We go up and down with our feelings about Stop and Shop. The one we frequent in Litchfield comes in for regular criticism for its pricing and unavailable items, and praise for its mostly helpful, friendly staff. Our visit to Unionville SaS was a bit surprising. The store is twice as large as Litchfield with commensurately more items filling the shelves. We liked the large produce section. Pricewise we bought hot dogs and buns, priced similarly to Litchfield, but some canned goods were cheaper here. There's lots of room to move around, and we found help when needed. The store appeared clean, and we had no issues inside. Lots of parking outside, sadly with drivers who insist on hurtling through the area as if it's a racetrack. This Unionville Stop and Shop is located in a plaza right in the bustling downtown. Parking was plentiful and the store was clean and organized. It's updated like the other S&S's nearby. The prices were also comparable and the customer service was cordial. On this trip, I wanted to get a small tub of Willow Tree Chicken salad and it was on sale for $9.99, which was $1 off from the original price. The sushi was fresh and tasty; I saw the chef working on the rolls. The croissants from the bakery were soft and scrumptious. They had plenty of self checkouts; my only qualm with those, is that they're very sensitive. Everytime I use them at any Stop and Shop, an associate will always be alerted by the machines to assist me. Overall, it's a standard grocery store and comparable to other Stop and Shops. read more

A convenient stop if you're in Unionville and need a drink or grocery run later in the evening. At some point it feels like they may have added aisles because it feels cramped, even though there were empty spots on the shelves (oh that supply chain...). Terrible. Forbid you ever forget something accidentally. as I checked out on service line 1, a kind lady flagged me down to remind me that I had left a product without knowing. Didn't even say hello, how are you doing? Or even a simple hi, environment is negative. The service line cashier laughed and said "haha, I wouldn't have ran to let you know." So you mean to say that you're willing to just charge me for a product I never received? Not even have the decent or moral value to be an honest person and at least make an effort to give the person the item they PURCHASED? it's not about money, necessity, or anything minuscule. It's about being an honest and good human being... the principle is, someone rightfully pays for something, you rightfully give them that benefit. We work hard for our lives and what we pay for. For you to make a nasty, malicious comment like that is sickening. Trust is valuable and I DO NOT TRUST this shop and shop for any reason now. Thanks for ruining my overall experience. read more

The quality of the flowers has consistently gone downhill. No longer a true floral department. Last bouquet I purchased withered within a day or so. Husband bought tulips - 4 of them had breaks in the stem and the rest have flopped over ... and not in a good way. Didn't last one day. Live less than 5 minutes away, will never buy their flowers again. read more

The fruit and vegetables in produce are frequently stale or passed their prime. This has been the case for years. Tossing food out a day or two after purchase gets expensive. There are often too few cashiers at the front of the store. My grocery selections are generally large enough to make the self-check out option impractical. I'm going elsewhere! read more

If I could give negative stars to the meat and seafood counters I would. The store itself is OK, decent selection of the basic boxed and frozen stuff but the meat and seafood selection are just horrible. I literally drove to another store so I could get something to cook for dinner since the options were so poor in this store. There is another, smaller, stop and shop in West Hartford I go to once in a while and they have amazing meat and seafood in a far older store. Do the people of Unionville not eat meat or seafood? Somehow I doubt that is the case. Please, Stop and Shop, improve the selection and quality in this store so I don't have to shop at Big Y. You may be the only game in Unionville but I will drive elsewhere instead of settling for what you are pushing in this location. read more

I shopped here a lot. Its just a typical grocery store, I don't know why people dislike it. The main thing I like about it is the old-fashioned feeling it has; allowing high school kids to get there first start there instead of hiring cheap foreign labor. Pretty decent by my standards. read more

Just when I thought this store couldn't get any worse, it did. With the new remodel all of the specialty foods such as organic gluten free, etc. are sandwiched in with other foods and impossible to locate. The store is much cleaner than it was but I'll be using Shop Rite from now on. read more

New to the area when I made the initial post. Best I can say is management results at this location are consistent. Pricing is an occasional but too often issue at this location, "Sale" price not reflected in check out price. Regulatory & legal issues on this point. Customer service associates seem bothered when this is bought to their attention. Bottle return equipment frequently out of service. Cashier associates frequently eating snacks, drinking beverages. Regulatory and or Health Dept. issue? Dairy case continues to be a mess due to leaking packaging. Best thing going here are the guys that corral carts in the parking lot. Polite, hard working in all weather. Most of my shopping now is at Shop Rite, Canton. I use the Unionville S&S as a convenience store due to location when I am too lazy to drive ten minutes up the road. Ahold, owner of S&S, must have forgotten they own this store. They have fine operations in other parts of the US & Europe. read more

Please don't ever buy any "fresh" fruit from here. The blueberries and strawberries are all old and after one day in the fridge they go bad. Sometimes moldy within two days. Or they will look ok but then they will taste like rocks. It seems like they will just put anything out there to make a quick buck. read more

This used to be a great store until recently. Checkout counters are consistently understaffed and lines are long, even during non-peak hours.. Checkout clerks need frequent assistance from supervisors, which will delay your visit. Management staff exhibits poor customer service attitude. I hope that corporate will straighten out this mess. Missing many types of foods for both humans and pets. They do not carry parakeet seed or seeds for any domesticated bird. Looks like your parrot will be eating off of your plate. The seafood is average, the meats are average, the health foods are average. The one thing that is way above average-is the pricing. Usually plenty of parking except on weekends. The S&S on Farmington Ave has been my go to for about five years. Lately when I've been shopping here a lot of the employees have been unfriendly more so the depts. No one greeting you or asking if you need help. You go up front to pay only 1 to 2 cashiers with no bagger. Recently I went in on a Wednesday morning went to check out it was after 9am I saw Connie standing around chatting with a cashier instead of pitching in to help bag my groceries or other customers groceries - I see a lot of staff upfront just chatting instead of bagging groceries. Hire more employees! So customers don't have to bag their groceries - so sick of hearing " oh we don't have a bagger " or oh where short staffed today " get supervisors, and managers to get off their butts and bag when busy or if they see a customer bagging - it's not the customers job to bag their groceries. Also it doesn't hurt to be cordial to customers and ask if they need help - tired of seeing supervisors and managers bullshitting instead of seeing if they have to help with checkout or bagging read more
