Great little park away from the noise, cars, and hustle of the city. You want a little peace and quiet to chill, read, or do nothing. Pro tip.... Bring a blanket in case the grass is wet. This is the place. Also, Hidden Cafe is right there for great coffee and snacks. (Closed Monday) This park stretches for a few blocks behind the busy streets with tennis courts, a kids playground and a clean creek flowing through it. Kids were playing in the creek and having a great time. The rope play structure is awesome. A very nice place to get away from it all in Berkeley and let's be real, there's a lot to get away from on Berkeley. read more

There's truly something for every age group at this park. A nice playground for the kids, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts for adults and teens, and if you walk to the grassy area next to hidden cafe there's so many adults and families enjoying the outdoors picnicking. A very nice, somewhat hidden park in Berkeley. It seemed small at first glance, but as you keep walking, you go past the grassy area where people congregate to Strawberry Creek and some small bridges, to a playground, to basketball and tennis courts. I would describe it as long, and much easier to find on foot than in a car, that's how I found it at least. A good find in Berkeley!! read more

This is a very civilized park because you can have brunch at the Hidden Cafe which faces the main lawn (review: https://bit.ly/3JqLsnl). It's actually part of the park like an iddy-biddy Tavern on the Green and the main reason I know about this four-acre, two-block-long recreational area. I ain't no baby mama with a huge stroller I use as a battering ram. I just happened upon the paved bike path that connects the park with University Avenue. It took me a couple of visits to recognize there's actually a Strawberry Creek that courses through the park since it's hidden somewhat by the foliage. I believe it's Berkeley's only river. OK, it's not quite a river, but there's enough water to warrant a footbridge. An elaborate playground dominates the middle portion, and basketball courts take up the southern section. Another lovely park in Berkeley. We visited this weekend for a bday party and it was fantastic. Ample green space for kiddos to run. Lovely playground (very similar to tunnel tops in presidio) and Hidden cafe is right there too which makes it great if you want to grab a bite and coffee. read more

Small hidden gem. There is only one tennis court, a volley ball court, a caged "soccer field" (same flooring as the tennis court), and a couple of basketball courts. Parking is mainly easy to find. Each area has its own set of lights. I've only played tennis at this park. I usually play at night. The lights aren't as good as grove park or willard park. One down side I encountered is that the park is that It's right beside a construction company. I played here on a weekday morning about 8 A.M. There is a lot of noise from vehicles moving around. One bad thing was that we had to stop playing because a cloud of dust slowly covered the whole area. At night, never experienced this. read more

I'd never think of going to a park on my own. The Four Seasons is my idea of the great outdoors. This location was deemed a great meeting outdoor place for our and a block from our office. Actually quite large with several different areas for activities. We found a nice spot in the meadow area. I actually enjoyed just hanging out in the great outdoors! read more

As far as parks go in Berkeley, I appreciate Strawberry Creek Park. Although seemingly small since if you take in all that it comes with it, it's pretty large. It's long vs all the amenities in once space. It has a few tennis courts, bball courts, a pretty large playground area with an epic long silver slide. Then there's the creek itself with a few picnic benches alongside. Once you cross the bridge, you come to a cafe, a bakery and a few other small businesses sitting on a largish green field perfect for a picnic. My son really loves the playground here and the slide which at once intimidated now loves. My fam and I love riding our bikes here to enjoy a nice afternoon in the park exploring all the sites (and a cookie or two from the bakery or cafe). read more

They made a perfectly fine park and made it into something with a lot of space and no reasons for toddlers to visit. Equipment are for bigger kids. Why couldn't they have one structure for the little ones?? read more

Strawberry Creek Park is a beautiful nice secluded spot. It has clean basketball court, and a place to even play soccer. It's very grassy, it smells good, and it's nice to see people with all sorts of different interests congregate and have fun. Beautiful atmosphere. Would recommend for all ages. read more

Tiny little park in the middle of Berkeley. Glorious on a warm sunny day. Perfect for a picnic - there are some shady spots, and there's even a café on the ground floor that looks out onto the field where you can buy some cold pelligrino and grab a sandwich. Great place for dogs to run off some energy, even if it's just back and forth across the small green field chasing a ball. If you're lucky, the neighbor will be playing his trumpet, a cool breeze will be blowing, and you can finish your long-awaited book in peace. Don't forget to pick up a couple of giant chocolate chip cookies at the Phoenix Pastifico, also on the ground floor. read more

Reason for visit: A post brunch park adventure Visit date: April 24, 2016 First time? No. Strawberry Creek park is always a nice place to sit for some quiet time or to enjoy the company of friends. On this visit there was a jazz band playing at the neighboring cafe. What a treat! This is a no frills park - i.e. It's just open field/grass and a couple of benches. It's perfect for picnicking. This gets five stars for the infamous slide. It could be a park with nothing more than the long metal old school slide, and it would get five stars. The rest of the playground is pretty standard. There is also a bridge that crosses a stream, picnic tables, and a grassy area. The grassy area is often occupied by off-leash dogs, so that part of the park is not recommended for picnics or small tot resting. read more

This park is a solid park with a large grassy grazing area for humans, as well as a nice park for kids with swings and jungle-gym set and the whole shabang. As someone who is really involved with the ecology and creek restoration this park is not just about the part, but about a movement and dedication to nature. Little known, this park is a "daylit" part of Strawberry Creek, which is primarily channelized. If you follow the creek it will lead you to the ocean! I think that the restoration efforts that have gone on here are extremely exciting and I hope that more people will learn about it. The park is really accessible and is a great place to wind down and escape busy urban life. read more

A like this quirky, seemingly off the beaten path park in the middle of a random Berkeley neighborhood. I first read about Strawberry Creek Park on 510families,com. Upon reading I could stop for coffee plus let my then 1.5 year old run around, I decided it must be a winning situation. I met a couple of friends and their wee ones, and we spent a few morning hours in this shady park. Things to note: 1) Street parking. You can't really see the park from the road, but have no fear - it lies a few steps behind a school or learning center of some sort. 2) A large metal slide is the highlight of Strawberry Creek Park. I worried it would be too fast for my 1.5 yo son; however, it slows you down towards the end. It is loads of fun for all ages! 3) There is a small cafe serving coffee and lunch; although, again, you can't initially see it from the playground. Walk over the bridge, up the hill, and you'll see it across from a large grassy area. read more

If it wasn't for Strawberry Creek Park, I'd have nowhere vaguely nature-ish to go in my neighborhood. This place is more than just a flat expanse of grass. It's small, but it has a lovely creek and a strand of trees. There is a little playground and a wide space for kids and dogs to run, and picnic tables by the creek. There are usually a few parents with small kids, a couple people lying in the grass on their lunch break, people walking their dogs, etc. Nearby are a few businesses and a lunchtime cafe, some apartments, and the garden of a school or youth center or something. This is not far from the Andronico's on University. Never been there at night, but it's a nice place on a sunny day. read more

For those of you not acquainted with this relatively unknown park in Berkeley, it is a piece of residential neighborhood green that was once the Santa Fe Railroad freight yard. Its name comes from the fact that the Strawberry Creek is day-lighted here when it was rerouted back on its original course. There are large pieces of green for sunbathing, for picnicking, and for running around with your dogs. I have seen birthday parties being hosted by the picnic tables and groups of families swarming here on a sunny day. For those of you who do not like the sun, the beautiful groves provide shade and screening from the traffic nearby. It is, after all, right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Despite its location, there are quite a few businesses and public institutions nearby: the Berkeley Youth Alternative, The Phoenix Pastificio, Cook Lia, and Innersport Chiropractic. I have never been here at night, but the constant stream of traffic has always had me feeling safe during the day. Make no mistake though, this is not some overcrowded or overrun park. Strands of trees separate the lawns physically, audibly, and visually into rooms that give users a feeling of being alone but not cramped into little spaces. The only thing that has me from giving it 5 stars is its lack of maintenance. I know that is a part of its charm, and I support it being a low-maintenance park, but a certain lack of care to the lawns makes it hard to enjoy sunbathing on the grass! As a teacher who brings students to this park daily I can say this park has really come to life over the last year. Repairs have been made across the board to fences, the playground got brand new sand and much of the shrubbery got a nice update. The fact that this park has everything I need to teach (basketball courts, tennis court, soccer court and a volleyball court). My favorite park in West Berkeley. The way the light moves through the trees is so peaceful. I love the creek, the expanse of grass that dogs love, the cafe seating that opens out to the park, the playground, tennis court & community garden, plus there's always parking around if you didn't happen to walk or bike there that day. My friend and I have been going to this park for years. Although the park has some faults (sketchy characters), it is a great park. There are volleyball, basketball, soccer, and tennis courts, a play structure and a big grassy area. The school across the street and some other schools take their kids there for recess, and school team sport games. Strawberry Creek runs through the center of the park and little kids like to play in it. New sand has been put in the playground area and most of the graffiti has been cleaned up. There has been a big cleanup recently which made the park a much more enjoyable place. read more
