone else to go to, so I kept going back. This year, my appointment was on Friday. When I got there, he told me that he was running 30 minutes late. I had other appointments after his and I told him that I would have to reschedule, since him being late would push me into my other appointments. He went ballistic and started yelling at me in front of his other client and tried to tell me that I would have to pay his $350 fee for a last minute cancellation when he was the one running late, not me! Stupidly, I waited around. As I was standing outside, I heard him talking crap about me to his other client about how rude it was that I couldn't wait and how I was a terrible person, etc. I walked back in and told him that I deserved an apology as I was standing outside and could hear everything he said. His apology was "sorry, I didn't know you were outside and could hear me." What kind of apology was that? Then, he told me that I wasn't the nice person that I was before and that he didn't need my business and kicked me out. Is this the kind of "professional" person you want handling your taxes?
