Here's an unfortunate customer "service" review from an olive oil connoisseur who lives in New York City.
This past Sunday, my wife and I were spending the last day of our wonderful 10-day vacation to visit our daughter who recently moved there.
While at the food market in Torvehallen, I happened to be standing near Stig's Oliven, browsing his shop whilst I waited for my wife and daughter who were at other shops nearby. I was looking at my cell phone, trying to obtain a Krone-to-US Dollar conversion rate on a kr 300 can of olive oil when a text message came in from a dear friend.
As I was replying to the text, the shop owner Stig came over and asked me not to stand so close to his shop, claiming that he'd suffered a recent concussion, and that my standing there was causing him double-vision and making him feel dizzy.
Having just heard one of the most preposterous stories in my 64 years, I felt chased away from the spot I was standing in, as if I were being viewed by him as a homeless vagrant intent on stealing from his shop. Now, thanks to Stig, I got a taste of the shame, humiliation, and stigma these people often feel.
Not wanting to create a scene or a disturbance of any kind, I quietly moved along to a spot about 20 feet away.
NOTE TO STIG: In the aftermath of that moment, it should be obvious to anyone reading this that I chose not to buy that overpriced can of olive oil from your shop. As I visit the market on subsequent future trips to Copenhagen see my daughter, I'm sticking with that decision.
What may NOT be so obvious is that I didn't buy your story about your "concussion" either. I saw right through it. read more
