I went here with a few friends for a Wednesday night activity, and we had a lot of fun! It's a regular bowling alley with lots of lanes. We were some of the first people there around 5, but quickly filled up. The staff were nice and accommodating. Our lane broke a few times, but the staff were quick to help. If you like casual bowling with friends, I definitely recommend this place. You'll have a good time. read more

This is an old, classic bowling alley with some added modern tech. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable. The lanes were oiled and the pin setters were working well. The only downside it is an old building and smells a little bit like an old basement, but you get used to it after awhile. read more

This place is my go to spot for a night of bowling with their incredible Wednesday night special. 2 hours of bowling (as many games as you can bowl) and a pizza for $14 a person. Pretty much an unbeatable deal in and of itself. Add on to that the fact that the pizza is fairly decent and drinks are reasonably priced and this is the place to be on Wednesday evenings. They also do many things to get beginners such as myself into bowling and I'd high recommend checking them out. Want to get some more activity in? I wanted to go to Madison Bowl, but husband suggested we try this place out. We bowled on a Thursday early evening (4th of July pre weekend). We figured it wouldn't be that busy. We got there and we thought it was closed. There was a sign on the front of the door. They were renovating and to please excuse the mess. We called and staff answered. He told us that they were open and that the side door was unlocked. Both front, side and back doors were locked. He had to walk over and unlocked the doors. We got in and it was completely empty. We were the only ones there. I will say this, I really LOVE the old school vintage look. I don't mind the equipment not being updated and appreciate the nostalgia. The bowling alley was clean. The gentleman that unlocked the door rang us up for 4 games, gave us our shoes and even waited on us at the bar. He was the only one there. There were two other people coming in. His shift was about to end. I wish he would have stayed becuase he was really friendly and helpful. My husband had a coupon from Verizon Wireless- save 50% off. We were able to get the shoes and bowl 4 games for $18.80. This would have cost us $32.00+. That was a deal. Before we bowled we got drinks. I was excited to see that they carried Rhinegeist Beer. I got the Cougar and my husband got a Coors light bottle. We kept an open tab. By the end of the night, we had 3 beers each and ended up spending $34.00 on beer including tip. After the 1st staff shift ended, there was a young lady and man that worked that night. The lady was a bit rude. I needed an 8 lb bowling ball and she told my husband to go get it behind the counter. The other man was okay, but he acted like he didn't want to be there. I had a great time, but wasn't too thrilled with the staff and their attitude. The bowling area itself was cool. My only con with the bowling lanes is that it's not smooth. You can tell by the way the ball was rolling. I would like to return and give it another try because maybe the staff was just having a bad day. read more

It's fine for league bowling but wouldn't be my first choice for non-league bowling. There's usually some sort of problem with the lanes or scoring system that disrupts the flow of the games. They do have good prices, but it's one of those you get what you pay for type things. The pizza is very good. It's conveniently located off I-71. Make sure to turn down the street right before the building (when coming from I-71) because otherwise you'll miss the parking is in the back. read more

Kind of your standard decrepit, outdated bowling alley. I couldn't tell if the carpet had been pulled up recently or eons ago with no hope of being replaced. Vending machines looked like they may have had the same candy in them for the last decade. There's a nice little bar area in the one corner. There is a second bar area that seemed abandoned along the main bowling lanes. I was happy to find a not too overcrowded cosmic/glow bowl going on here on a Friday night. Rental shoes were in good shape. As always, a decent ball was hard to come across. The girl working the counter was really nice and the prices weren't crazy. They even gave us a couple of dollars to play music on the jukebox when their satellite radio went out. read more

Stone Lanes is just not my cup of tea. Yes I like that is it old school but thats about it. We went on a Friday night and that was our first problem. It was packed beyond belief we waited in line for about 15 minutes just to get shoes. There was only one person working the desk on a Friday night! We paid for an hour and a half of bowling which was the dumbest thing I could have ever done. She told us that our game would be added to our friends lane and we would start in the middle of the game. Ok weird? So we waited and waited as the finished their game nothing happened and we were never added. We then went back to the crazy line, waited again and finally told her that we were never added. She said, ok you are now added. I asked, "So were we paying for this half hour the entire time we were not bowling?" She looked at me in a rush and was said, "I don't know, yeah, probably but you are added now." Then moved onto the next customer. Knowing that we were totally getting jipped and just wanted to bowl at least one game this night we reluctantly went back to our lane and played one round of bowling for $20 + shoes. for the both of us. Also while we were waiting around, I ordered a cheeseburger thinking yeah greasy old school bowling alley will have decent burgers. Oh my. This burger was ice cold so much that the cheese did not even melt and it tasted like a microwaved puck. It was completely inedible. Overall this was one of the worst bowling alley experiences I have ever had and it's a shame because my friends seem to like this place for nostalgic reasons. Word of advice avoid the food and do not come on the weekends! read more

I'm convinced that stone lanes is the best bowling alley in the city. I like it because it has just the right level of "bowling alley feel". It looks like hasn't been updated in at least 20 years, so it feels traditional, but the lanes are kept in good shape and operational. There is a hyper bowl section (black lights and whatnot, which is always awesome) but it isn't all crazy like star lanes. The prices are very reasonable, and they have different deals almost every day of the week. In addition, they have some pretty decent beers on draft. The food is pretty decent, it's what you would expect (pizza, burgers, fried stuff) All and all, my friends and I have had some pretty good times here.Stone is pretty much just about bowling, and having a good time. read more

Stone Bowling Lanes fulfills a need (to bowl) and that's about it. I have some friends who complain that it's "ghetto." In my opinion, bowling alleys are supposed to be ghetto! When I go bowling I don't want to have to dress up like I'm going to a club or wait for a lane (I'm looking at you, Star Lanes). My friends and I go almost every Tuesday for college night which is a great deal. We usually have a large group and they have always been able to accommodate us. Pros: never had to wait for lanes, cheap, decent selection of beers on draft for a bowling alley, good selection of bowling balls, and ample parking. Cons: some parts are in disrepair, staff is not always friendly, and people will smoke right outside the door so it comes into the building (yuck). read more

I joined a bowling league, and although I am the worst bowler in the league(honest truth) I enjoyed every night I bowled, and I signed up to bowl in the league again. I'm really not that much of a bowler. I don't understand the physics of it. I roll the ball down the lane, and it starts to veer to the left or to the right and then in the gutter. Then it gets to the end and doesn't knock down any pins. Then I get mad and start to curse. That said, hanging out with friends at a bowling alley can be a good time. And even if the bowling alley in question is kind junky looking, you can still have a good time. Stones Bowling Lanes (or Stones) does have that junky look. And if you go with the right friends (and buy enough beer) you can have that good time too. The facilities itself is nothing impressive. The carpets are faded, worn, and certainly doesn't have that "vacuumed-all-that-often" look. Some of the monitors are on the fritz as well as some of the lanes themselves. Food is the type of mediocre quality you'll find at any other bowling alley, with prices to match. Located right down the road from Xavier University, Stone's offers College Nights. Apparently there are other special occasions that they host, but I don't know what they are. All I know is that it's a pretty average bowling alley. Mahalo, and bowl. read more

Visited on a Saturday afternoon with 4-5 other families which included at least 10 kids under the age of five. The kids were entertained by the bumper bowling (lots of balls were stuck on the lanes and the staff were more than helpful with assisting the kiddos. Thx!) The music was loud, which I didn't appreciate at first, but then realized that I couldn't hear any of the kids crying or screaming as their hands got smashed in the ball return area. They offered cold beer by the pitcher (premium stuff like Three Floyd's Gumball) and bucket (yuenglings, Budweiser's, etc). And they serve food, including pizza which was a bonus. read more

I lean forward and give this alley 4 Stars. It isn't the best place I've bowled but is sufficient. I went on a Sunday night where they had shoes and the lane for as much as you can bowl for 2 hours for $25. This is pretty good. When I was there, they had part of the place closed down which included the pool table which was the original reason for going. Closing off part of the area really makes it 3 stars, but I figure that was unique for that evening. read more

Stones is a fun, old school bowling alley. I would not recommend showing up here on a weekend night after 7 PM, if you want to actually get some games in. The staff can be un-accommodating, we were told we are not allowed to type our own names into the computer, they had to do it for us, NO NICKNAMES allowed. Um, okay? On the upside, the drinks are really cheap, so you can bowl and get pretty drunk for about 30$. Don't come hungry unless you're into frozen, cafeteria pizza. read more

Although in an interesting part of the neighborhood, Stone lanes has surpassed Madison Bowl in my mind and is my new favorites bowling alley. Prices are way cheaper, and college night is only $8 for 3 games and shoes. Also, good beer on tap, which is never a bad thing in my mind. My husband and I enjoyed a pitcher of Great Lakes Elliot Ness while I beat him to a pulp on the bowling alley. Went here after work for a co-workers birthday and we had a great time. We went with 6 people, but two more co-workers arrived after we began bowling. The staff was friendly and able to get them added to our games. Wasn't an issue at all with that. We used two lanes and one of the lanes had continual issues. At first it was scoring every frame as a spare. And then it stopped returning balls. The staff worked with us and helped every time. They also refunded one of our games, because the group that played on that lane was unable to get thru both of the games that we paid for. We went on a Wednesday night and it got very busy. We did not know about making reservations and wish they had stressed that more on their website. We got there about 5:30 and were told that they only had room for us until 7:15. It ended up being fine, but wish we would have known. Also probably would have cared less about the one lane being difficult if we had unlimited time to complete our games. Over all, we had a lot of fun, the bar was well stocked, we didn't eat food there but everyone else seemed to be enjoying the food. We were a little worried that it might be sketchy, but it was exactly what we were looking for in a bowling alley. read more

Quite possibly the best company I have ever bowled with. Unfortunately, the worst service bowling alley in the history of life. The blond bob-haired lady at the front desk in glasses is one you may likely encounter. She may in fact be Hitler incarnate but as she's screws you will be proud to let you know she's a manager. However, the rest of the staff is charming, endearing and quite personable. Cheap bowling, and a good time. Stay away from scarface. She's a scary mother f*cker and will dock your bowling time if you join a lane late. I'd come back. The beer is cheap and the pizza takes two hours. It could be worse. read more

Been to Stones plenty a late night and had a fine bowling alley experience but tonight was a let down. (Though hilarious). We walked in at 11:54, see 3 young men behind the counter who mysteriously disappeared as we traversed the corridor towards the counter. We stand for about 3 minutes and I call out "hello!?". A young man pops up whack a mole style from behind the shoe counter and says "hold on, be right there" disappears into the back room, and come out saying "hate to be the bearer of bad news but we are closed". I retort... I thought you closed at 1am? And he says "uhhhh, what time is it". 11:57 pm! I chipperly reply. "Hold on". He says. *Returns to back room* (sorry you got short straw bud) We wave the white flag, not SO committed to bowling to ruin the night for these fellas clearly committed to closing down early. Another young gentleman comes out and says "Madison Bowl is open 24 hrs. *Shrug*" Unfortunately, one is walking distance, one is not. Poor show of service, disappointed that we couldn't get a game in with over an hour left of operation but good hustle boys. ‍ read more

Bowling Alleys are one of the most simple creations in the history of all creation. They need to accomplish only a few goals: 1) Be cheap 2) Serve beer that is cheap 3) Serve food that starts out frozen comes out slightly less frozen and allows your stomach to form a base for more cheap beer 4) Make you feel like you are going back in time 5) Cheap Stone Lanes accomplishes all of the criteria above, which in my terrible opinion, makes this a great place to knock down some pins. In terms of pricing, I went with a group that usually bowls on Thursdays. For 12 dollars I got three games and a pair of shoes. I don't know how that is possible, but hey to quote Steve Winwood, just roll with it baby. The configuration is a little weird. It is in the shape of an L, with 25 lanes on one side and about 15 on the other. For whatever reason, the 15 lanes went cosmic at a certain point in the evening. Again, see Mr Winwood on how to react. There are two spacious bars. One next to the cosmic lanes is filled with tvs and cheap draft beers, with a Miller being about $3.00 and better beers slightly more. A bucket I believe was about 10 bucks. If you want food, you have to go to the bar by the bathrooms. And finally, like all good bowling alleys and most parts of Norwood, it doesn't seem like this place has changed all that much since the 1990s. It is filled with misc sports junk on the walls from every college team that people in the Tri-State root for, and even Cardinals stuff which is pretty weird. So with all that said, it might not be a Bowl-A-Rama, but you will be bowled over by the prices and ambiance. So act like its 1998 and put on your Pin Pals jacket and head one over and roll some turkeys with your pals. read more

The "Stones Stench" is no more...since the smoking ban went into effect in Ohio, Stones has really cleaned up it's odor problem. We visit Stones strictly on College Nights, Tuesdays starting at 9:30PM. College Night is a great deal, for $8.00, students can get three games of bowling and a shoe rental. The bowling alley has a fully stocked bar and they always feature different shot, cocktail, and beer specials to woo the crowd into staying for extra games. Pitchers of beer are the standard at Stones, they're big and cheap. Pizza isn't too bad at Stones, better than you'd expect from a whole-in-the-wall bowling establishment. Stones Lanes offers birthday party programs and is available to be completely rented out for corporate events. I know many Xavier students who have attended "Meet the Company" nights at Stones and have made valuable career connections. Parking is never a problem; there is a huge lot behind the tiny bowling alley. Friday & Saturday nights Stones hosts a "glow" bowling event that I have never personally partaken in, but visitors get two hours of unlimited bowling as well as a free shoe rental for $15. read more

I always have a good time here, the bowling prices are reasonable and they have some great drink deals. It might be a bit run down, but that's half the fun of a bowling alley. The shoes are clean, the only downfall is if you have big feet. My friend ended up getting one 10 and one 12 because they didn't have enough large shoes for him. The only reason I considered giving this establishment 4 or less stars is the management. The manager was excessively rude to us for no apparent reason on multiple occasions. They always have craft beer on tap and the jukebox is controllable through the touchtone app on your phone. The ball selection (haha ball selection) here is much better than Madison Bowl and coupled with the beer selection, it's definitely my preferred alley in the area. read more

First time to these lanes. It is to be the last time as well. It was league night, so we got put in the lanes that don't work. We constantly had problems with the lanes we were on. They would stop working in the middle of a frame, and it would take the staff 10 minuets to get them working again. Half of that time was spent looking for an employee. The "old lanes" are controlled by the staff when they are there. There were 10-12 if us. The food orders were wrong a lot, not to mention that one of the guys never got his food. To make matters worse, was the bartender dipping. As I'm paying my tab, the bartender pulls a spit can off of the fountain drink machine behind the bar, spit in it, and put it back over where he fills drinks. GROSS!!! Something tells me that the health department wouldn't approve. The only reason they got a star from me at all, was because I still had a great time with my friends. read more
