If you like horror novels and you are in the area, this is a must stop. You can't go inside or anything, so this is like a 5 minute stop. It's really cool to think this is where Stephen King lived when he wrote some of his famous novels. The gate has dragons and other creepy designs on it and there is a creepy sculpture in the yard. Definitely recommend a quick stop if you are in the area.
Nice quiet neighborhood on a Sunday early afternoon found us swinging by this house for a few memory pictures on our way out of town. We enjoyed the decorative iron fencing around the house and the decorative wood carving in the front yard. You could almost hear the typewriter clicking away from the top floor window. This is an easy neighborhood to get to on your way through and if you're a fan of Stephen King then it will give you a warm and fuzzy to stop by and take pictures..
We made it just as the light was disappearing, perhaps apropos considering the owner of the house. Let's be honest, it's a nice victorian house to look at for a few minutes, but there's not much going on beyond that. It's not like Stephen is going to be playing croquet outside and invite you inside for Mint Juleps. But if you're in Bangor, it's a must. And if you like his work, then I can see how it would be a special moment for you. There was an annoying guy in a clown suit, though. He kept telling me about the buoyancy of various objects in sewers, and kept rubbing this balloon he for some reason had, producing a really irritating noise... he seemed like a bit of a pervert, to be honest.

It's about a 10 minute drive from Bangor Airport. Very cool to visit, but feels weird being outside a residence taking pictures. The carved tree was so cool. The houses around were decorated for Halloween and it was a dreary day so the vibe was perfect for this viewing. Worth the trip even if you're not a huge fan. Beautiful house.
This is famed Maine author Stephen King's one time residence. While he no longer resides here and there are no tours inside the home, many flock here to catch a glimpse of what genius may be lurking behind that iron gate. There are tours which do take you all around the town to see all of the places that were part of Mr. King's life and inspiration and of course this is a top spot!
Somewhat uneventful but cool nonetheless. Don't know what I expected... was a lovely Victorian with not as much "darkness" - a few classy touches with an homage to King's work.
Of course YOU HAVE TO drive by the infamous Stephen Kings house...I mean who wouldn't jump at that opportunity?! We recently moved to the area and we're so thankful to the King family for their generous donations to help make Bangor shine as it should!
We made a road detour to Bangor to drive by and see where Stephen King lived and wrote so many of his famous books! Right now it just houses his foundation, but it was a fun thing to see!
Not really sure how to review an author's private residence from a fence. This is been on our list for a while, and as I write this I think to myself "why in the world do you wanna see where someone lives?" ... yet here we are. The home is gorgeous. I love that it's right there right near the center of town, not tucked away in the forest somewhere. The gate around the house is peculiar and exactly Stephen King at the same time. I love that it makes you think of cobwebs and spiders and nocturnal beings. The big eyecatcher was this gorgeous wooden carving on the front lawn. I could've stood and stared at it for hours. There is also a curious little pathway that led back to what I'm assuming is some sort of secret garden. Such a fantastical place to live and create.
Stephen King's home in Bangor, Maine is now closed to the public but we were able to see it from the outside. I'm sure the interior would be fabulous!
We've been to Bangor two or three times over the years, it's such a quaint town. On our visits we also stopped here. Even though he's not lived him this house for several years, it's still something fun to do. I mean what's a trip to Bangor without swinging by for pics? The house is actually now used as a retreat for writers. There is a second large house on the property as well (white one). The architecture on both houses is gothic meets Victorian meets Maine. Well-maintained property; the grounds and home exteriors are in top condition. I can only imagine what the inside looks like. Many folks make the pilgrimage to Bangor because of Stephen and his relationship with the town. Our visits were for that very reason. This stop is definitely a must for any fan of his work. read more

Such a wonderful sight. If you're looking for a quick photo shoot and sightseeing, the King House is great stop while in Bangor. The intricate fence designs and architecture of the home make this a great visit. read more

Made a quick stop by Stephen King's House (one of several that he owns) while in Bangor, and was not disappointed. The mansion itself had an open driveway with vehicles outside of it, which I found incredible considering that the occupants blended in with the other homes in the neighborhood without the guise of celebrity. I completely respected the author's privacy, so I just stopped by vehicle on the very wide street of Broadway, and turned on my emergency lights just to allow enough time to take a couple of photographs.There was no way that I intended to do anything else otherwise. Seeing the home up close was certainly surreal. The vampire bats that adorn the front gates was fun to look at, and I had to give Mr. King a nod to both his sensibility toward his fans, as well as sense of humor altogether. A Stephen King novel, or home for this matter, wouldn't be complete without a hint of morbidness. I personally liked it! The home is about a mile from the primary airport in Bangor. What's fun to imagine is that Mr. King could've easily walked to the airport from his home, much less accessed the interstate for an afternoon in nearby Waterville. This is a regular neighborhood without any pretense, nor folks that are trying to sell you anything that can capitalize off of the author's celebrity. If seeking snacks prior to visiting this area, there is a gas station just down the road, as well as several small cafes and other venues. read more

House is easy to find. On a residential street so limited parking. Connor go on grounds and no tours available. However, for SK fans a neat place to see! read more

This house was so cool. Incredibly large with ornate gates and a very odd statue in the front yard. We heard that sometimes Stephen would come out and chit chat with people that stopped by to see his home, but we didn't get that lucky. It was still really cool to see the house and the place where a famous author resides. read more
We stopped here on our way to Bar Harbor. I mean why not? And guess who we saw when we stopped by? Stephen King himself. I mean, he didn't speak to us, rather he was pulling in to his driveway. He did pause and look at us as he entered his home. He was probably wondering who the stalkers were. LOL! His home is in a typical residential area of older, stately homes. His house is the only one with a fence. And quite the decorative fence I might add. It's your typical wrought iron fence, except this one has wrought iron bats. The flying kind... it probably would have been cool had I tied a red balloon to the fence, but I didn't want to be too invasive. I would say if you are in the area or passing through on your way to upstate Maine, it's worth a stop. Es if you're a Stephen King fan. read more
If you're a big Stephen King fan or even just starting out, this house is pretty neat! Stephen doesn't live here full time but there's so much history here! The iron gates are cool to look at. At the end of the day, it's a house, but it's Stephen King's house which is pretty cool. read more

While in Bangor, I knew that I absolutely wanted to swing by Stephen King's House, so that was our first stop after breakfast. It's apparently not uncommon for fans to take photographs out front. When we got there, there was only one other car. As we went to walk across the street, the lady in the car flagged me over and told me that the house next door was actually his library. read more

It has been wonderful reading all of the reviews after all these years. Someone might suggest to the groundskeeper that the footings of the gate supports have heaved and need to be redone so the gate will close. It pleases me beyond words that so many have enjoyed the work. Many thanks to the Kings for the opportunity to design and build an example of what can be done in hand forged iron. Since this isn't really King's main(e) living place, the city of Bangor may as well, whether at this site (which is merely a photo op) or at a separate tourist attraction, put the Christine car in the driveway, a Cujo doghouse near the house, and a Pet Sematary in the back, a cornfield with children, Nazi memoribilia in the basement, Annie's misplaced figurines in the living room that you can see from a secret window, and Pennywise and his balloons looking up from a grate in the gutter. And, oh yeah, only light up half of it. The mile before you get there could be painted green. But until then, this is just an easy-to-locate beautiful house with a cool gate in a nice neighborhood that would only interest Stephen King fans who want a simple photo op that will only impress other King fans. That said, we met someone there who flew in from DC just to see it. But be warned, this is not Graceland. It's barely a Grossland. read more

Really enjoyed seeing the house Christine and Cujo were my favorite when I was a kid it was kind of funny that I got to see my very first Karen in person that lady was just stupid but it didn't ruin my experience I just made it funnier Maybe Stephen can write a book about her after she gets her head chopped off lol read more
Ended the day with a Stephen King tour Loving the red balloons Stephen King lovers will get IT. No pun intended. LoL! We were 1 of 5 cars that took drive by photos. 1st yellow house pic~The Creed House from Pet Sematary. 2nd yellow house pic~Kinda hard to see and can't be the original swing. Remember the scene where Ellie is swinging and sees the Pet Sematary trail. 3rd yellow house pic~This isn't at all what Jud's house across the street looked like. read more
It seems odd to be able to check into a famous person's house on yelp and even odder to review it but.... King's famous house is a cool stop if you're in Bangor. The famous gates he's been pictured by so many times, little things like the turtle sculpture from "Duma Key" gifted to him from his agent, and the general aesthetics of the entire grounds, house, and guest house are all very cool. Perfect photo op for a King fan as well. We stopped by here while doing an "SK Tours of Maine" (1 of 30 stops) which I can't recommend enough. While I've read King in interviews and seen the other comments on this page claiming this isn't "really" King's house anymore I have to take my tour guide Stu (lifelong fan and friend of King) at his word that just the prior day to our visit King himself made a 14 year old fan's day by coming from the house to the sidewalk, signing her book and chatting for a minute. Stu (like King in interviews and other comments here) did say King spends the winter in Florida and much of the summer at his house on the New Hampshire line but that he still is here on occasion, more often than a few other reviewers would lead you to believe. In fact his (or Tabitha's) car seemed to be in the driveway while we were there. I don't doubt he often sleeps somewhere else in the city though----'cuz he still shows up around Bangor a lot since the locals leave him alone. Anyway, a cool little stop for King fans. read more
Heck, I am sure travelers like us annoy the hell outta owners of the house - but damn, it was a great place to stop for pictures. House itself looks like many of houses in same era - but what simply amazed me were the gates. The details and design is just cool. Bats, dragons, numbers - and the attention to every design detail - done in wrought iron. ...And of course, name of the legend... Wow. Thank you to my travel companion for bringing me here. Yes, color me impressed. read more

For someone who read her first SK book at 14 ("IT"), visiting Bangor was a big deal for me. I skipped the 3 hour tour, and looked up the must see stops for photos. This house was incredibly beautiful. There were some workers in the yard milling about, but otherwise, it is just a very dark colored Victorian in a neighborhood lined with gorgeous homes. Not throngs of people out in front of 47 W. Broadway, no security guards stopping folks for coming by. That morning, we were the only car that stopped; I jumped out, pinched myself to make sure I was actually there, took some photos, gawked at the beauty of the iron gates, got back in the car and left. It was really cool to see the neighborhood, and if you don't stop by the Paul Bunyan statue while you're there, you're missing out. read more
