Was in town for work and this restaurant was recommended by the woman at the hotel front desk (I had of course already been checking out Yelp but it's nice to get a recommendation from someone local!). I was disappointed that they were out of the cornbread which sounded great. When I asked what yum yum sauce was the delightful waitress brought me a sample to try. They named it well! Yum yum! Since they were out of the cornbread she recommended the half and half potato which had yum yum sauce on it. It was delicious! The owner was there and he promised me there would be cornbread if I came back today for lunch they would have some. I did - they didn't! :-( I will have to try again when I am back in August. In the never ending search for somewhere to eat comes some gems. Stephen's Heads or Tails came up today. Let me tell you this is some fine food! It's clean, a little small but it's homey. Service was right there, super friendly!! The other customers sitting near us chatted with us, talked about what there is to do in Marksville. We had the Crawfish Etoufee and it was crazy good!! Best I've ever had! Came with a salad and bread. We both brought the salad to go because it's pretty big, fresh mixed greens tomato slices cheese cucumbers and croutons. That's an impressive side salad. Talked with Stephens the younger who cooks. Our waitress was friendly attentive and busy! The waiters were friendly and there are a lot of options on the menu, but the food was not as great as most of these reviews are saying. I had the pasta-lavista and would not get it again. It was just ok although the portion size was good. My son's burger and waffle fries was solid choice (cheddar jalapeño bun). Unfortunately, they only do the bread pudding on Friday and Saturday (and I say unfortunately assuming that it is as good as the reviews say). If I'm ever back in town and at this restaurant, I think the fried food might be the way to go. But I am a little skeptical that this deserves five stars because my first experience was not close to that. read more

Wowza!! This unassuming little place won't get your attention from the road but my God the food is good! Coming from a real Cajun cook, I approve this menu. We were hungry and ordered seafood balls and two entrees to share. We could have split one entree and still had leftovers. You get a ton of food for your money and omg do not forget the bread pudding. We read reviews and waited for it to get cooked. Oh wow...so glad we waited. I've never had bread pudding this good. The ends were crisp like fresh French bread toast and the texture was perfect with white chocolate sauce. Next time we need to sneak in some rum to daub over it. We just finished an amazing late lunch here after leaving Paragon Casino. It's a small very home-like place. The wait staff is really friendly and we enjoyed the casual environment. We started the meal out with a generous helping of fried okra. Honey had the Rico Burger and I had the lunch Top Hat plate. We were both starving and inhaled nearly everything and it was so so good. Wowzer! This place puts out some great tasting food with huge portions. I called in an order and was very impressed with what I received. I ordered the bowl of gumbo, tacos and a dozen fried shrimp. The gumbo had so much meat in it - for sure a 1/2 of a chicken breast and a link of smoked sausage. Then I came across a different sausage, possibly pork. The gumbo was so good I didn't touch the shrimp bc I couldn't pull away from the gumbo; a dark roux. The lady who took my order made me almost fall when she asked "do you want a sweet potato with that gumbo"? I didn't even think to ask for it so I was thrilled when she mentioned it! "Yes I want a sweet potato." My mother had the tacos and she said they were delicious. The tortillas were definitely hand made tortillas and that's something you don't see every day! No one ate the shrimp! We were overly impressed in the food, had enough for lunch the next day! I would've given 5 star but a to go order with no utensils or napkins? We were in Marksville again this weekend and decided to go and try the Yum Yum Sauce.....actually we went TWICE. The first time we had the Yum Yum dip with chips. Have I said this stuff is to die for?? Oh.Em.Gee! We went again on Saturday night, and we both got the Catfish Yum Yum, but asked for it grilled, which they graciously did. It was so good, I forgot to take a picture. lol. Thankfully, they provided a roll so we didn't have to lick the plates. I'm telling you the stuff is that good. The first night I got the crab burger and my husband got the grilled shrimp Poboy which were okay, though I must say it's Yum Yum all the way from now on. If in Marksville, you MUST try this place. I have shared their new menu. Reasonable prices, friendly people and Yum Yum Sauce!! Seriously, you have to try it!! This our MUST go to place in Marksville. Everything we had was very enjoyable. The fried shrimp was fresh. The seasoned fries complimented the excellent coleslaw. Loved the hush puppies and the fried catfish. The yum-yum sauce should be illegal! SO GOOD! The white chocolate bread pudding topped off the meal and will bring us back.
