Reasons your cat may not get spayed or neutered...you bring them in a dirty crate, it's a surgery not a day trip! If you cant take the time and clean it, then you'll have to take your cat home. If your cat pukes or craps in its crate on the way...you get to clean it once inside. If your cat gets loose YOU need to catch it and return to its crate...volunteers dont chase your pet. If you dont show for your appt day and time, and dont call 24 hours in advance, you won't be rescheduled or refunded. You call and cant get an appointment, sorry limited spots available, we have no control when sold out. Read the paperwork you fill out and bring back...and the take home instructions. STOP is a wonderful organization and we adopted a cat there recently. STOP is a small local cat rescue that takes in and cares for cats that other shelters would put down, missing leg, eye, neurological or just emaciated and sick. it saddens to make this review but the run around i have dealt with not only from this establishment but others in the area as well, this one really upset me. I had called Friday 7/21/23 about a kitten we were interested in adopting. The lady working told me that the kitten was available that we could stop in anytime to see the kitten before filling out the application. That afternoon we stopped in and instantly fell i love with the kitten! I had advised the ladies that we looked about adopting somewhere else but we're told our application was denied for having an un neutered male dog! the lady advised that wouldn't be a problem and proceeded to tell us that we could fill out an application for adoption. Let's just stop here for a second if they needed proof of our dog being neutered and we told them he wasn't, why tell us we could fill out an application! HOWEVER, they make exceptions for "rare" dog breeds and an AKC full blood standard poodle is not considered to be anything special according to them! Next, let's move on to the vet issue! I called my vet to contact this establishment Friday 7/21/23 which they did! However, because my dog isn't up on vaccinations and heart worm which he has an appointment scheduled for 8/12/23 they want to make it sound like we neglect our dog and don't take proper care of our dog! Our dog is apart of a strict contract-bound agreement, in a breeding program where he has to be up to date on vaccinations, etc. Sorry, we use a reputable vet in town and that's the soonest they can get him in for his yearly! But because I don't make frequent visits to the vet besides his yearly we're not "fit" to adopt from them. I'm sorry I have a healthy 3 year old poodle who doesn't need to go to the vet unless it's for updated vaccinations! Although, we told them this and they said if we have an appointment card that's a different story, go ahead and call my vet and see we're on the books for 8/12/2023. I love the idea of these shelters to be able to provide homes for animals that don't have a fair chance at life! However, the lack of communication was awful. If the neutering was an issue then why continue to have us fill out an application for adoption? I know they stand for stop the over population of pets but when in history has a dog ever impregnated a cat? also all their cats are to come spayed? So I am very confused. This place is not fit to house all these cats, they need adopted but yet deny a very applicable applicant for reasons that just don't make sense; because we don't have "special breed" un neutered dog according to these volunteers! The unprofessional behavior of these volunteers that have to deal with the public, maybe they should have a more intensive application for volunteers to run this establishment. These poor cats have to share bowls, others locked in pet carriers, and dirty litter boxes throughout the home they are in. I feel sorry for the environment these cats are living in, waiting to be adopted into a loving and clean home. We went out bought cat litter, litter box, food, food bowls, toys, a carrier to transport the kitten in; 100s of dollars that now have no use for! HORRIBLE experience! We found an adorable little cat Blue Violet on www.petfinder.com. We had been looking for a new kitty to join our family after our 18 year old kitty passed away. So, I email the lady and request an 'application' per her post. She eventually sends me one and I filled it out and returned it that same day. My husband called to ask if she had received it and if we could come see the cat. She rudely barks at him that the application process takes several days and that she is too busy with other customers to talk to him and he needs to call back later. He tried calling back several times with no answer. She had already told him they were open until 7 so we make the unfortunate decision to drive the hour there that evening to check out the cat before we attempt to pursue it since it will obviously be a lengthy process. So once we finally locate this little house we are confronted with a cat pee stench like no other I've ever experienced. We soldier on in the 'house' and see dozens of cats allll over the place. They did seem content and cared for I will admit. When she finally comes out and approaches us my husband says Hello we are Greg and Lora and we called earlier and sent an application about a cat you have.. she cuts him off and yells I KNOW!!!! Oh um well ok then. So um can we SEE the cat? pause... heavy sigh.. pause.. GRRR well i GUESS SO! wow awkward right? So she take us into another room with another few dozen cats.. we see the one we were asking to adopt.. ask her, is this Blue Violet? Completely IGNORES us... mind you, we are in a 12x12 bedroom all together. She begins to violently clean out the littler box while we wonder IS this the kitty? ask her again.. ignores us again. Um ok so I pick it up and hold it and tell Greg aww so sweet.. little punkin! just loved it. She ignores. She continues to 'clean' this box for several minutes. I have had cats and I can tell you it does not take 25 minutes to clean out a litter box.. the hell? So we finally say ok well thank you and I guess we will just go. She growls. woww. So we leave.. at this point Greg is determined we are not getting any cat from this nut job no matter what. Less than half an hour later I receive this email from her and this is a quote "Greg, Thank you for your interest in adopting Blue Violet, however you are not the type of person we are looking for to adopt one of our precious"babies." Thanks anyway." OMG! The TYPE of person?? We had a cat for 18 years that we doted on and adored.. this lady is a NUT and a CAT HOARDER! We are also not circus freaks.. he is a principal and I am a Realtor. We got a good laugh out of being told we are unfit to adopt a homeless cat.. LOL. Save yourself the trip to this place, save yourself from enduring the stench of cat piss (my hair still smells like it) and keep on looking. Hopefully there is not some crazy cat lady black list banning us from all adoption attempts but we will keep looking.. lol.. Oh, I almost forgot to mention she wanted $189 for the cat IF we would've been approved.. .LOL read more

I really have no idea what to say. Reviews elsewhere warn people of the cats here, mainly their poor health and poor conditions they live in. I went all over the city and the surrounding areas looking for the perfect companion for our one year old maine coon kitten. The drive took us an hour but it was worth it to meet little Lilly, her name before I will not say. This rescue is in a home and there are 2 bedrooms off the living area full of cats. One room was for sick cats and the other for non sick cats. We were greeted rather coldly and soon realized the lady here, who I assume runs the place, is a very sarcastic woman who loves to remind people of how much she hates her job and never gets a day off. There was my first sign. I told her who I was and who I was there to see & eventually (nothing here is done quickly) she brought the kitten to me, who (size wise) I thought was 2 months old. She was just as adorable as her picture and my husband had his mind set almost immediately. The ladies here didnt ask if we had questions, they didn't offer information on this kitten, they didnt even tell us if she had her shots or if anything was ever wrong with her. 15 mins later, still being ignored we left. We came back a week later to ask questions. Turns out she was hit by a car, had her jaw & arm broken, and was actually 5 months old. Mind you this kitten was a under 4lbs and beyond frail. I thought for sure she was a new kitten to this rescue and hadn't had time to fatten up yet. Nope. I informed the lady there, Diane, that I had a vet appointment the following week for her already scheduled and that she would receive whatever care was needed to get her better. She was shocked. She told me, rather bluntly that the kitten was fine, had all her shots, and was negative for everything and then showed us her medical history. Keeping true to myself, I kept the appointment just in case it was needed. I've fostered in the past and I know just how sick kittens can be, even if properly cared for. One week passed and it was time for her to see the vet. I brought her in and gave them a list of symptoms for this kitten who I was told was not sick. The list: ear mites (her ears were BLACK!), tons of scratching (ears and whole body), way too thin esp for her age, dull eyes, swollen gums, poor appetite, bloody & green stool mixed with diarrhea, sneezing, and she wouldnt play and seemed rather terrified even after a week in my care. She wouldnt even eat if I was watching her. She wouldn't play, like I said, but this kitten was not use to human contact which was very strange since she had over a month with this lady at the shelter. There was no reason she wouldnt have been given proper attention and socialization. Right? The vet's verdic? She had a major ear mite problem and a severe ear infection that was never treated which caused her poor little ears to be filled with so many dead mite bodies that she was suffering with a horrible inner & outer ear infection. Ear drops for 2 weeks. She had a cold which would explain the sneezing. She has a very bad gum disease that was also never treated so her poor little gums were so swollen that she was not able to eat without pain, so she wasnt eating. This will be a problem forever now and she'll need cleanings for the rest of her life. Her poop was green and bloody due to a parasite known as Gilardia. Some people dont treat for this, but when it's in a severe stage it drains the life from animals, including humans and can cause death. Any food she was managing to eat was stolen from her for the fact that this parasite doesnt allow any nutrients to get to the animal. It latches itself to the intestinal walls, thus the blood in her stool, and reproduces itself causing a HUGE problem for me and my other pets. It's a VERY infectious illness that only gets better with some serious medication, so poor Lilly is stuck in a cage. Lately Lilly has been getting better slowly. The medicines she's on have given her eyes some color back and she's playful now. She even has interest in my older cat which is huge since she was also so terrified. Her little ears have been cleaned thoroughly and the drops seem to be helping the pain for her. This will be a long process and would have been very preventable if anyone cared to notice them, let alone made sure she was getting proper nutrition from the start. With such a poor diet she had no chance fighting off the diseases the other cats from here had. She came from the non sick room mind you. If you do not have the patience or money to fix a cat with (possibly) several problems you should look elsewhere. She does have a lot of cats who are very friendly but it's obvious she does not care for them like she claims. Half of these cats were clearly sick; sneezing, puffy oozing eyes, green diarrhea, etc. The other half dont look sick, but clearly are. Diane could be nicer too. I get my animals flea medication here and a good price. Two of our cats had got tapeworms I called two vets and two pet stores. Two places did not have the medication and one place was $20 for 1 pill. And another place 20 for 3 pills. I went her and got what I needed it was $5 for one pill. I was thankful cuz I was broke but needed my cat medication. read more

This place is horrible and I feel so sorry the the cats and kittens that are there. Most of them have something wrong with them...her words (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) said "they are ALL sick". I only saw 2 smaller bowls with food and no other help there. They leave the not as sick or not so noticeably sick ones out front, but when we asked to see more, she had us put a disinfectant squirt on our hands and took us into a closed room off the main room. These fur babies were more sick than the ones in the main room and the stench from the over-full litter box was sickening. There was a kitten there with "neurological" problems only weeks old that couldn't stand, had zero quality of life, was laying with legs splayed out and trying to get up. I had to leave...I could barely keep from screaming at her. She was setting up appointments for 2 kittens to be fixed with a couple and another couple were in another closed room to see the 2 cats they had inquired about earlier. I couldn't believe the deplorable conditions of the place and the fur babies. I would rather take my chances on the street than being kept there. Where do they get their funding? Why doesn't this place get closed and these people running it end up fined or jailed or something?? She said they have about 110 cats there in various rooms and the basement. And the people in Mansfield are grateful for their services?? Are you kidding me?? I am so angry I can't see straight. PLEASE someone HELP these poor babies!! read more

I contacted STOP regarding a kitten that was posted on petfinder.com. From the very first phone call, I was made to feel like I was bothering them by calling. Please note, it was not as if I stopped someone on the street and tried to steal their kitten (although that is how I was made to feel with every interaction I had with Diane), I was replying to an add that THEY had posted to find someone to adopt this kitten. I held my tongue because my daughter was so excited to meet and hopefully bring home Blue Lily. I sent an email as I was instructed to request an application for adoption. The only positive experience I had was that an application was sent to me very quickly. The response that I got back was very short. It read "What makes you think you want a kitten since you have never had one. Do you have a picture of your dog that you can send me?" I proceeded to send a very nice email back explaining that I had had cats as a young girl and that my daughter loves animals and was old enough now to help with the responsibility of having a cat. I sent multiple pictures of our little dog, showing how much we love him and our family. I didn't hear anything back. I called later that night to see if we could possibly come pick up the kitten the next day. I was told by Diane in a very demeaning manor that I would have to wait to hear back via email. We waited anxiously all the next day... Finally I called in the late afternoon and asked if it would be easier for us to talk over the phone instead of going back and forth online. Diane gave me a very bad attitude and stated that it would not be easier but she would look for my application. Once she was back on the phone she told me she needed to have one of her girls call my vet and I would need to call them to give permission. Again, I can not stress enough how rude her tone is through the entire phone call and how I was made to feel like I was being such a bother. I waited and waited and still no phone call back... I finally called back again (even though I have to say I felt kind of scared to!)and asked if they had gotten a hold of my vet yet. At that point Diane gave a disgusted sigh, said "I don't know." and then hung up on me. That's right... She hung up on me! I tried calling back a few times only to have someone pick up the phone and then hang it up right away. The one time she did actually say something, as soon as she heard it was me, she hung up again. I even sent an email giving her the benefit of the doubt asking if they were having phone trouble and if we could please come pick up the kitten. This email was never answered. I have never in my life been treated so rude. All we were trying to do was rescue a kitten and give her a loving home. My 8 year old daughter was so crushed that this woman never even responded back to our adoption request. I just can not believe the level of unprofessionalism and out right mean behavior of this woman. If you try to adopt from this center, good luck ever getting your cat and if you have kids, I would advise not even telling them you are trying to get one from here until you actually have it in your hands or else they will end up very disappointed. (After rereading this review, I still don't think it really emphasizes how incredibly rude this woman is! I'm not sure words can describe her.) read more

Great experiences with S.T.O.P. Have had (2) cats spayed at a reasonable price, one ill cat treated at their affordable vet clinic by a licensed veterinarian, received helpful one on one free training on caring for feral kittens I found. They provide the community access to pet health care they might not be able to afford elsewhere. The rescues come in with horrid conditions and Diana, the veterinarians, and volunteers nurse these poor things giving them the best chance of recovery as most would give up on them. The cat/kitten's welfare is number 1. They never turn away a suffering stray and assist others even after hours. These rescues are shown love beyond measure and give it back in return. For a non profit NO KILL shelter with high volume in intakes and many incurred vet and care expenses, they do a great job serving the community daily helping STOP the overpopulation of stray cats and still with affordable fees. Finally if you adopt your pet from there, you can rest assured the cat has been spay/neutered, is flea/mite free, received regular check ups, and has received lots of positive attention. read more

I took a perfectly healthy cat to be neutered. I now have a cat with a badly broken leg. The femur bone to be exact. I've been told it takes significant impact to break that bone. They will take no responsibility for the injury, even stating I brought the cat that way. So, basically, they are saying I brought a cat with broken leg, and they neutered it, saying nothing to me about his leg. Seems plausible. THEY BROKE MY CAT'S LEG! Please read the reviews on this place and beware. I wanted to adopt a kitten from them. They asked for all my information upfront before they would even talk to me. I received short rude emails from the "owner." I spent a week dancing to their tune. I finally called and the woman told me about how sick all the cats were and they had diarrhea and one even didn't seem to be recovering and whined about everything. Then told me there were 39 applicants for the same cat. Shortly after I called her she sent me an email saying I was declined as an adoptee and to have a nice day. Um. I didn't even make it in to see a cat. They have been nothing but rude and I question what kind of conditions they have these animals in.I went to check their posting and they had taken them all down. I am leery that she has a lot of information about me. I don't know what is going on up there (see previous review) but please be warned that things aren't right and be careful. Go see the people at the Humane Society and support their efforts. read more

In response to the previous review keep in mind that this Shelter takes in badly injured and down on their luck strays, As a volunteer I know that the cats are well taken care of and loved. The shelter has a veterinarian that comes onsite a few times a week and whatever he cannot treat an outside vet is used. Thousands of dollars a year is spent in veterinary care. STOP has no subsidies and runs strictly on donations. The shelter was refurbished in 2014. It's a 24/7 job run by one women a few volunteers. I appreciate everything she does for cats in the community that have no other chance. read more
