This museum is a part of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation (CCBF), a non-profit which…read morepreserves the nearby battlefield and hosts periodic reenactments. It also owns a separate building directly across from the battlefield, which holds the foundation's store and HQ. Admission to Hupp's Hill is $5. This place is the repository of the battle's artifacts and focuses on the later aspects of the Shenandoah campaign, which culminated in the Battle of Cedar Creek. More importantly, Hupp's Hill has a short walking trail which takes you past several original Confederate fighting positions called "lunettes", named for their half-moon shape. The hill served as a natural fortification during the war, although it never saw actual fighting. Without much difficulty you can see the outline of several bunkers. When I visited the museum it was empty, although the aide was quick to put on the (rather long) video which described the battle. There is also a large terrain map of Cedar Creek, which is useful in conceptualizing the battle. I enjoyed the museum much more than I thought I would. $5 is a worthwhile investment in the Foundation's work. If you are going to visit the battlefield, think about visiting Hupp's Hill first. The first floor had the reception desk, small gift shop, obstacle course, and a plasma sphere that really passed electric shock, we felt it in our fingers lol. Second and third floors had lots of play space for kids. Fourth floor had few things around space. All the staff members were very friendly. Most of the area of was clean and maintained. We spent about an hour here. Seemed really popular with locals as many families were there with their kids.

The grounds are beautiful with flowers, fruit trees, and a natural spring near by and has free parking. This tour is a part of a block ticket you can get for $10 and also visit Gen. Stonewall Jackson's home and Gen. George Washington's Headquarters all located in the same general downtown area.

I was filled with Joy that I haven't felt in a long time, and those who saw me knew it, and had to giggle at me a little because this good old country boy drove up in a 2014Toyota Prius plug-in loaded down with camping gear to a place that doesn't normally see a Prius from California. Since I was there I had to pay my respects to Ben Jones by ordering Cooter's Classic Burger, and this nice lady told me about the other Cooter's restaurants that I can visit, I didn't realize it was Alma Viator the late Ben Jones (aka Cooter) widowed wife. The cashier/cook lady kindly told me who she was, and my jaw dropped. I felt so blessed that someone like her would talk to me just a little country boy from a little town called Cere's California. I was also incredibly nervous to be around such Redneck royalty, so I mustered up my strength to tell her how so many rednecks loved her & her husband in California, and how amazing Cooter's Place is to me. Truly a holy place for country boys like me, but unfortunately I forgot to mention to her that it was the character Cooter that inspired me to be a dealer mechanic, but I was rudely interrupted by my girlfriend asking for an autograph which was inappropriate for a grieving widow. I also wanted to give her my deepest condolences for her loss, I wish I could have met Ben, he truly was a talented man, so inspirational in so many ways. For a little while I was in Heaven surrounded by so many memories of the joy that the Dukes of Hazzard brought to my childhood. I truly hope to visit this place again someday. Cooter's Place holds a special place in my heart. Thank you Alma for making this experience so incredibly memorable for me. I appreciate your' hard work keeping Cooter's Place open.

It was nostalgic. It people were friendly and helpful. I purchased a souvenir as I grew up…read morewatching the show. The backstory of what went into the stunts and how a lot of it was trial and error and memorization was interesting. The hardest part was realizing my own naivety and flat out ignorance as it related to the confederate heritage that undergirded the show. From the car, the flag and heritage the theme of the show aimed to keep alive was tough to come to terms with and at the same time reminded me of the innocence of being a child and just enjoying the action and comedic experience the show brought. I bought a souvenir and I haven't even unpacked it almost a month later.

It is located in a strip mall, but has a couple rooms of exhibits and its centerpiece is a light up battle map that runs for 18 minutes and walks you through the battle. They have four partner sites, a morning attacks hiking trail, and a driving tour, so you could easily spend all day here. We ended up going over to Belle Grove and doing a building tour, plantation overview, and viewing where the fighting took place, then heading to Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Headquarters to view their free museum and film. The rangers were very friendly and helpful, great with answering questions and providing information. They have an assortment of brochures, maps, junior ranger booklets, and the like, plus passport stamps available at the visitor center. There is a small parking lot available.

The Shenandoah Sips event, an annual fundraiser, is lame. For 40 bucks, you get to taste a very…read moresmall amount of wine, cider or whatever, but no beer. The bands are not good and seating (only on the ground) is first come first serve. Security will not allow you to bring in your own water bottle and they do not exercise common sense. Ok, it's a fundraiser, but bring in decent vendors please. I was just trying to find a Chardonnay, but could not find a decent bottle of wine. And not any beer!? Geez, was I even in America? I will not return.

From the hilltops you get an amazing view. It was fun to see two red pandas on special exhibit munching on bamboo. There were many tables set up to educate folks about a myriad of topics related to the institute's work. Another neat thing was seeing the cranes who seemed to enjoy looking at people just as much as we enjoyed them. A visit to the bird house was informative, especially about the plight of birds in Guam due to predation by introduced snakes. I would have given the visit 5 stars except for the lack of transport for handicapped individuals. They had school buses but in order to take them you had to first walk up a hill. Also, many volunteers were very unknowledgeable about the place and couldn't answer simple questions. Perhaps, an orientation for them would have helped. One volunteer directed us to the panda's normal enclosure way on the other side of the property when they had been moved to another display area for the visitors. The regular staff that were onsite were very helpful and I felt privileged to have the opportunity to hear about the animals from them.
