The only reason why I was reminded to write them a review was because they did an email blast of all their former clients asking for 5 star reviews. If you write them one one Google, Yelp, and Facebook, they send you this chrome picture frame with your wedding photo in it. I uploaded the email. I hate businesses that solicit that crap. Our wedding photo shoot was one of the most awkward experiences of my life. Michael had us do these incredibly uncomfortable poses. At one point we refused to do some poses. His editing skills is pretty much bumping up the saturation to an unnatural level. His professionalism was also lacking. He wasn't the friendly or easiest to talk to. We had sent him poses we wanted to do and he did maybe 1/4 of them. He also violated part of our signed contract. The only good thing was that he was affordable. I wish I had spent more money and found a different photographer.

My husband and I were pretty uncomfortable with the idea of having a day where all eyes were on us, and yet she made the whole experience so comfortable and helped us overcome our awkward fears. She was fantastic at giving subtle direction to capture just the right moment. She also helped navigate a rainy day in Central Park for the shoot, helping to hold umbrellas and working to avoid downpours to keep my hair and makeup decent (bless her!) After our engagement shoot, we consulted with her on our wedding day, the schedule, the 'must haves' on our photo list and that we were mostly hoping to capture us and our guests having a great time dancing. Erica came prepared and flexible as changes arose in pre-wedding shoot venues. She had a great eye, stopping us occasionally in front of cool buildings/graffiti in Williamsburg to take portrait and couples photos. She moved quickly through all of the 'must haves; she knows what she is doing and is efficient! Additionally, I (stupidly) did not prepare her that I would have a gown change during the evening; regardless, she was ready to capture my 're-entry'. She was truly there at all of the right moments without feeling invasive at all. She was also extremely patient with my mother, who suffers from dementia, giving small and clear adjustments to avoid my mother being confused or overwhelmed. We just received our photos from the wedding day, and wow... they are stunning. My husband and I agreed that we would be happy if we had a handful of good ones, but we are astonished by how much she was able to capture so beautifully! We are simply blown away by the photos and memories she's been able to provide us.

I received a referral from my husbands bff for Terri Baskin, who then referred Joshua since my bff (the bride) was super short on time (like needed engagement photos in 24-48 hours) and she was unavailable. Little did I know that popular photographers such as Joshua and Terri are booked solid for weeks and months at a time. After speaking to Josh over the phone during three separate convos, he understood the vision my friend was going for AND made time for her to shoot even though he had numerous appointments. I convinced the bride that this was the guy and she shouldn't look for any one else. People had told me prior to the wedding that it is important to choose a photographer you get along with because you will be with him/her all day. I really did not believe them until the wedding and post wedding (when you work closely with the photographer/staff on the wedding album). Fortunately, while choosing a photographer, we did keep this advice in the back of our heads. In my opinion, the wedding photographer/company is 1 of the most important wedding related decisions that a couple has to make. We had heard some horror stories from some couples re their photographers and obtaining pics/album post wedding. Spencer and his entire staff are incredibly professional, efficient & a pleasure to work with. 3 qualities that I wanted to share about Spencer that I think are of relevance is he is easy going, attentive to detail & passionate about his work. Additionally, Spencer and his staff allowed me to be involved with the layout of the album, which was important to me. While that is not important for most couple, if it is, be aware that many companies do not give you any control. Spencer and his assistant showed up 30minutes early, our pictures were available to share on the internet within 3 weeks of the wedding and our album was completed within 4 months. (Much of the delay was selecting which pictures to put in the album. It was extremely difficult as we had so many amazing pictures to choose from). I will say that both my husband and I wanted non traditional wedding photos, more action shots and artistic pictures. IF you are looking for an album of traditional posed pictures, 5 west studios may not be the way to go.
