Ruth, a beautiful blonde, bubbly chatty woman, is usually serving behind the counter. She's been at Brava for 9 years, and knows everything about Pontcanna Street, and is graciously willing to share her knowledge. It's not that she's a gossip! It's just that she naturally enthuses about pretty much everything in life, and so, somewhat inevitably, she talks about what she sees on this quiet, but eventful street. The food is good and varied. There's plenty of daily specials, made with organic and free range ingredients wherever possible, as well as pasta dishes and sophisticated sandwiches, if you prefer a lighter lunch. breakfasts are pretty special too.... if you haven't tried their Eggs benedict, then you haven't lived! No-one hurries me when i take up root on the terrace, to indulge in a read of the paper, whilst keeping one eye trained on the street. Brava is a bit of a Mecca for the celebrities in town, as well as visiting notables. I'm not so much interested in the celebrities themselves, but i do enjoy watching how everybody else behaves around them!

By the way, they take Covid measures very seriously here which is a nice change from London. I ordered their classic Welsh Breakfast (I believe it is called "Meaty") and it came with an assortment of items like a classic English breakfast. All the items were very okay but I really liked the bacon though which had a bit of a fattiness to it and was pretty thick cut. I will say that that is probably the only thing on the plate with natural flavor so just be mindful of that so you can eat it with everything. Overall, not a bad meal in Cardiff and +1 for the cheap prices. I think I'm just not a huge English breakfast person but if you are, you will probably love this cute little place.

It was early so I was a little worried they would only be serving breakfast but I was so happy when they said I could get what I wanted. I wanted the Welsh Rarebit and the Glamorgan sausages. I had never tried either before. The Welsh Rarebit was amazing. Thick bread and the cheese mixture was so good. I could have eaten it all. I may have to try to make it when I go home. I had no idea what to expect with the Glamorgan sausages. No meat. Just cheese, leeks and breadcrumbs deep fried. I tried it and for Americans, it tasted just like Thanksgiving stuffing! Good, homemade thanksgiving stuffing. It was a surprise. Really good. My friend got scrambled eggs and toast. She liked it. She also got an iced coffee that she loved. The ladies working were wonderful and we chatted about our trip. They were on top of everything. It was such a cute place. Well worth the drive out of city center.

Firstly I ate in the café with a group of friends, and as our table appeared to resemble a giant mushroom, I must admit I felt slightly like a snail. We were all rather naughty and ordered some cakes; I had a lemon drizzle cake, which was utterly to die for though I think I may need to make a few trips to the gym before ordering it again. I'm a big fan of delis so was very excited to check this one out. They sold a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, pasta, fresh bread, and some incredibly unusual spices which we were aloud to try out. I purchased some olives which whilst weren't the best I've ever had (nothing could compete with fresh olives in Italy), were jolly good. Sticking with the French theme Snails also offers weekly French conversations, which I'm told are very popular. A Fabulous cafe and deli, Snails is a real little treat for locals and those visiting the area, oh and be sure to check out their little garden outside (very cute).

It's hard to pinpoint it's importance, or at least the importance I attribute to it... I guess it must be a sum of all its parts rather than one thing in particular... or something like that? Put it this way, if it ceased to be there, the place just wouldn't be the same... there would be something missing, something small, but nevertheless significant. Is it the true blue support that the café invests in Bristol City, with memorabilia adorning the walls? Or is it that it harkens back to yesteryear, when things were simpler, and just that little bit more 'cosy'? Or is it that Sue's Breakfast Bar is practically the only eatery left on the street that seems to celebrate the morning as it begins, instead of something that happens at the drunken tail-end of a night out? Or is it the simple comfort food made with care that warms the cockles of my heart? And the prices? The prices that also seem to have weathered the vicissitudes of time? Yes, it's a combination of all of these things. That and the chicken and stuffing dinner for £4.00 followed by cherry pie and custard.

Rightly so this is a café straight out of Eastenders but more interestingly it's well kept with pride on the walls in support of the owners football team more interestingly it has kept the traditional greasy spoon alive on a road that had forsaken such a place. Am I making this place out to be great, well yes and no. Sue's has it's place and that is filling people with warm comfort food for a hard days work.
