Just know that if you are a man in a divorce and there are any allegations of DV this firm (and 95%…read moreof all legal firms) either will, a) not fight for your rights to the full extent; or b) will actually encourage you to admit to something you have not done because they either believe you are guilty before reviewing all evidence or they don't believe they can prevail in your defense regardless. I'm not arguing that violent assaults should go unpunished, but statistically it is just as (if not more) likely for women-on-women DV to happen in AK as it is man-on-women. But due to the experiences of many of the young AK criminal (and civil) attorneys, troopers, DA's, and judges with men who actually commit heinous and cowardly violent acts, the system is severely biased. They don't even recognize how biased they are. All it takes is a single allegation from a scorned woman (with significant motivation to get as much $ possible out of a divorce) to get these attorneys to cower down and advise their clients to accept any plea deal or settlement no matter how poor a deal. Katharine Penrod and most other attorneys will cave to the system without even discussing the merits of the case or the facts involved with their client. She told me 100% I would be convicted if we went to trial (not what happened:). Never mind you will not be provided your constitutionally "guaranteed" due diligence or equal protections in the process. Katharine was particularly quick to judge, had poor communications with me, and I could tell was biased from the start (I respect she advocates for abused child and women but her objectivity has been compromised in the process). While I will say Chris Cromer made some half ass attempts at remedying some of the problems with my representation, I paid a lot of money essentially for his clerk to fill out forms, draft petitions, and put together exhibits that were never needed (and Chris knew that all along). I ended up having to pay AOW for Ms. Penrod's poor legal advice and then had to hire an entirely different criminal attorney who I had to coach into (essentially advocated for myself) requesting my charges get set aside. In the end it took the judge less than 3 mins to set aside my charges because he could see right through the vindictiveness of the whole allegation. Katharine (Ms. Penrod) was 100% sure I would have the DV charges stick and stay on my record and she was 100% wrong. And worse yet she never attempted to describe what evidence would be used against me, listen to my concerns, or to explain if I had any other legal options.

Attorney Penrod will make excuses like she is sick, one vacation, too many clients. She doesn't give you her contact number and hardly responds to her emails. So you end up complaining to the Alaska Bar Association or file charges in court for mishandled case.
