It now provides excellent modern educational facilities for pupils from Whitburn and surrounding villages. There are 4 language laboratories ,6 Computing/Business Education Classrooms and 2 IT suites. There are now 10 Science labs,5 Craft & Design labs, 4 Home Economics Rooms, 4 Music Classrooms and 4 Music Tuition Rooms. There is also 1 Gymnasia,1 Games Hall,1 Conditioning Room plus 1 Dance Studio. Also an all weather pitch and changing pavilion plus a Swimming pool. My three children attended this school and all achieved good qualifications. Some of the staff have been there for a long time and this is good when you go to parent nights as they know you and you feel more comfortable discussing your childs education. The Academy is an important part of the community, used for Pantomimes and other shows, the starting point for the yearly gala day and of course it's most recent claim to fame was when local boy, Leon returned after winning X factor!

The caretaker is a lovely man who is always there to open the door for you. They run a nursery group every day and a mum and toddler group on a Friday. They also host a whole other set of classes but you'll have to check out their notice board for those. The place has a job and fulfils it for the most part.

The Castle Creche is a small building situated outside the Gyle Shopping Centre. It is an ideal…read moreplace to leave your child to play while you do the shopping. It's for children over 2 year old and on your first visit you will have to register, bringing the childs birth certificate to prove that they are of the relevant age. It is a drop in chreche between Mondays and Saturdays from 9.30 until 5.45 pm and on a Sunday it is open between 11 and 5 and it is a case of checking whether they have spaces or not. Children take their shoes off when they enter and the automatic door can only be opened from the inside where it is high up outwith a childs reach. Only parents or staff may enter. Whoever drops the child off must collect them to ensure that they are not being taken off by the wrong person. All the staff are well trained and the equipment for the children are full of variety. There is a large built in climbing centre with a ball pit at the bottom and a slide for getting out. Most children play in there though it can get a bit rough for the smaller children. There are also several nursery toys, from role playing, to ride ons, with gluing tables and also a video corner, though I do find, when I put my son in the creche he ends up in the video corner. The prices are fantastic and you are initially charged for 30 mins and then it will increase for every 15 minutes, a parent is not allowed to leave the Gyle Shopping centre when their child is in the creche incase something happens. The Creche can also be hired out for birthday parties. I believe it is around £50 for 90 minutes. The cost includes, use of play equipment, one member of staff to assist and plates and cups. You provide the food, or order food from one of the establishments in the food court. You can also use their kitchen to prepare your food. All in All, if you want some time shopping, kid free, drop them into the creche and have the peace you so rightfully deserve!

I primarily browsed the DVD section here, and was not disappointed. Charity shops are the ideal place for a great bargain. For example, whilst perusing the DVD shelves, I found 'Wanted' for the bargain price of £2.99. All of the stock on offer seemed of a good quality, and I was impressed with the selection of things on all fronts. As with all charity shops, you have to hunt around a bit, as they are not as meticulously organised as typical high street retailers. I may have to come back and do a more thorough check of their selection. Of course, the stock will change all the time, as is the case with charity shops. An unbelievable bargain is almost guaranteed.

Inside it is quite roomy and what I like most is the book selection on the right side of the wall. It is massive. They are stocked in order and you can easily look by authors names. You can get old and new titled books, as well as DVDs and CDs. They also have a vast clothes collection and some children toys and games at the back. You can even find changing rooms and try on the garments in private. The staff is really friendly and the place is clean. Prices are fab and don't forget you support a Charity :-)

As I graduated a few years back, I can only speak of my experience. I think that St Georges has a lot of great teachers, a lot of fantastic facilities and honestly, it's one of the best schools out there. But when I was there I felt like there was not much trust between many of the senior teachers and their pupils. They didn't really care much for your well being but more for your grades and getting people through the school. I also didn't get the impression they were trying to educate about jobs to go into or careers, it was almost entirely focused on passing exams. As I said, there were some notable exceptions to this but it was definitely prominent in the senior teachers in charge.

These two day courses are run through the telford college and leaves you with a fabulously fun hat or two!
