The poor experience comes down to horrible communication, sloppiness, lack of empathy and nickel & diming customers. On the communication -- while buying a house may be routine for Darryl Glover and his team, its usually a big deal for the buyer/seller. Numerous times I had to leave multiple messages and send several emails before I would get a response from anyone. This was particularly bad working with Sharon Thompson, their senior law clerk, who was completing that paperwork. Several times it took me getting my real estate agent (who made the referral) involved to get a reply from them. They blamed it on a busy time of year -- well they shouldn't take on more work, or set the expectation straight if they can't handle it. Also, simply responding to say "we're busy but will get back to you in a few days" would have helped so I didn't have to keep chasing them. On sloppiness, they created a ton of extra work and pressure for me by not properly looking through electronic versions of docs before sending them the originals. Because I was not local, I spent a lot of time and effort getting an attorney to witness our signatures. Some places were missed by us, but I sent a scan of the complete doc to his office for review asking them to confirm all was good. We got focused on a particular issue, was told everything looked good, and 4 days later (a day after they received and 5 days before closing) I'm told about the missing items. Now I have to scramble to get another signing arranged, and have everything come down to the wire unnecessarily. A lot of extra time and cost for me due to their mistake. I suggested they pay for the courier (as a small gesture acknowledging their responsibility for the mistake) but that was ignored. On their lack of empathy -- there were other parts of the process that I kept asking for clarity on timing and process, but was never given any. They also left everything to the last minute -- I asked many times for weeks what the final amount would be and got radio silence. I then found out 4 days before closing they hadn't even connected with the seller's attorney and therefore didn't know till then. These things all created unnecessary anxiety for us, but it was quite obvious they didn't care. They also added on an egregious charge at the last minute for something they knew since before they accepted the business, but by then you have no ability to push back.

Although, his express/rushed price was a tad more costly, because I'd opted for the standard timing ahead and he just so happened to send me the drafts & finalize the papers so swiftly, I still got to pay his standard price. But, let me just say, nothing about Vinh & his services are standard, they're absolutely exceptional! He himself is a commendable man, as is his work. Henceforth, he's saved forever as my go-to. I'd recommend him a million times over to anyone! My review won't do him justice, but I'm going to try regardless. The world needs more lawyers like him and services as solid as his. Also, his services and style, was so helpful given that I don't even live in Toronto, and did not require a consultation call nor having to meet in person. Just, got everything done and wrapped up over a weekend! He mailed out the package to my fiance (who lives an hour away from Vinh's office) the same day he finalized it. Only after a month of correspondence on the eve of the closing date of selling our condo did we end up in their office where we learned that he was unable to converse with us. As we had planned on proceeding with him for the closing of our home purchase, we become stuck because the night prior to meeting him we had committed to a short windowed close for a property purchase of only 7 days. His legal assistant assured us this would be no issue. Days later, after requiring advice on a part of the process, I kept getting the same response. when i raised concerns about it possibly jeopardizing our closing, I informed them "I would seek another lawyer as Robert could not speak to the question". Never once stating that we wanted to end the relationship or not have Robert as our lawyer. simply that we sought a second opinion. Then over the weekend without my knowledge they ended our relationship and proceeded to move the money we placed in their trust back into our accounts. This was extremely frustrating as we had figured out the answers to our questions and were ready to move forward again a day and a half later, but they informed us they had ended the relationship of us being their client and already taken off the day that we had planned on closing and could no longer assist us. Due to their misconduct in abruptly ending our agreement with no notice, we reached out to the law society of Ontario to complain, as now we may have to pay another lawyer more money to expedite the closing.
