Wing Chun Kung Fu Classes, Manchester…read more Wing Chun Kung Fu is a very, very clever Martial Art. I have been studying Wing Chun Kung Fu in Manchester for about 4 years. I have tried other Martial Arts, but have found none as simple, direct and effective as Wing Chun. My Sifu (Darryl Moy) has been studying Wing Chun for over 20 years, as well as teaching for a great number of years. This shows in his knowledge and skill. I would reccomend this class to anyone, interested in learning Martial Arts, either to improve their health, themselves, or for self-defence. The classes are in the centre of Manchester, and as such are easy to get to from anywhere served by the metrolink, or buses or trains. If you would like to learn Wing Chun Kung Fu, it is well worth coming along to this class in Manchester, especially if you are looking for traditional Wing Chun.

I had previous…read moreexperience of joining a centre to learn Thai Boxing only to find out that the place was small, over crowded and had a rude instructor teaching there. With this in mind I joined FMA, paying £1000 for a year (cheaper option to their £1200 a year), and to my surprise it is completely different and was better than what I have expected. The centre had a welcoming ambience. The students were wear black and red martial arts uniform with the FMA logo on them, and they were looking smart. The person who operates the school and the other instructor who works there are friendly and they seems to communicate in a professional and friendly manner. Also students are taught respects every lesson as I was told by the instructor, and I have witnessed it throughout my years of training in that school. The students have got to bow when the enter the building, enter the mat, to the instructor and student (after practicing with them) amongst others. In addition, Family Martial Arts offers students the chance to become instructors, training them for long period of times to perfect them to tutor other students in the skills they have learnt in Martial Arts. This is one of their services that I prefer because it increases individuals' confidence and well as honing their skills in more than self defence. Overall, if you ask me whether I regret joining FMA, then the answer to the question is not at all. For a school that tutors more than self defence seems worth joining. In fact I would definitely recommend this place for people who wants to join a place to learn MMA.

Family Martial Arts Liverpool has changed my life…read more Since I began working with fma's great trainers I have learned how to defend myself from people a lot bigger than me, I have learned how to discipline my mind and I've achieved a healthy body through that discipline and I've made great friends. I think the key to the my transformation is down to the amount of attention you get from the trainers we train 4 times a week mon - thur and there is extra classes for those who want to do more. We at our office (Sale Print FX in Manchester) wanted to start taking MMA classes. There's seven of us who have never trained in MMA before and we're not what you would describe as tough bunch. Anyway, we contacted The MMA Academy in Liverpool as we heard that those guys have some of the best MMA training facilities and instructors in the northwest and we heard that are putting together corporate MMA packages. 9 of us travelled to Liverpool for a 2 day beginners training package. The sessions were 5 hours per day which seems frightening but we went through the main martial arts that MMA applies. We began learning basic defensive and attacking moves for Muay Thai Boxing, Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, how to integrate those disciplines. UFC Star Jason Tan was our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach (OMG!!) we had the immense ex British Muay Thai Boxing champ Peter Davies for Thai and the (GSP LIKE) Al Sheperd for wrestling. This was like a dream come true for us guys as we have actually watched theses guys compete and now they are teaching us!!! The two days were absolutely amazing introduction to MMA for us. The corporate package meant we were trained personally and had the gym to ourselves. Think some of the guys in the office were worried about some Brock Lesnar kinda guy wanting to make us tap out ! It wasn't like that at all. Our anxieties were soon gone and we engaged in the most brillian sporting experience ever. I was bleedin' knackered after like but I suppose that WAS the intention! We get to Liverpool twice a week now an Jason Tan is getting three of us into his Ground Control Grappling event as novices which we are really looking forward to do. Jason, Peter, AL and Ryan thanks lads. it has been amazing to get into MMA. The gym and coaches ROCK!! There are loads of prolific and patient (especially with me) higher belts available to roll with at any given class, of which there are many. In particular, there are 0630 classes every weekday morning, day classes, and regular open mats. Many of us regularly compete, so if you're interested in that you'll find loads of support in the gym. There are amazing kids classes, private female-only classes, regular inter-gym tournaments, guest teachers, and seminars with big names. Just to top it all off; the price point for unlimited access is very reasonable and Steve the head coach/owner is the most likeable and genuine person; he always makes time for everyone. There are intro classes and tours available, if you're considering joining a BJJ gym, I think this is the best in Manchester.

It's Western Style kickboxing opposed to Thai and they train on Tuesday night 7-8.30 and Thursday night 6-7 I think its definitely worth highlighting through yelp just because of value for money, I see a lot of very expensive Martial Arts clubs, and clubs that want you to sign up to monthly contracts etc. Whereas this club nestled near the centre of Bramhall costs just £4.50 a lesson, you turn up you pay, you don't you don't pay, I personally like that flexibility opposed to paying a monthly subscription at another club or at a Gym where because you are paying monthly no matter what you feel obliged/pressured into using that membership. If you do find that you absolutely love it and go all the time then you can actually setup a standing order which makes the lessons £3.50 so even cheaper, but you don't 'have' to do that again it whatever suits you which I find helpful. and while I do like the flexibility of not having to go, I do actually end up training twice a week, but if for any reason like say work I can't get to a session it doesn't matter I've not lost any money. Tuesday tends to have more adults, and because its a longer session does tend to be more Fitness orientated, where Thursday has more kids and is good for Beginners or people who want to spar, Thursdays are actually getting more Teen and above people some of the older people being the parents who bring their kids and have decided not to sit on the side line any more. The club is treated fairly casually, while you will get a good workout and learn a martial art, it isn't as Discipline orientated as say more traditional Martial arts like Karate or Kendo (I've done Karate with two clubs prior to this) And one of the good bits if you're thinking about giving it a go, your first lesson is free, so really bar an hour or two there isn't really anything to lose.
