Fun fact: Stop and Shop (in Rhode Island) was my first job as a teenager; it's come a long way since then. They now offer employee discount and a higher starting wage. This particular S&S is really new and high-tech looking. They have better self scan systems and handheld self scanners. I recommend using the self scanners to save on time; just make sure you have a stop and shop card. The self scan kioks were a little finicky but once you're used to it, it runs smoothly; they have security in place and alerts the employees of any issues. The employees at the self checkouts were very helpful. They still have the S&S card, you can easily sign up at the service desk or online, to get sale items. If you don't have a card, just ask the employee to scan one for you. The service provided by the other employees there on our recent trip was good; deli and seafood counters specifically. The aisles were organized and fully stocked; the prices were average to above average (it's no Aldi). My kids were very entertained by the robot roaming around! (And so were we) We surely didn't have that back in the early 2000's; we've come a long way with technology. Parking was plentiful and when we went (Friday evening) it was quiet. They got rid of their bottle redemption machines and went with the "Clynk" vendor. There is a "Clynk" app on your phone that is supposed to work to redeem your cans/bottles. However the app doesn't work with Android phones. Go to the Clynk.ct app reviews and you will see all the Android phone users who are complaining. Hello I have a discrimination complaint the stop and shop on Simsbury CT has stop take back bottles that they have charged a deposit on. They are telling elderly people they to setup an account on a 3rd party website and scan the bags and deposit the bottles in a box and wait for the funds to be credited then transfer them back to their back account. A good amount of the elderly to not have smart cell phones some don't even have cell phones. Also this is discrimination against people that cannot afford cell phones. PS they just told my elderly neighbor that has me once a month take her her bottles to Farmington because Simsbury won't take they will no longer take their OWN deposit slips from the store that currently redeem bottles. By Connecticut State law, the retailer shall not refuse to accept any empty beverage containers of the kind, size and brand sold by the dealer, or refuse to pay to such person the refund value of a beverage container. Per CT State law, dealers or person who engages in the sale of the beverage are required to take back the brands that they carry. If a brewery or specialty vendor/retailer sells a particular brand, kind and size of soda, beer, water, etc., they must redeem those containers. read more

Barely any staffed registers open but you've got 4 team members hanging out at the end of the self check area and instead of helping customers they're socializing and talking about moose and lakes and whatever else. What an embarrassment this place has become. As a kid I worked here and the store manager today used to be our boss at Big Y (formerly finest) and back then none of us would have gotten away with standing around and not working like I see all the time now at this store. July 4th sale on lobsters ($9.99) and tons of managers specials - burger meet, wings, hot dogs. Be aware that while you'll save a few dollars buying the precooked lobsters and lower mess, the vats here are so big and hot they must flash cook them! This is a store I visit frequently. I do like the new look after a major face lift, but felt the old store was fine, and $ could have been saved. The store selection is great, the new coffee shop corner is wonderful, and who needs Starbucks??? The produce section is my favorite, so are ALL the employees. Everyone wants to help, staff is friendly. Who doesn't like a tap on the shoulder from an employee you have not seen in a while and a hug. One man in produce is from Texas and knows my daughter is at school in TX and always says how Y'all doing? I love the atmosphere. One tip: Deli counter has a great selection of pre cut cold cuts, but if you need something that is not pre cut wait can be 20min, as it was for me this past Saturday. Otherwise A+ read more

Even with a Big Y and a Shop Rite nearby, we consistently end up here every Sunday. Sure, there are better buys at the competitors every once in a while, but because of their overall consistency, this is where we end up. Bakery is usually stocked with muffins, rolls, etc. The meat department is large with some good values. Frozen food section is immense. Produce and salad bar are very dependable, even if the salad bar isn't always stocked early on the weekends. Dairy section is good with lots of yogurts at sale prices just about every week. Friendly folks at the Pharmacy too. They have a bargain aisle, and some marked down racks for the bargain hunters. Lines can get a bit crazy at times, but the front people are personable and you get a bagger most of the time. Bonus points for carrying the New York Post all the time. One pet peeve of mine, you used to get a nickel credit for every bag you brought with you. Not anymore. read more

I would like to say that I have been shopping at Stop and Shop in Simsbury for years, the staff has been great and the selection very good. it is my go - to grocery. Since the pandemic occurred I have felt safer with the new earlier hours. I don't want to ever think about the six am opening hours going away, I love that I can get the shopping over with and start my day earlier. This is my everyday go-to grocery store for all of my shopping needs. I like this place because they keep up with modern technology as they offer grocery delivery and pickup via Peapod online ordering, and they have a self-scanning system that allows you to take a device around the store and scan as you go to help expedite the shopping experience. It works really well and definitely saves us the hassle of waiting in lines. More importantly, if you have a Stop and Shop card, you will save a good deal of money, and will even get gas points which will allow you to get discounts on your Shell gasoline purchases. I had my first experience using the Peapod delivery service from Stop & Shop today. They offered 15 dollars off our first order and free shipping for the next 60 days. Peapod also provides web only specials, including some that are in the regular store weekly circular. I found the online shopping experience to be fairly easy and intuitive. You can shop by section, including organic, which is important in my house. Stop & Shop has Nature's Promise private labeled brand, which is good, but not up to the same quality we find at Whole Foods with their 365 brand. I found the checkout total to be helpful in keeping my order total in check, something that is not easy to do when in the store. I also found that shopping online made me less inclined to make impulse purchases that often happen in the store. I had concerns about ordering items that you would normally want to select on your own, specifically produce and meat/seafood items. When our deliver arrived, it was very much on the scheduled time and my concerns over quality were alleviated. I look forward to my next order. With my items purchased history saved for future orders, it should make for a quick order the next time. Overall, I was very satisfied with the service. read more

Ok, this happened a few months ago, but since I'm on a roll with finishing up places I've checked into and have been to, and meaning to get to, this is another one of those. I've been shopping here (mostly) since I moved to the area. Now, when grocery shopping, I really don't need much help finding anything, or well I'm a chef, I can manage right? So, I've been to the deli a few times, very friendly staff behind those counters! But, I have to add this little bit. It was just after the deli was closed (I didn't know what time they closed, I rarely ever go someplace at or near closing time), and they were doing some work back there, and the person informed me that they closed 5 minutes ago and were just starting to clean up, I told them it was ok and I could wait till the next day, he still took my order and filled it, no complaints, just a smile. I try to avoid grocery shopping, so if my complaint is severe, you'll have that to fall back on. I really don't like having to trudge through a huge store for a few things that I want. Why there are aisles of "seasonal" crap that is just going to be marked down and shoved in a corner somewhere, I'll never understand. Just groceries, please. Yeah, like the way Trader Joe's does it. On the plus side, there is a whole area devoted to organic, trendy products like Hint water and organic almond butter. This is the largest collection of say, Annie's vegetarian soup and chili, and actually my only reason for going to a Stop&Shop - sorry - SUPER Stop&Shop. Probably I should stop there in my shopping and go elsewhere for the rest of the things I need. But I just don't like shopping that much, as previously noted, so I generally go for a one-stop-get-everything-you-need event. They DO carry lots of kinds of vegetarian soup (you can trust Annie's, you don't have to read the fine print like other brands - no meat, no crap in there) not available at the other markets in the area, even the high fallutin' ones. But the rest of the experience is not fun. Starting with the "In Store Radio Network with loud, annoying stupid mindless pre-recorded yammering" with live inserts from their drunken overly friendly slurred-word meat-hocking butcher shop, the experience is just plain hard to take. Really, I want to get out of there as fast as possible, and I'm pretty sure that's the opposite of the effect those admen want their efforts to have. They've narrowed some of their aisles, so if you happen to be there on a day when their usually angry shelf-stockers are working on primping the shelves, you'll have to wait to get down an aisle. The times I've just turned around sprinted up another aisle - I can't count. Other times, you can be sure you'll encounter a mother with screaming unruly children or a couple of zombies fully engaged in a shouting matching on their cell phone staggering up the aisle and smashing into you. In general, the staff is angry. I presume that's because they're paid about 1% better than WalMartians, but I have no knowledge. It's just hard to take and frankly makes me want to avoid the place. Where the angry is best expressed is at check out. I'm a fool for the registers actually manned with humans, you know, so jobs can be maintained, but the experience makes me wonder whether we shouldn't just go with robots or self-scanning. This store, like others, has as many self-checkouts as ones with human cashiers, and I guess there's a reason for that. First, the etiquette of grocery check-outs is this: HAVE your loyalty ready! Get the shit out of your cart, fast, piled neatly! Place the divider baton between your order so the next person doesn't have to wait. Don't leave crap on the bottom of your cart! I follow that etiquette to the letter, every time. Plus I bring my own ample supply of bags. This is where the problem usually starts. Are the baggers angry that I have bags from other stores? Well, pay attention Stop& Shop: if you had decently-designed sturdy and attractive bags, I'd buy yours. Otherwise, I'm going to keep throwing the WholeFoods and TJs cool-looking bags in your face. Get used to it. At least you don't have to supply me with those wretched pollution tools (plastic bags) or god forbid, an actual paper grocer bag. I have gotten into more tiffs with baggers than I can count. Are you guys paid by the number of bags you fill? Because even though I repeatedly plead with you to "pack the bags full" - you put three items in each bag. If I bring 10 large tote bags in, you're gonna fill those 10 bags, even if you have to fill them with receipts and coupons because I didn't buy enough groceries to actually fill more than 2 bags. And if I dare to move an item from a bag to another bag, to consolidate, or say, to keep the 5 frozen food items in one bag (I know, that's too complicated) - it's unbelievable. I've seen baggers repeatedly snatch the items and replace them where they were before, as if I didn't know how to bag my own groceries. Or as if by placing items in the bags myself I'm questioning their bagging authority. It would be funny if it weren't done in anger and bitterness. I wonder whether the real reason isn't that they've been told that people with their own bags are trying to put one over on the store: that is, shoplift by putting items in their supplied bags and trying to get out with them. Yeah, right. I bought $200 worth of groceries and I'm trying to lift a toothbrush. You guys have cameras and security drones, why don't you follow ppl with their own bags around the store? And BTW, you also have self-scanners that require ppl to bag their items as they go through the store. So really...what's your problem? I like to think I'm pretty chill, but everytime I come to your store I lose my cool. read more

This review is one of my better experiences at Stop&Shop. Most days, this place could easily be a 1 or a 2. There was 1 cash register open with 4 people working at it at some points. There was a lot of people using self checkout because of this, that would have perfered to use the check out line. Like always, the prices are on the higher side, but there are really good deals scattered around the store. The workers at the store are usually nasty, but today they weren't as bad as usual. This rating is specific to the butcher counter in the meat department. Bought pre-made burgers at the butcher counter, 2 with bacon and cheese, 2 with I think Cajun or carribean spices. When I used the fork to make an indentation in the center, the burger stuck to the fork and I had to pry it off - a terribly gluey substance in there. I expected that the burgers would be all beef with either spices or bacon and cheese added - instead there must have been some filler or something added to them. In addition, there was so much grease when grilling them, they had to be less than 75/25 -- and they tasted terrible - I threw them away. What a waste of time, money, and having to make something different. Never Again ! read more

I've been coming to this Stop and Shop for years and the service is usually so-so but today's experience at the Deli was one of the worst I've ever had. I pulled a ticket like everyone else, number 128. I heard number 126 get called, then number 127, then 129. I was confused, thinking maybe some staff do the odd numbers other do the evens, so I waited. Then they called number 130, at this point I walked up to the staff and showed them that I had 128 and that I think they had skipped me. Instead of acknowledging the issue and apologizing they decided to tell the person behind that I "apparently had 128." After this the staff member, James, was rude and frankly racist, not treating me the same way other customers were, e.g. did not ask my if the meat was cut to my liking, did not ask me if I needed any additional orders, and also gave me the wrong meats. I am of Indian descent and I can tell you after this experience that this was clear racism and rudeness. Next time I go, I refused to be serviced by that employee. read more

Have shopped here for years. No complaints until now. The past 6 to 8 months have become steadily worse with lack of check out lines being open. Just before Thanksgiving I arrived at 9 am to pick up a large florist order that had been pre-ordered. No one there. Had to wait 15 minutes for the girl who was sent to check people out up in front. Then went to Bakery to pick up pre-ordered cakes. Again, no one around anywhere. Other people were also waiting for help. Guess what, that person was filling in at the main check out lines too. Just got back home from another bad experience. They have doubled the amount of self check out lines. Only 2 cashiers. 1 bagger. Lines of people waiting. AWFUL!!! I feel bad for the workers. A nice woman employee told me the only thing to do is complain on line. Otherwise, no one will do anything. I am ready to go to Shop-Rite up the street. Instead of getting people to help out they are cutting employees. I understand a problem with less checkers once in a while but this is going from BAD to WORSE. read more
