There is a Spa pool just to the side of the main pool and also a Hydro-slide (I've never been brave enough to go on it). There's a lot of classes to choose from such as Aqua Aerobics and Swimming lessons and also early bird swimming. There is also a well equiped gym, but I only used it the once as it is always full of poser type men who make me feel very self concious and as there's no women only session I just leave them to it. The Leisure Centre is having a big overhaul at the moment with lots of building work going on to improve the facilities and offer a more varied programme of activities, work should be ending soon.

It's very tranquil and beautiful and there are spectacular views from different stretches along the way over the surrounding countryside. It runs for 35 miles within the Brecon Beacons National Park, from Brecon itself through to Pontypool. There is a wealth of wildlife to see and nice little towns and villages to explore along the way. Great for narrow boat holidays too of course.

There are waymarked paths to follow and you can walk or cycle all the way around. There is a cafe at the Garwnant Visitor Centre which is close to the northern end of the reservoir.

To walk around the lake…read morewhich is around a mile and quarter, with new paths and a heap of wildlife, is really quite a treat in this normal industrial area. I take my dogs here who have to be kept on a lead and you obviously have to pick their little packages up, but you don't mind because your keeping this idyllic place perfect. You can hire bikes and carts here for mere money and there's always loads of people skating. Its like Tredegar's answer to Venice Beach! There's paths that go off from the main lake walkway and I'm told you can wander as far as Blackwood if you're brave enough. Also, along the walkways there are loads of exercising points that are suitable for the elderly, the young, the fit and the out of shape. Handy little pit stops were Blaenau Gwent Council's idea of helping the borough get fitter! There's always loads going on here. As well as caravan and camp site, there's options to go water skiing, canoeing or just rowing. The log cabin that's pretty much in the middle of the park offers meals and snacks which are incredibly low priced and pretty delicious. There's three large car parks but be warned if it's hot the whole place is busy so you may just have to use the road outside BE CAREFUL though, that road is pretty busy. There's a nice large play area for children so after letting them ride round the lake on what ever contraption you feel best, let them really tire themselves out in the park while you have an ice cream and veg on the benches. Be warned after a certain time (5 in the winter 9 in the summer) gates will be closed so if you turn up late make sure to park outside the park. I'd recomend this park for a picnic and a wander!

Home of Pontypool Rugby Club - on match days don't expect to park anywhere near. I have fond memories of Pontypool Park from my childhood. Recently revisiting I was alarmed to see they had cut down quite a few large beautiful mature trees. I hope that they don't continue with this desecration as some parts of the park seemed a little bit boggy, probably due to there being less moisture taken out by the removed trees. I certainly hope that 'the powers that be' take good care of this oasis of calm for the benefit of future generations.

Ideally I'd like to see a small farm shop because it's a lengthy walk when you run out of milk first thing in the morning, but if you're cycling or have the car you're just a few miles from the lovely little market town of Abergavenny with everything you could want in terms of food and entertainment. You can book over the internet or phone the owners who are really helpful and nice managing to give the campsite an almost homely feel. The best part about this site is the relaxed atmosphere no on-site nightclub thank goodness!
