Due to a recent fall, I worked with Rachel Hermann on my hip. She made work, and it was work, fun yet very effective. She was excellent and I highly recommend her. I believe a professional should have good interpersonal skills as well as technical skills. She made what could have been tedious yet fun. I also appreciate getting hard copies of the exercises. I have debated writing this review for some time now but here goes…read more Thera Plus is a well equipped studio. I think they are trained and knowledgable. However I think they concentrate more on manipulation of an injury and working out their clients than fixing the problems though explanations and exercises. I have had two injuries and both times was not explained what was wrong or why the injuries had occurred. I was just put on the table and my muscles were massaged and pressed on etc. No real discussion of any sort. Very frustrating. I was basically ignored. At the end of two of my sessions I specifically asked what I could do at home to help the injury and prevent it and was told "don't do anything". Literally I walked in was put on a table and at the end was asked "when can I see you again" No discussions, no explanations, nothing. This did not sit well with me so I found another physical therapist. I had a complete explanation of my injury with a skeletal example of why it happened and exercises to fix and prevent the problem. The therapist spent over an hour with me. I am happy to say after a few weeks my injury immediately began to heal. I was sent home with exercises printed out for me. I also have a set of exercises that will help to strengthen my muscles to keep from injuring myself again. So glad I looked elsewhere.

The billing system seems like a mess. Early on, I paid by cash a few times (big mistake) and it took weeks to iron out what I owed. Then, later, I was randomly charged $100 I didn't owe. These are great folks, but they need a new billing system. Okay, money stuff done. Jen Duffie is an exceptional physical therapist. She helped me in my very worst moments; when I was dealing with excruciating pain. She's encouraging and non-judgmental. I've also been treated by Ashley Crain, as well at PTAS Jenny and Emily. I was also told that someone would call me to discuss the issue, and that was over 2 weeks ago and no call as of today (8/29). I'm sure they offer other stuff that may be beneficial, but for me, this was really a waste of time and money.

They not only helped me become pain free and put me back together, they also gave me the knowledge, skills and tools I need to help keep myself pain free, strengthen my body, and should I injure myself in the future, how to put myself back together. The human body will wreck itself trying to fix itself. After two kids and a slipped-disc back surgery, I had diastasis recti and a continual sore lower back. I would dread going to bed every night because I knew in the morning when I woke up my lower back muscles would be in so much pain. Some mornings I was not even able to bend over to touch my toes, but on my own pants, or sit on the floor to tie my shoes. After being an athlete all through high school and college, I knew this was not how the body was supposed to be, and not how my core nor my back should behave. I knew something was wrong with my core. I did not accept the idea that "this is how it is after two kids". TAKE THE TIME TO PUT YOURSELF BACK TOGETHER. Joanne not only helped me work to heal my diastasis recti and teach me isometric core exercises to continually keep my core strong for life, but also worked with me to release scar tissue from my back, and retrain my body to use the proper muscles for movement instead of the "work around" my body had created when my abs didn't work. My back muscles were doing all the work for my abs. She then retrained me how to sit, stand, walk, get out of bed, pick up my children, and finally how to hold myself and stay strong during workouts so I don't repeat any of these injuries again. Joanne and her team have literally given me my life back, and also given my husband his wife back, and my boys their mother back. For that I will be forever thankful. During my visits to physical therapy, I have watched Joanne teach a ballet dancer how to dance better, a baseball pitcher how to throw a ball better, a weight lifter how to lift better, and then me, how to do daily life things better. I'm convinced there is nothing Joanne doesn't know. She listens to what injuries you have, and then backtracks through your whole body to find the reason for the pain, and not just cure what hurts. She is concerned with making your body the best machine it can be, and how it can work in the most proper form. I highly recommend you go visit Joanne for anything that bothers you.
