Wow, I went in to buy some home air filters for my home heating and cooling system and I received excellent service as soon as I entered the store. A middle aged lady (sorry I didn't get her name) took me to the location where the item I was looking for was, then helped to find my exact item. I don't have a need to go to the hardware store more than about once a year so this is a big help. Although they may not be as price competitive as Home Depot, it really helps a lot especially when its a large store. read more

Pulling into the parking lot gave me the warm fuzzies to be returning to my old, beloved OSH building. Entering the store, and seeing it was laid out almost the same as it was before, and the decor was about the same, immediately made me a fan. They have tons of employees walking around offering help, and a good selection of merchandise, with more to come for next month's Grand Opening, per one employee. Shout-out to your employee GARRETT at the Workbench station. He was very nice helping me out to get my shower door fixed. I was looking for a special type of T-bolt pin for the shower door but they don't carry the exact part at the store. He did not give up though. Instead, he got me a regular 20 cent hex bolt and modified it by grinding and reshaping so it will have the specifics of the T-bolt pin that I needed. Now, that is what I called " willing to go an extra mile for a customer". I don't think other hardware stores will do this (not for a 20 cent bolt) and I was not expecting it to be done but Garrett made the effort to meet my need. If I buy the parts on a bathroom store seller online it will cost me my arms and legs and a week to get it delivered. But because of Garret not only that I saved a lot, I was also able to finish the job with no delays. Kudos to Strand Ace Hardware at Modesto. You should be proud to have an A+ employee like Garett. Absolutely Love This Store and Employees. Quarantined/Stuck at home for cancer right when I could go out and had energy COVID-19. So recently my husband wants me to get out and I can not wear mask due to illness so I stand outside with my dog. When management see me and invite me in saying MASK NOT REQUIRED. Made my year. I got dressed early and made my husband take me next day I bought flowers detergent my kids were so happy for me they said to bad not grocery store as I Instacart my food. Soon after this store first reopened, I wrote a review slamming it because of the poor customer service. I waited quite some time(over a year) before returning. I have since gone into this store several times. I will say that most of the staff are about what I would expect at a hardware supply store in today's world. Staff members are fairly friendly, but typically lack experience and knowledge of many of the products they sell. However, one employee at this store has repeatedly exceeded every expectation I have had with each time I have interacted with her--whether my contact with her be at the register or on the floor. Deana has been EXTREMELY welcoming, helpful, polite, and 100% customer service oriented with each contact she has had with me. Deana is a true gem in this store, and is THE reason for five stars on this review! This morning I walked into the store with a blown breaker switch. I was sure I was going to have a difficult time finding the right switch because of how old my house is. Halfway through the store I come across Deana, who without missing a beat offers assistance. She took a quick look at my breaker switch, knew EXACTLY where it was(locked up), and offered me a replacement; all within about one minute! That is what I am looking for in a hardware store! However, the reason I'm writing this review is the customer service. I had at least 6 different employees check in on me during the 10 minutes I was there. Mixed feelings. Growing up in small towns, we often had ACE hardware stores or True Value Locations that had been there forever and often in smaller worn down buildings that smelled like an old garage. There would usually be an employee named Bill or Bob in the back (average age of 70) that knew where every part was and how to fix practically anything. This Ace is different, it is new and clean. The employees are fresh and figuring things out. I'll probably stick to my regular hardware store but good alternative to Home Depot and Lowe's if I need anything else. read more

Lots of hardware. Some unique decorative items. More kitchen stuff than Walmart or Target. Lots of people to help. Prices a bit high. But very nice. And of course the fastener area w tons of loose screws and nuts etc. is amazing here too. It really is a lot easier to find screws and their matching nuts at Ace Hardware stores and True Value stores. read more

I was at the New Ace Hardware in Modesto the other day and I was having some problems with my Traeger Grill that I had bought years ago. (Not from Ace) I met a Salesperson there by the name of Vinnie. This guy know his grills. He was able to help me with my problem and sold me some other grill items to try and I love them. As I was leaving to another part of the store Vinnie asked me if there was anything else I needed and I explained I needed a Wood drill bit. Vinnie asked me what was my project and I explained what I was doing and he said "I have the perfect bit for you". Vinnie I hope you get this "It Was". Thank You. I have made several visits to Strand Ace Hardware'a new Oakdale Road location. I always have a project to work on but I have never experienced customer service, help, advice like I do shopping at this location. The managers have well trained staff constantly available to help with a smile. It is quite refreshing to have a new hardware store open that clearly puts customers above all else. I am writing this review and giving this rating strictly due to my experience at this location and this stores customer service deficiency. I went in to buy a can of spray paint and some fuses And After coming upon their awesome tool gallery that they have, I got reminded that they are a Craftsman dealer and decided to look at The Craftsman sets of tools Because I would like to replace the tools that I had stolen from me not too long ago. From the very moment that I walked into the store and the whole 15 min that I was in the tool coral, I was asked if I needed help Or if I was finding everything OK A total of 8 times by 2 different employees.....lol. It was apparent that they were watching me the entire time as they were practically breathing down my neck. I actually heard The younger gentleman that asked me 5 times alone if I "needed help finding anything" report to their security about some other customers in the store that they suspected of shoplifting! So i know what he was doing and it was very uncomfortable and it upset me. So much so that I left and did not buy any tools like I was going to possibly do. The funny part is.... it's pure ignorance to me because I'm in the wide open store open to all where everybody can see me And every tool set has security spider wire on it And it's not like they didnt already have 3 people watching over me as well!!... The 5th and last time the young gentleman asked me if i needed help he said "Sir....are you sure you don't need any assistance." And he said it in a tone of like "how can it take you this long sir to find tools"! I know that there's a lot of theft and that this is a sign of The Times..... But when does lost prevention become harassment. I'm a contractor I walked in there wearing boots and cathartic and I looked like I belong there cuz I do but these people were unprofessional And they acted like law enforcement rather than Ace Hardware employees. I'll never visit the store again! BTW...... They didn't have crap when it came to Craftsman tools! So they sucked there too!! I'd give this a zero if possible. read more

I thought this was supposed to be the helpful place. I went into this store with my daughter last week and I was seriously appalled by the lack of helpful, friendly staff that this company prides itself on. We passed by several employees as we walked the aisles, and not one of them smiled, greeted us, asked us if we needed any help, or even acknowledged our presence in any way. If anything, we were scowled at, glared at, and generally made to feel unwelcome. I asked the location of an item and got a rude, abrupt reply and a vague hand wave in the general direction of said item. Once we got to the checkout, we were, again, not greeted, no smile, and no thank you after spending over 100 dollars. This was early in the morning, on a weekday, right after opening. If the manager of this store reads this review, I strongly suggest you have a talk with your morning employees. They were all female, all dark-haired. Wow, Ace. Do better. read more

I was extremely excited to have our neighborhood hardware store open again. First visit walked in with quite a big list but noticed the prices considerably higher. So much so that I had to go elsewhere. I had a big list, it would have been a lot more $$. Second visit I went in knowing what I wanted and explained what I needed it for and the clerk talked me into a different product. I thought it was great until I tried to use it and got so angry and frustrated that I took it back for a refund. It DID NOT work for the light job....at all! Third and final visit I went in and found what I needed but asked a clerk for details on another the product I was considering buying. $100 item. I felt I was being talked down to but then the same clerk made a smartish remark. Dissappointed. I tried 3 times. Prices are probably the biggest deterrent for me. AT LEAST a dollar to two more on most items. Not all, but most. read more

So we went there the first week it was open. The layout was pretty much the same as Osh but not nearly the amount of product. Almost looked half full. We checked their prices and they seemed reasonable. Their chlorine for the pool had two gallons for less than $6.00. Amazing better than Walmart. Fast forward two weeks they have raised their prices to $9.99. Seriously! OSH was always packed and their prices reasonable. Needless to say we left and bought nothing. There was a lot of foot traffic but the consensus was the same they came to see and walked out with nothing. If ACE doesn't change their pricing I will go to. Tru value on Coffee. I discovered them when OSH went out of business. They are smaller but prices are great and so is their customer service. read more

Today was the 2nd time I've been there and there's been no one in the paint dept to help customers. I had to stand in the checkout line with my cart full of other purchases to ask the clerk for someone to help me. I left my cart there and received help with the spray paint. When I went back up to the checkout line the clerk took two customers ahead of me so I had to wait twice in the line. Then she overcharged me and I didn't realize it so I had to go back. She couldn't figure out how to credit my debit card for the $12.95 overcharge so gave me cash back and actually still did not give me the extra 10% off that was supposed to be given for buying 8 six packs of plants. She never apologized for any of it until I told her how irritated I was. I was very happy when ACE took the spot of Orchard Supply but with customer service like that or should I say lack of I might as well go to Home Depot. read more

I wanted to give a major shout out to a few of the employees I came into contact with today. First I called to ask if you had something in stock, a specific key, not only did Bryce help me over the phone, there were a few choices so he sent me pictures in case it wasn't what I was looking for and explained that all keys aren't the same when it comes to what kind of key you can use to copy. When I arrived, I ended up speaking with Tom in the key cutting department and he also helped me confirming what key would work with my original key. Up to the register I go, and I am pretty sure it was Robert who assisted me. Again - stellar customer service. Super impressed with everyone I came in contact with! It's nice to have a hardware store with the selection they have close by but the first time I went and asked for something they didn't know what I was talking about so I went to Home Depot and got it. The second time my wife went in looking for some caulk to fill in some cracks in our kitchen cabinets the she is repainting. She was asked if she needed some help and she explained that she was repainting our cabinets and needed caulking for some cracks. The employee told her what caulk she needed and she was off to do the repairs. He gave her silicone caulk and paint doesn't stick to silicone caulk. Now another trip back to get the caulk that can be painted over!!! read more

The store itself is very nice. Has an adequate amount of items, and you should be able to find what your looking for. All is good until the checkout. Probably the most rudest checkout process I have ever encountered. They need to work on their customer relations or they won't be staying in this location for very long. I will not return. The big box stores are friendlier......and anything specific.....I will run to True Value. I thought Ace rewards were as they imply "a reward" for shopping there, except, you can't use it on this, or you can't combine it with that. Too many stipulations and NOT really a reward at all. Look for your needs at the big box stores, True Value or Amazon. This place is a ripoff!!! read more

My wife and I did not have over 90 seconds go by with out an employee checking to see if we needed any assistance. So I have been here several times before writing something because I wanted to see if the service changed during different times I went to the store. So far it has stayed consistent. There are plenty of employees and they are always willing to help. As I am walking around the store and an employee sees me, it is almost like they are trying read me to see if I'm lost. I have seen them drop what they are doing and walk over to make sure I was taken care of or to make sure I knew what aisle to go too. Recently I dealt with Julian on a small project and he was amazing. He knew exactly what I was looking for and even offered to help me fix the problem at the work bench. I took up quite a bit of time but it was nice to just grab what was needed to finish the task. He helped every step of the way. The store was clean and the layout reminded me of OSH which helped in locating items easier since we were used to the store. So far every time I have been there has been a positive experience. read more

This review is in regards to employment, this is a business that has not taken this Pandemic serious it does not support or enforce Masks. No concern for the community or employees Safety. There reason is don't want to miss the sale Money is more important then safety. If you get injured expect to be treated different even it was there negligence for the injury. My injury cause much pain which of course made me miss days. Still lead to getting a write up. So keep in mind don't miss more than your allowed 3 days. Which your absences will caring over to next year they combine them when put in writing. The worst year that any of us have ever experienced for concern of family health and wellness. So I experienced 3 big losses which most recent my Dad. For me required time. Grievance for all is entitled, but no compassion thru this family owned business. No matter your struggle still puts in same category of call in. And allows that to be the reason for firing someone. There are many employees that can do no wrong and you will see it from the start. So my overall experience was disappointing which I feel is based on Management choice. Owners have blinders to how things really operate. My take away will be the people who I met some I will hold as a special treasure. From Experience Modesto Ace Is Not the Place.. take it as you will. It really doesn't deserve a Star. read more

Wanted to get out of the house Sunday afternoon musing about the cooler coming days... to do some more gardening in the front yard. Generally wanted to check out the prices on stuff and get some walking behind me (I'm old)... First thing saw the place was packed - Oh, Grand Opening... to the right as I walked in the key desk reminded me to get a new key for the front door. I like the ones with a design $3.99; saw a key holder with a dashshund for the granddaughter $4.59; did a slow walk inside through a few aisles; and yes some prices are high... some comparable to other stores; took the doors out to the garden seeing what they had - the plants were in good shape... picked up 2 six packs of ground covers $2.99 ($5.98) and two plastic edging 16" by 22" to curb the flow of dirt from my berm when I water. All in all, the price came to $24.54 and I got a $5.00 discount with the tab being $21.08. Being a member I guess that's why. Couple of days ago, received in the mail two $5.00 off rewards, one till 9/12/19 and the other 10/12/19. I was so glad to see this become ACE Hardware... I loved OSH cause it's close by... and I just like to browse through the store and garden. read more

I've been waiting for Ace Hardware to return to Modesto Ca. I went to their soft opening n enjoyed it however the following week! I need a certain part n, I called a head to verify that they had it they told me yes so, I'm disable n use a medical scooter it took me 25min in the hot sun to get their well turns out they didn't have what, I needed after the employee told me he's sorry for the mishap, I asked for a Manager. John the manager walked up never acknowledged me or look at me he ask the employee what happen after the employee explained that they don't have the part the manager, John turned his head n said we don't have the part rudely. I was shocked by his response, I already knew they didn't have the part thats not y m, I asked for a manager. After, John (manager) told me they don't have the part rudely all, I said that's it, The manager, John flew off the handle n said so what u want me to order the part, I was shocked n amazed by his attitude, I said no n, I'm not returning, John (manager) said that's fine!!as, I was leaving, I said that, I was going to post s review he said, (It's Ok) Ace Hardware dose'nt care about their customer's their, Manager John proves it by the way the manager treats a disable customer that rode his medical scooter 25min in the hot sun just to get mistreated.
