Through the course of my husband's illness and sudden passing, we had not had time to notify the funeral home of our intention to use their services. Tom and Andrea were very understanding and responded promptly when called upon. Plans for cremation went without a hitch, and Tom was very helpful as I took time to create the perfect urn box. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, and I know Tom and Andrea will help with details when the time comes. I appreciate their kind and gentle ways, their patience, their attention to detail, and the little things they do to help loved ones get through a very difficult and emotional time.

The folks at Hildebrand-Russ were kind, patient, and very helpful. They listened to any and all of my concerns and were very supportive during the most terrible time a person can face. It has been a difficult process for me and Hildebrand-Russ has handled it with the delicacy and expertise I would expect of a top notch funeral home. It has been a surreal experience for me as I have only attended one other funeral in my life and I sure wasn't comfortable in this setting. But it is a quiet and respectful business and they put me at ease instantly. They went out of their way to check up on matters beyond what was necessary simply because I was lost and unsure of what to do next. They, along with hospice, have greatly helped me through this process. Hildebrand-Russ exemplifies the dignity and respect that the funerary industry should be. My mother was in good hands with them and I highly recommend their services.

John DeLaporte met with us even before we could wonder what should be done. He gently listened and walked us through each step of the process. August Helke and his son, Charles, made furniture, bar and store fixtures, as well as church cabinets. They started Helke Furniture Company, located at 319 Fourth Street, Wausau, in 1874. Since coffins differed little from fine upholstered furniture, the two craftsmen naturally evolved into the funeral business. Charles was among the first licensed embalmers in the Wisconsin. In 1939, Charles and his son Carl built Wausau's first funeral home located at 413 Jefferson Street. The founder's grandsons, Charles and Richard, were part of the business by 1962, when Helke's built a second funeral home on Wausau's expanding west side, at 302 Spruce Street. This remains the current site of Helke Funeral Home and Cremation Services. We are the oldest continually operated business in Marathon County.

Dealing with the death of a parent is hard enough, then add in a world pandemic, and you have total disbelief in what is happening. We were referred to Nimsgern Funeral services by a nurse who was caring for my Mom. Jamie, from the funeral home, came right to our Mom's house And with compassion and patience, walked my sister and I through all that we would need to do to lay our Mom to rest. Though we weren't able to give our Mom the funeral service that we would liked to have given her, because of the pandemic circumstances, Jamie did help us to give our Mom the best care and respect that she deserved. Though we could not have a public funeral for our Mom in their funeral home, we did go there to make the final arrangements for our Mom, and the building and facilities that they offer are very nice. The place was nicely decorated and very clean. A very nice facility to hold a funeral.
