They need more employees. If the the store closes at 10pm why is the deli department closed at 8:30 pm.

They seem to be building up their stock of organic produce. Their lead cashiers, employees are very rude and disrespectful. The store often stinks of rotten food. There are frequent fights and weed smoking in the parking lot at all hours of the day. It's the most ghetto Stop & Shop I've been to. If you can shop somewhere else I suggest you do so. read more

The store closes at 10 pm. It was 9:55 & i walking to store just to pick up a loaf of bred. An elderly man who was pushing carts has his hands out as if i can't go in the store. Not only does the men's room smell shocking like old urine, you can easily get knocked out by the stench as you make your way down the hall on your way to the bathrooms. Every time I've been there over the past several years, the smell has never changed. I feel so embarrassed that the employees are forced to use that room. I typically drive all the way to West Hartford or Glastonbury to shop at Whole Foods.. partly because of Stop N Shop's lack of concern or caring. I only shop at Stop N Shop if I'm in a pinch. Their customer self checkout equipment is way out of date and virtually every time I check out, it requires me to wait for a live person to have an error resolved. One of the other problems is there are always people asking for money at the two entrances/exits...during the days, usually it is benign, Girl Scouts, Cancer research..but at night when it gets dark, you're faced with drug addicts pan handling. Even Walmart in Wallingford takes care of their bathroom. I'm not surprised to see that Stop and Shop has not even taken ownership of this Yelp page either. Side note- The pharmacy is run extremely well. The people are friendly and always send me text notifications right away after my script is filled. This is the only thing Stop and Shop has going for it currently. read more

The supermarket is well stocked and organized. I found a large variety of foods, and was especially pleased with their produce department. However the deli display was dirty and that entire area was rather dingy. I recommend going to the Stop & Shop in Wallingford just a few miles away to take advantage of their convenient 'scan as you shop' option. read more

just like your nearest Albertsons, Ralphs or Vons --- except the meat/steak is cheaper in price however the fresh fruits and veggies are more expensive than Cali. Looking at some of the reviews for the past four years are indicative that this chain, its manager, and employees care little about 1) the quality of anything 2) you the consumer 3) I can't even think of what they actually care about. My issues with this Stop and Shop are simple, the quality of their food is horrible. I have seen chicken turning colors in the freezer, food about to expire, have had to drive BACK to return items I had bought after getting home to discover rotting (potatoes, onions, etc). The clientele does not affect me, I am from Brooklyn NYC however, expect to see people walking around in Spongebob Pajamas with Timberland construction boots on. (I have no idea who made up this stupid trend). So that may be worth a laugh. The employees? I will stop there. (Have nothing good, don't say anything). Outside of the florist, and me buying rotisseries chickens on Fridays for my dogs (and that isn't a joke), I avoid this place like the plague, and that's not just because I fear its clients and or food might give me the plague, this has got to be the worst supermarket not only in Meriden, but perhaps in CT as a whole. Unfortunately I had to give this place one star otherwise it'd been a zero. Not a bad one to go to. Parking is atrocious and getting in and out of the place is risky. Clientele scares the hell out of me. Especially in the parking lot. Florists are very friendly and always helped me with the bouquets. Cashiers and staff are rude and should be avoided. Isles are clean and food is easy to find if you are a regular, but a confusing layout if it is your first time. If you live in Meriden, the West main street location is much better. Being a super, this place has a lot of merchandise, but I have been to other supers and I prefer them over this location. read more

Never felt so discriminated against by one of the employees who ASSUMED we stole a 5 gallon jug of water..SMH...she needs to be fired if shes using bad judgement like that...she asked for my receipt and scanned the water as if i hadnt already scanned it .when i told her i scanned it she went back and checked ...realizibg that i had already scanned it she didnt say a word not even an apology.will never visit this stop n shop AGAIN. read more

It's a supermarket with some of the most unfriendly and unhelpful employees.( try and make one smile, (If you find one who will actually look at you) OR, do they not HAVE enough employees? (Especially cashiers) Try finding an employee to ask where to find a product.. Go ahead, try...no one? .... try again, really? How about that MANAGER(?) lady at the front end who wont help when all the checkout lane lights are flashing? What exactly is she doing except counting coupons? I dont know. I stop in the store this morning- 2nd time since the union came to a tentative agreement since the strike. I noticed that prices on a few items that I selected we're elevated. I see that the consumer is gonna pay the price for the lost revenue. Thanks Stop & Shop! read more

Horrible customer service. My sister and I went to this store and she is on crutched. Not only were none of their motor scooters charged but when a self check wasn't working it took nearly 20 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us after several people informed them. I love them there produce is always fresh and not bad on pricing. They have a wonderful seafood selection that is amazingly bright and fresh every time. They have great sales every week and their all sale isle is great I love that isle most of all! The cashiers are so friendly, polite and helpful and my groceries are always bagged. read more

Super dirty, the employees are very rude and not very sanitary at all! One even walked outside to smoke with his apron on, and took gloves out of his pocket and put them on! GROSS!! Last time I went there were 5 meats out of code and the meat employee couldn't care less. The only reason I gave this 2 stars is its good on a budget. It's nice to know that Meriden has another choice for grocery stores now. There are times that I have been disgusted by the condition of the deli area at Stop and Shop. The slicers are not clean and the people working behind the counter need to know how to properly handle the food. I also question the appearance of some of the help as well.....hair needs to be tied back. read more

Yeah. Definitely not the best supermarket but one of the closest. And I think that's why it is so often ridiculously busy. I try not to go here if I have much choice. Management should work on hiring more people/ or more appropriate people to keep things flowing and improve the quality of the store. read more
