Beautiful packaging and lovely bakery! It's one of those pretty bakeries where stopping in is an experience. It's nice to stare at all the goodies packed into the small space. I wish I had more time in Paris to come back and try more items, but the only chance we had was to come for breakfast on our last day. We got the baba au rhum (rum cake), hazelnut russe(I think?) and a croissant. I was a bit disappointed in the croissant, I didn't taste the butter very much. The baba would have been a great midday or after dinner dessert, but for breakfast, the rum was a little much for me. It was cold and refreshing, great for a summer midday snack if you like a sweet moist rum cake. Our favorite was the hazelnut russe--not too sweet! No line on a Tuesday morning. We took the pastries to go (not seating) and went down to a cafe a few doors down to eat outside with some espresso.
An absolute classic in Paris that is worth the hype and you must stop in! We came in the afternoon and they still had a great selection. We opted for an eclair and a chocolate croissant. The eclair was so delish with such a light and yummy pastry and and delicious cream inside. The chocolate croissant was SO flaky and delicious and the filling was to die for. These pastries were delicious and you must try!
On a mission to experience Paris's legendary pastry history, I was looking forward to trying the oldest bakery in Paris. Stohrer is located on the quaint Rue de Montergueil alongside other cute cafes and shops and was marked by a historical landmark sign that explains the bakery's historical and cultural significance. The storefront had a regal appearance, which was fitting given its rich history and designation as the birthplace of the rum baba. We arrived in the early afternoon when there wasn't a line, and the pastry case was fully stocked with a wide assortment of pastries and macarons of every color of the rainbow. I decided to try the brioche with candied citrus, and we also ordered an eclair and cream puff. I took my pastries to-go since there wasn't any seating in the bakery or outside. The brioche was decadent but not too sweet, and I noticed pieces of candied fruit laced between layers of pastry. The pastry itself was drier than a croissant, and it paired well with a cup of tea. It was such a cool experience to visit the time-honored bakery, and we'll have to try the rum baba on our next visit.
I've been wanting to try Stohrer since it's the oldest patisserie in Paris. The line was out the door, but moved very quickly. I got a little chocolate cake for 7.30 euros. It was super delicious and I liked all the layers to it. Definitely a bit pricey, but this place is super well known and popular. They have plenty of pastries and veinnoiseries available.
This is the oldest patisserie in Paris! Unfortunately there was construction outside, so it was not too attractive today! It began in 1730. They have beautiful pastries and are known especially for their baba au rum. That's just what we bought. It's delicious, but really messy, so take it to go! The service was lovely as was the interior of the shop.

One of the best bakeries in Paris we tried. The plain croissant and the pain au chocolat, a few macarons (chocolate, raspberry, pistachio) and everything was aaaahmazing!! This will def be a go-to spot in Paris!

Among his notable achievements, Stohrer is credited with creating the rum baba. Even after 3 centuries in the business, the original shop feels timeless rather than decrepit. Expect patrons to be snapping pics outside Stohrer's gold-on-navy storefront. The flashy interior, designed by nineteenth-century French painter Paul Baudry, is more fit for a palace than a pastry shop. Highlights of the classically Parisian decor motifs include the ornate chandelier and the aqua tiled floors. The brightly lit pastry case is bountifully stocked with cakes, tarts, macarons, and everything in between. I visited on a weekday afternoon, and Stohrer still boasted a sizeable clientele. The service was professional and efficient, and the staff spoke enough English to share some solid recommendations. I took my spoils back home to share. The Baba Chantilly -- Stohrer's signature, rum-soaked Baba au Rhum piped with vanilla cream -- was not for the abstinent. Each bite of chewy cake was like downing a shot of rum without the alcoholic burn. On this pastry, I found the vanilla cream to be a superfluous addition. In contrast, the Saint Honore Vanille was vanilla-centric, highlighted by Bourbon vanilla custard and whipped cream. The glazed pastry puffs were just icing on the cake. The eclairs were probably the best I've ever enjoyed, piped with a gelato-smooth filling and topped with a well-distributed glaze. We preferred the boldly espresso-y Eclair au Café, but the deeply dark aqua-tiled Eclair au Chocolat was a delicious alternative. The personal-sized pastries cost upwards of 5 euros: a pittance for some of Paris' best. If you have time for only a single pâtisserie, Stohrer is a strong contender. While I strongly recommend the eclairs, Stohrer has a wide enough selection for even the pickiest of pastry-goers.
This is apparently the oldest patisserie in Paris! I found this spot online while looking for a pastry shop to go to on my last morning in the city. This popped up as a spot to visit, and I was sold. All the pastries looked so beautiful, but I had my eyes set on trying the kouign amann and had to resist the temptation for the others. I ended up taking it with me and bringing it onto my flight. When I ended up eating it, it was still fantastic! It was so extremely flakey, buttery, and had just the right amount of sweet glaze on the outside. Definitely one of the best, if not the best kouign amann I've had. The shop is also decorated really nicely inside and they also sell massive macarons! A great spot to visit :)
Delicious chocolates! We got some chocolates to go, including a milk chocolate with praline topping that was so rich and delicious. I also brought some chocolates to bring home. The store is very charming and even when there is a long line, it moves quickly. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

I follow a dermatologist on Instagram who has made a few trips to Paris. On her last trip she shared her experience buying some treats in Paris, including a chocolate eclair from Stohrer which she highly recommended. Naturally, on my recent trip to Paris I knew I had to give it a try. It is situated in the middle of this beautifully lit up street with many other small businesses. Right near the entrance is a sign detailing the roots of the business, dating back to the early 1700s! There was a bit of a line but it moved quite fast. I was worried the eclairs would be gone but there was plenty on display. I ordered and and was given the eclair in one of the pretty to go boxes I've ever seen. Outside, I perched up in the first spot I could find and gave the eclair a try! It was very delicious, not too sweet, and had the perfect texture. It didn't take me very long to finish it. It was a rather brief experience I had at Stohrer but I did enjoy it and felt it was worth going back to! If you're checking this pastry shop out it's definitely worth a try.
Very beautiful bakery with many options and affordable prices. They gave us free chocolate samples too. I got a pain au chocolat and it was delicious and loved that it came warm!

some of the best pastry and viennoiserie you can find in paris! historic location with a gorgeous interior, fast and efficient service! make sure to go early so you get them at their best. croissant: heavy and rich in the aroma of butter, very large, good open crumb and honeycomb structure interior - clear demonstration of tried and true technique kougin aman: incredible caramelized sugar flavor, gorgeous lamination, perfect overall pain au chocolat: chocolate is very high quality! does a good job of remaining buttery despite the strong flavor of the chocolate! read more
As soon as we landed in Paris and checked into our hotel, we hit the ground running as we were both hungry. We had dinner plans for later, so we were looking for something relatively light. I whipped out Yelp and noticed that Stohrer wasn't too far away - this place was actually a spot I had bookmarked, so needless to say we headed over for some treats. Stohrer is credited as being the oldest pâtisserie in Paris, and is located on a busy street lined with other businesses. It has a rich history, and is credited with creating the rum baba. The interior is pretty typical of other bakeries - it's not too large, and has an impressive display case filled with a variety of bakes. The opposite wall as several grab-and-go items like pre-packaged cookies and chocolate. We decided to get a few things - specifically a citrus tart, a small sponge cake, and a cookie. The bakes were really good, with my favorite being the citrus tart. The crust had the integrity to keep the filling intact, and the flavor of the curd combined with the cream was delicious. I enjoyed the other bakes as well - really everything was high quality. Service was efficient, and overall I had a good experience at Stohrer. The quality of the bakes and the rich history make this a destination pâtisserie in Paris. I would definitely return the next time I'm in the city, perhaps next time I'll try the baba. read more

I want it all. Everything we've tried has been amazing. Most memorable was the citrus tart. Such strong lime flavor, it was like having a mojito. The kouign amann was flaky and buttery as it should be. Of all the bakeries we've tried while visiting Paris, Stohrer has been my favorite. This is a take out only place, wish it had tables and chairs. read more
Saw several blogs say Stohrer had the best croissants in Paris, so we had to check it out! I'm not sure that it was the best croissant we had, but it was very good. We also got the "tarte au citron" which had a delicious, tart and citrusy flavor, I really enjoyed it! They also had a ton of other cute cakes at little pastries that I hope to go back and try! read more
Ordered a bunch of items - a macaron, apple tarte, pan au chocolat, a honey chocolate tart, and a white chocolate ball. Overall, everything was delicious, but the service left room for improvement. They're rushing you out as soon as you walk in - even if you're still ordering like I was. Overall, yummy, but perhaps go when it's not crowded so you can peacefully pick your poison. read more
Stohrer is a beautiful pastry shop in the famous Rue Montorguiel. It's very old - it opened in 1730. The inside is decorated so nicely! On a hot day, they had the ac on really high. It's supposed to be the oldest patisserie in Paris. Nicholas Stohrer, the founder, was Louis XV's pastry chef. That's from before the French Revolution! There's no place to eat inside, and it can get crowded, there's a line bit it moves fast. read more

Oh my goodnesssssss. We paid Stohrer a visit on our first full day of Paris because you already know that pastry gorging was a priority. Walking inside is like a child walking into Disney world. I wanted to get down to basics first so I ordered a classic croissant. It was everything you dream about when you dream about croissants. You don't? Me neither... It was fluffy with delicate layers for days that melted in your mouth. GF ordered a pan au ciocolat which contained similarly light layers with the added benefit of chocolate chunks. I will admit, the first time I tried baba rhum at a famous Italian bakery in NY I wasn't a fan. After reading that the pastry is actually Parisian and this place does them particularly well, I wanted to give ol' baba another chance. It's packaged beautifully with a cherry on top inside a lil box. The second you push your spoon edge into the thing, rum seeps out from the bottom. The dough is completely saturated in the stuff but it wasn't overwhelming as it was the other one I have tried. Stohrer's version is delicious. read more

Stohrer was one of the Patisseries that was commonly recommended by food vloggers, so we made it a priority to go on one of our days in Paris. We were able to stop by on a Tuesday morning around 10:30am. The place wasn't too busy at all, and the line went by quickly. The inside of the bakery was gorgeous. It had baroque style art, which ties to its history of being the first patisserie in Paris founded by King Louis XV's baker. We ordered a croissant, baba au rhum, Mont blanc, and a caramel éclair. Everything tasted amazing, but I certainly had my favorites. The éclair was fantastic. It was the first one I had on my trip, and I already knew it was the best. I've never had an éclair that good and especially back at home. I'm worried I won't find one quite like it. The croissant was the best I've had in Paris. It was crispy and flaky, and the crumb was so soft. I tried a Mont Blanc elsewhere before Stohrer. Candidly I liked Stohrer's better because it was more complex and had layers to it. I think I remember hearing that the baba au rhum was invented by Stohrer, but don't quote me on that. I've never had anything quite like it. It was like a pâte de choux with a rum glaze over it. read more
Wow, absolutely an amazing patisserie! We found the oldest patisserie in Paris by accident and we were so glad we did! The patisserie looked very clean and homey, and smelled amazing! We ended up getting the eclair, which is hands down the best eclair I've tasted: moist and fresh, custard was not too sweet. We were easily and quickly served by 2 of the workers who helped us describe some of the pastries in English. Do not miss this place if you're near The Catacombs. read more
Oldest pastry shop in Paris but some of the freshest, tastiest, and dopest treats around. I came in yesterday when my wife mentioned she wanted a croissant and I'm sure glad we came. This is a small little store that packs a big ol' punch. I ordered a croissant for my wife and a flan for myself. The croissant was massive and a good snack. The flan was also large. The flan wasn't like the traditional South American flans I'm used to but still had a wonderful creamy taste. Ordering even when the store is full, which is is likely to be, is fast and painless. The area is also rather touristy and nice. We will probably come back to try more during our trip. read more

This is the oldest bakery in Paris and so a must try for me. There's always a line when you come here. I ordered a few of their pastries. I enjoyed most of it especially the croissants, except the eclair. Their pastries look great and they aren't too sweet. I would come back next time. read more

The scent of fresh pastries wafting out of Stohrer's doorway along the Rue Montorgueil, pulled my husband and I right into this iconic shop. Navy in its outdoor design, filled with elegant decor on the inside, and adorned with gilded signage, Stohrer is the oldest Parisian pastry shop. Founded in 1730, the shop was opened by Nicolas Stohrer, the Polish pastry chef to Louis XV and his wife Marie Leszczynska. The interior of the shop is designed by Paul Baudry, a French painter who lived in Paris during the 19th century. The shop is situated on Rue Montorgueil, which is one of the best semi-pedestrianised shopping streets Paris has to offer. My husband and I went with the strawberry tart for my birthday treat, and every bite of it was delicious and decadent. But aside from the pastries, you can also find packaged treats and goods to bring back home, such as macaroons, bottled caviar, and marzipan treats. read more
