This place is bonkers. I have never seen anything like it. In 1964 Stone Age Antiques was founded by Milton and his son Gary Stone. The business started out from father Milton's landscaping business started after WWII. Milton started using nautical ornaments in his landscaping projects. A collection began and soon he had a warehouse full of odds and ends. Milton decided the antique business would be easier than landscaping and Stone Age was born at 733 NW 27th Ave. After they outgrew the space they opened the store at its current location at the Miami River at 3236 NW South River. Dr. Milton was a bit of a character who had a reputation of enjoying kicking people out of his store who tried to haggle prices with him. It is said that he liked to order people to leave more than he liked to sell to them. Three years ago new owner Lou purchased the business. He has a background in selling antiques and had done business with Stone Age in the past. He claims to not even know everything that is here. The nautical collection grew to include thousands of items from all over the world. Items range from a few dollars to many thousands. Some items are rented for films and commercials. This is the place to visit if you need an old Spanish cannon, African tribal mask, or a suit of armor. This place has to be seen to be believed. If you like a treasure hunt head on over to Stone Age where the most oddball items in all of Miami reside. read more

Not really worth going if you're looking to buy as most everything is overpriced. The younger gentleman is really helpful but the owner is a rude bitter man. Anyways, good to kill 30-45 min, that's about it. read more

An amazing place. Could spend hours wandering around there. Great variety, even had some ephemera. Unfortunately due to the volume of items, nothing is priced. So I had to carry it with me to the front and then - while prices were ok - I was looking as a reseller and nothing they quoted would work for me to make any money. That's my problem, not theirs. Decided to stop by here with the family, including our sailor, during our vacation in August. We were greeted upon entry and checked up on to see if we had any questions regarding their items. This place could charge a fee as a museum. They have so many interesting things and I have to say it was more organized than most antique stores we have visited and was surprisingly clean. They have industrial fans everywhere to keep the place cooled down and enjoyable to walk through. We would have bought this beautiful grandfather clock, but too far from home. Highly recommend you stop by for a look. read more

Do you have a like for Jimmy Buffett? Do you like the nautical look? Do you like antiques? Did you like the songs of Gordon Lightfoot? If you answered "yes" to one or more of these this will be the place for you. I needed a tetanus shot after but what great fun. Lots of rusty stuff. I got a diving helmet and a spear gun. My friend got a mermaid statue and a harpoon. Looking for a whale gun from the 1700s? They got it! There's an old-timer there that has verbose long stories about everything. But you know what? He's very knowledgeable and interesting. Some of the things are priced higher than "Balls" on a giraffe, but it's worth the trip. After this, we went to monkey Island. read more

Still a five stars for me. I went today for a poke around, a nose and ideas to be peeked for my home. It never disappoints. Albeit dusty, do yourself a favour and go visit! Go for a history lesson if nothing else. Go for dust! Go for interesting conversations. Go to support local. Go to see what History Miami has. We enjoyed our time there and were welcomed warmly and enthusiastically from the young gentleman who works there and who knows the store well and could offer so much information of the history and where abouts, of the source of most items. Intriguing place. I certainly feel it has the look that makes you want to stop and take a walk inside. While there are many antiques here I do feel that there is a lot of redundancy. There's so much clutter is hard to appreciate some of the fascinating things that can be found in this place. With that being said, it has a very old and eerie feel to it which I think makes for a great antique store. I walked inside and was by myself and i got chills from hearing the metals above me creak with the wind and the smell of OLD and not a sound to be heard. Definitely a sight to be seen in person. I've been living in Miami since I was 10. 16 years later I come to find out about this place. I'll probably go back with more time and check it out further. It really is interesting. read more

THIS PLACE ROCKS! of course after you get over the shock of what this place looks like ;) My mom found this place, and when I went with her the first time, I was like "what the hell is this place?" This place has sooooooooooooooooooo much stuff it's incredible, & the place is HUGE!! Items piled on top of each other in some sections, other sections organized but in a dysfunction kind of way... It sounds weird but if you stop by, you'll understand completely! Do not I REPEAT do not come in heels, or wedges ladies, wear sneakers, or sandals due to the uneven walkway up to the store! OK So the only reason I come here is because of all their cool African, Buddha, & etc., masks, shields, & spears that they carry. My hubs is a HUGE fan of this section, and what they carry some is actually real. Last year for Christmas, I bought a movie prop from them - (Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls) - a funny looking shield. So neat! The owner (family owned/ Father&Son) also told us that the show Burn Notice comes in and purchases a ton of things to just blow up, when they have those explosion scenes, seriously how cool!?! If you are in rush do not come - you need to have time to go through this place! You get sucked in when you see what they have to sell. I brought my friend here a couple weeks before Christmas to show her what this place is all about, and we ended up staying a little over an hour. She could not get over how amazing this store was. If you like the boat theme, they have cool items for you! We bought thick rope from them as well as poles with the rope around them as if at a boating dock. They have sail boats, wheels from boats... the list goes on and on... They also have silverware, an old scuba outfit - hmm OH like the one Cuba Gooding Jr. wore in the Men of Honor movie. Five stars for the products but the proprietor is quite surly and basically considers it an affront to offer to pay less for anything. Being a picker and an antiques dealer for the last couple of years, this place is a honey hole! There's off the wall things, collectibles, junk, Americana, taxidermy, carvings, fossils, etc. You name it, they have it. Everything is decently priced and not above retail, you can so haggle with Gary, who will give you a great price. I love this place so much. Room after room after room of cool and interesting nautical antiques will tickle your fancy and make you wish you had more luggage space. From binnacles to carvings to anchors to portholes, the amount they can fit in here is simply staggering. They use a number of items as props for movies and it shows. read more

I have visited Stone Age over the years--always looking for clocks, architectural pieces, a hidden antique, repair materials... In fact, the unusual, things you do not find anywhere else. Although I am not into nautical stuff, something they have plenty of, they usually have a ship bell's clock or two. This place is huuuuge and loaded with antiques (mainly boating antiques but they have a bunch of other random stuff). I went there with the intention of buying an antique whiskey oak barrel and spent at least an hour wandering the halls of this place admiring all their stuff. Owner is too full of himself. And really surly. Prices are absolutely retail plus. No bargains here. And watch out since there are lots of new things, especially brass from India, and art work that is not antique. . Don't ask for a bundled price for multiple items. He gets nasty and says everything is priced fairly and there is no haggling. Well, given that yiu have to dig things yourself from under piles of other junk, you'd think he might be a little more.
