This place is a good place to start at if you would like to get your foot in the door. The owner has made it perfectly clear this is a job, not a place where you can turn it into a career. This place will be a good resume filler, because honestly that was how I viewed it. More words to add to the paper and more money to put into my pocket. Speaking of money I shall admit that the pay is alright. Twenty dollars an hour, for someone who is not used to making over minimum wage, that pay was alright with me. Sure there are taxes, but I don't mind putting in the extra effort to keep the IRS off my butt if i'm getting paid that much. Another pro I can think of are the people I work with. All of them are just great people that are trying to make it through life. Mostly young adults that are so easy have a conversation with.
Well, there are so many cons to this place. One of them would have to be the lies given to you during your first interview. I had my interview with the head manager at the time and another manager and what the head manager told me during my interview was about.... 75% False? If you actually want to work here, just smile and nod because they are honestly playing you like a fool. I was told there are countless advancement opportunities there, which was a lie. I was never told I needed a passport, but of course a couple months later I find out one needs a passport to do their job. Hope you like Canada and Mexico! Since we are on the topic of interviews do get ready because during your interview you will not be told you will have to give up 500 dollars of your hard earned money to set up an LLC. I was told after I was hired. You can borrow some money but do expect it to be taken out of your first or second full paycheck.
Management is the next one. It seems that the two head managers like to switch roles like children playing a game in kindergarten. The current head manager seems to be on a power trip, he/she does not listen to reason. She/He just seems to throw work at the workers and managers below her/him, then expects us to understand what we're doing. Like chickens with our heads cut off we scramble around to make sure the work given to us is done right and on time. The Head Managers don't really explain things well to the workers, and as of late they tend to use soft phrases to get their workers to work more hours. As an LLC we can work as many hours as we want, but the Head Managers use phrases such as," I highly recommend" or " It would be a very smart idea" to get you to worry about your job placement in the company. It also seems that the Head Managers are allowed to leave early and take two hour lunch breaks. But then when you're coming back from a ten minute food run the current Head Manager will gossip about how long you took. Very good business practice.
I know during my first week under the now current manager( as of the time this review has been written ) I was basically being set up for failure. There was no communication between the both of us. I was shown two things and left all on my own. I was also lied to about my pay. I was told if I come in early during the hour from seven to eight that did not count as payment, which means I wouldn't have gotten paid for that hour I worked. Two weeks later I found out that is simply not the case.
Another thing would be when you get your pay. When I was hired I was told that I would get my pay at the end of the month. The end of the month comes around, no pay. I'm then told I will get paid at the end of next month. As much as I disliked it I waited, but little did I know I would be paid a month behind. I was only given the pay of the seven days I worked there. It was a huge disappointment and once again I was lied to. One of the workers in Upper Management assured me my two paychecks would be combined so at the end of one month I would get this huge check, of course that was a lie. It takes about three months to properly get into the swing of things. A warning would be nice.
Actually talk to your employees, they are people too. Don't just assume that everything is perfect just because the two Head Managers assure you everything is alright. When you tell people 40 hours are expected then keep it at 40 hours. At least when you are giving an interview let the person know the hours depend on the team, that kind of heads up would be delightful. Let them know what is expected, don't hire them then surprise them with the news of needing a passport because not everyone wants to leave the country. I know it's a shocker, but it's true. Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you have to have a passport. That is just beyond ridiculous.
Also you can't make up bonuses with candy. I would rather have a bonus supplied in money than chocolate that hurts my teeth. read more
