My daughter had her unit broken into and over 15K in possessions stolen. The run around we received after this from Kimberly, the "Risk Specialist" at Storage Mart has been hostile, unhelpful, and simply rude. They will not acknowledge the false advertising, the zero video surveillance (I was initially told they would check their cameras), or their negligence in omitting there was no surveillance whatsoever where my daughter's unit was located. In fact, the response I got was the following; "StorageMart offers video surveillance as advertised at our sites. We do not claim that video surveillance covers each and every unit or position at our sites." We were simply looking for a fair settlement to replace her items of which some are irreplaceable as they belonged to her father who is now deceased. I want all students and parents to know that their items are not secure and they will receive some of the worst customer service treatment in their lives if anything happens! Unfortunately because of the difficulty we had in having any sort of helpful communication with Kimberly, we have now had to hire an attorney.

    I went to the unit I had reserved approximately 12 days ago at 6:00 am. I opened my unit to find a…read moresignificant amount of water pooled in the back corner of the unit. Since the office didn't open until 9:30 am and I had to start getting my stuff moved into the unit, I went to find a 1/2 pallet (that was all I could get in my car). I found a place that had one, luggged it into my car and went back to the unit put the pallet down and unload my items. I had to go back to take a second load so I waited until the office opened so I could go by there on the way back to the unit. I went in and explained the situation to the manager and asked if I could use the unit next to mine which was available and had far less water in it. They shouldn't have any water in them, but I was in a bind because I needed it today. The manager said he didn't see any reason why I couldn't move to the same size unit next to mine. He informed the employee in training that the Regional Manager reguired approval before switching units. After waiting awhile I asked if I could go clean out the other unit and spray for bugs. He said he would come to the unit once he verified the change with his manager. I cleaned out the unit, sprayed for bugs, and waited. Finally, the manager came back with an answer. He said that the Regional Manager said that I could rent the other unit but I wouldn't get the discounted rate for the next two months as advertised and in my contract because the other unit was "upgraded". The only differences in the units was the amount of water and a small difference the size of the units. M downgraded unit was actually a tiny bit bigger than the "upgraded unit" because of where the steel beams were. It seemed clear that the Regional Manager didn't want to give me the 3 month promotion that his company advertised so he could make more money. I had no options at that time. I would expect a response from the Corporate office regarding this blatent intent to obtain more money out of there clients. There is absolutely no reason that I should have not been upgraded or moved immediately when I informed the office that I had water in my unit. Unfortunately, I had more on my mind that morning and didn't prepare to fight for what should have been basic customer service.
