Both were friendly and excited to get the day started. We took the 2-5pm trip which was beautiful in the Boston summer. The boat was spacious and updated, and the ride was smooth the entire time. Rob knows his fish! In a matter of minutes we caught two large striped bass. We ended with 5 and had one appropriately sized to take home. Rob and dean were friendly and educational throughout. My son had an absolute blast. We ended with a Captain Rob surprise which I won't ruin. Overall a phenomenal experience. Highly recommend this to anyone of any age. We plan to go back out with CJ Victoria in the future.

Lou and Larry were very well prepared for the trip, having caught a good deal of mackerel bait ahead of time and let us catch some too. Once we were out on the water, Lou and Larry worked hard to help us land a catch. They were well prepared with chum to help attract the striper to the boat and explained all the proper techniques. We ended up catching 4 striper over 30 inches and it was great fun. In addition, Lou and Larry were great to talk to and made sure to point out local landmarks and even took us in close to see the fisherman's monument before heading into the dock. We arrived at 4:45am, for a 5:00am launch. Quentin was right on time and we were able to experience a beautiful sunrise on our way out of the harbor! During the trip, he was super helpful, provided guidance on techniques, and he had a great attitude right from the start. He was personable, down to earth, just an all around nice guy. He was a professional rugby player, and had lots of good stories to tell along the way. Quentin answered all our questions about we had about fishing and around Boston and the types of fish we'd be catching. Since we were staying at a hotel, I let him know we didn't have plans to take any fish home with us, so Quentin suggested we just go for the bigger ones, that weren't slot size, since we weren't keeping them anyway. Quentin knew the good spots for finding bait fish and stripers! He put us over a school of mackerel for our bait fish and we had a blast catching 1-5 every time the line went in the water. Quickly, we had close to 100 mackerel and then we were ready for the Striped Bass (Stripers). My son and I caught about a dozen quality fish, and we had doubles 2-3 times (i.e. two fish on the lines at the same time). Quentin's boat is fully equipped with everything we needed for fishing and an enjoyable trip. It's clean everything was in working order. He provided water and a cooler for the snacks we brought onboard. If you like catching, not just fishing, I would highly recommend Eureka Charters for an amazing experience! FISH ON!

He patiently answered the many questions we had about fishing in and around Boston Harbor, offered suggestions about gear and bait, showed us some good spots for finding baitfish and stripers, and even filleted our catch at the end of the trip (we caught 3 - a cow, a smaller striper, and a keeper). His generosity in sharing the "secrets" of successful fishing was much appreciated, and we can't wait to get back out on the water to put them to use. We had a lovely dinner which started inside but then we asked if we could sit outside as the evening went on and they accommodated. I order the sushi roll and a white wine and my husband ordered a drink and an app with dessert. It is very casual and a very friendly atmosphere. It was a beautiful evening out. The parking is very tight here so try to find a spot on the street before you go there (only a handful of spots). I was happy we were able to dine here since it brings back fond memories for my hubby when he lived in Marblehead.

Great Sunday morning on the water with Captain Vito!…read more My girlfriend and I took her father out as a planned birthday present and, having grown up fishing and having been on a number of charters before, I was nervous about going out with someone I didn't know and wasn't necessarily recommended to me. But please listen to your friends on Yelp, book a charter, and have a fun time catching fish. We went out for stripers, so we had a go at catching mackerel in the morning to use as bait. It was slow for mackerel, I think we caught four, but it wasn't for lack of trying on Vito's part. He was on the radio all morning looking for hot spots and looking at the fish finder himself, all while we had three lines in the water. We got a few pollock later on as well. Most of the day was spent trolling the shore for what we came for and we hooked into around eight, landing two keepers. We'll be eating fish for the next month, but the best part was the company; Vito included. Vito has been fishing for 30 years (we asked) and you can tell he still loves what he does. Vito is instructive with the equipment to the point where you feel comfortable using something you hadn't seen before an hour ago (one of us hadn't been fishing before). Vito will work as hard as he has to in order to get you on fish and be happy doing it. We'll be back as soon as possible! Thanks again!

My experience with Gloucester Fleet wasn't very good. My son loves fishing and as a treat for being…read moretop of his high school graduating class, I figured his first ocean fishing trip would be a great reward. On July 8th, I booked a 3/4 day trip for July 20th and also an overnight stay at the Cape Ann Resort hotel. About 11:30 AM on July 19th as I and my son were starting out to the location from New York State, we received a call from Gloucester Fleet confirming the trip. Great! We took pics of the boat that evening. Next morning we head over to the boarding area. My son slept only two hours because he was so excited for the trip. There were no people around which was odd since we were only 20 minutes before the departure time of 7AM. Eventually, we called the Fleet number and spoke to the captain/owner who recalled his wife speaking to me the day before to confirm the trip. But, he had canceled the trip later on because too few customers to justify the fuel expense and called everybody - everybody except us (absolutely no call on my mobile account). So, WE lost money - my two vacation days from work, hotel expense, restaurant dinner, fuel for the trip, all totaled well over $1,000 and also about 8 hours of driving and the huge disappointment. Instead of being very apologetic and perhaps offering a free future trip and covering hotel expense, he said we could drive about 45 minutes (52 minutes per Google) to New Hampshire and if lucky get an 8AM boat that catches mackerel -- or, get this, go whale watching! He said all the other people were understanding -- but they were called the day before. If we'd received the cancelation call there would have been time to rearrange things. Curiously, there was a nearby fishing boat trip from a competitor that was sold out -- no lack of customers. I wonder why...

The boat is a 95' Lydia style fishing boat and the crew is small but active and eager to help. There seems to be less drinking on Walsh's trips then on the other fleets I have sailed with. This translates into a cooperative, kid-friendly crowd making it hard, sometimes, to tell who is crew and who is friendly fisherman. Their website is nice it has some good information about their company, but if you are interested in fishing YOU MUST CALL THEM for details about scheduling and pricing. Walsh fishes deeper then many of the other boats and carefully chooses his spots based on whats biting. Deep water often means larger fish but the reel-in can be long and painful so rest your arm before you go and have fun.

I…read morewas nervous sending a 6 and 9 year old out on the ocean for the first time and had to look very carefully at who I was sending my family with.  Jake took such great care of all of them.  It was about so much more than fishing.  All of them came back raving about how much fun they had and how much they enjoyed themselves.  They all learned about the area, the history, the ocean, the fish, and the ecosystems that are in the area.  Jake was so generous with his knowledge and skills.  All of them want to go back out and can't wait to go again with Jake.  I can't say enough good things about the time they had and the experience for each of their skill levels.  If you are in the area looking to go out fishing then I would highly recommend calling Reely Livin' Charters.
