So last weekend i paid Coriander a visit, the decor is rather 70's but luckily i had read the menu on-line and knew i had not just walked into yet another Indian that offers the same old same old menu that most in Rusholme do. The large group i had gone with booked our table, and upon arriving until leaving the service was prompt and considerate without making us feel in a hurry. All the meals arrived at the same time, and mind-blowingly delicious (yes we all dipped into each others dish as standard on a girly night out). I would recommend the Coriander Special Dal £7.20, Chicken Shaslic £8.90 and the Sag Alloo which was delicious and always my benchmark of finding a gem of a restaurant when it comes to Indian cuisine.

Full in a good way. My boyfriend and his Dad both enjoyed their chicken curries and we all commented how much more we enjoyed this meal than a curry mile curry. The staff were amiable, and curious as to what our opinions of the restaurant were, as they commented that they hadn't seen us before (this place must have a solid set of regulars). The only downsides to this restaurant are the location (a bit of a walk from both Chorlton and Didsbury, and opposite the cemetery) and the outdated decor.

I got racially abused a hell of a lot in Manchester but it still has a lot more life to it than most places I've ever been. One of the all-time highlights of not just Manchester, but the whole UK, is Curry Mile. It doesn't get much better. Some of the best curries in town, all kinds of wonderful South Asian, Middle Eastern, you name it, all sorts of food that will blow your mind. I've been coming here since I was little. It's a rough area but so is your nether region when unshaved. So my highlight will always be Rusholme Chippy, which is not so much a chippy but a kebab house, featuring the best Kobedeh Kebab in the entire world that I've ever had. Open late and a must-try.

Most cities offer a Chinatown. Some have a Little Italy. There are Jewish quarters, Polish…read moreneighbourhoods and other such places of cultured cuisine knocking around all over the UK. But how many of them have an entire mile dedicated to Indian food? Rusholme's section of Wilmslow Road is where you'll find a vast array of curry houses hotly anticipating your custom, as well as the obligatory variety of off-licenses due to the Bring Your Own Booze policy of many of the restaurants... Then, there's that which the uninitiated won't have heard of - the many Indian sweet shops and ice cream stops ideally placed for that one wafer thin mint that'll nickname you Mr Creosote after filling your belly with more spicy sauces than are humanly healthy. If you have relatives or friends visiting and they like it hot, a visit here is a must. At first, it's completely mind-boggling. What differentiates one curry house from the next? Don't they all serve the same food? Well, this is where Yelp does the hard work for you - we're here to Yelp you after all. Take the ones you're interested in. Maybe they offer something a little different? Sri Lankan cuisine, a charcoal pit, Pakistani, Punjab, Afghan... then search them in Yelp and see what we have to say about them. Heck, we're like one of those price comparison websites. We're your middleman. We went to the bad ones when we were students, so you don't have to. The Curry Mile also has a policy somewhat alien to the rest of the UK. Rusholmers live like New Yorkers. If you want curry at 4am, you can get curry at 4am. A lot of these places stay open well into the wee small hours and then some. Everyone should visit here at least once. It's bright and shiny enough for tourists, authentic enough for foodies, cheap enough for students, lively enough for groups and different enough for just about every taste. Definitely put this on your to-do list if you're new to the great city of Manchester.

However, this one is really flash, and pretty pricey as well. Basically they sit you in a waiting area while they prepare your table for you, which I've never experienced because pretty much all of the places I have been to already have the tables ready. Anyway, it wasn't too bad, but for some reason I prefer the ones in Australia.

It's interesting how you order at the lobby waiting area and move to your table only after you have placed your order. For starters, we got the lamb shish kebab which packed a ton of flavor. I wouldn't have expected that much flavor in the kebab just by looking at it. I wish it came with some sort of sauce so I wasn't eating just a plain kebab. For our mains, we got a chicken tikka masala and a lamb chili bhuna. It's cool how both of our entrees were placed on a box with a lit candle to keep our food warm. It's pretty elegant and nifty! I thought both dishes were tasty! The tikka masala was creamy and the chicken was tender. We ordered some garlic naan to wipe it clean! The lamb was excellent as well. Even though there are two chili signs on the menu, we asked them to tone it down to a mild spice level and it was perfect. The lamb was soft and the chili sauce was terrific. Overall, it was a unique dining experience and Rajdoot is definitely on the fancier end of the spectrum when it comes to Indian food.

I didn't feel rushed though, and bf loved the immediate arrival of beer to his hand. Food wise, I was tempted by a few things on this interesting Bangladeshi menu and got some helpful and decisive advice from the waiter. In the end I want for the chicken thawa which wasn't particularly unusual in flavour (I chickened out of the satkora fruit option which I will get next time) but very well done and a very generous portion. I thought the aloo gobi was the best I've had in ages. We also tried onion bhajis and I would say Blue Nile is slightly beaten out by Stockport rival Last Monsoon in terms of flavour and crispiness. Bf had lamb handi which he really enjoyed - the meat was tender and not at all stringy or dry. Definitely recommend if you like lamb. As above service is very good and it's a nice restaurant with some cool tropical fish tanks in the walls. Kind of reminds me of the Purple Pakora in Poynton. Overall this is yet another good restaurant in the independent Hazel Grove scene (we commented on Friday that the chains have not moved in here, which is maybe why there is such diversity and quality) and I will be sure to come back.

Nine of us were booked in for a Saturday night curry at 8pm and they were ready for us, or so we thought. We ordered drinks, poppadoms, chutney trays, starters and mains as normal - a few of us decided to forego the starter for just a main course. Had we known that we'd all be waiting nearly an hour to be served the starters we'd have demanded piles of extra poppadoms for free. Having to ask twice where our food was was unacceptable to say the least. The waiter couldn't have been less bothered. I struggled to figure out whether it was a case of them having too few staff being over-worked, or too many staff doing sweet F.A. Needless to say, the majority of the group who had starters were disappointed with the end result. They were saved from a Eek! 1 star review because the main courses, especially the naan breads, were, on the whole, pretty good and decently sized. I had really high hopes that the restaurant would live up to the takeaway - there can't be many places where this sadly isn't the case. For the time being I'll stick with their takeaway menu.

The doorman dressed in gorgeous Indian finery was an exciting start and we were warmly greeted on arrival. Drinks were served promptly from the friendly bartender. Downstairs in the fancy dining room we enjoyed some poppadoms with a stellar pickle tray - much wider choice than usual including my favourite lime pickle and a couple of other unusual choices. For mains I had the peshawari chicken, a new dish from their punjabi specialities section which was rich and flavourful, I'd recommend it. I also ordered an aubergine side dish which I thought was absolutely excellent although i could barely eat it as my mains portion was so generous. This is easily up there with Akbar's and Zouk as one of the premium Indian restaurants in Manchester city centre.

How handy is that for a city centre? Located right on the edge of the heart of Manchester's shopping district, it's a great spot to stop off on the way home or make an effort for in the context of a night out. And its riverside location certainly doesn't hurt. The Punjabi themed menu is delicious and inspiring. One of my favourite accompaniments is the aloo paratha, a chapatti which you think looks dry but is actually chockfull of coriander and tender, moist mashed potatoes. The Karahi section is truly amazing, with a tasty chickpea dahl, paneer shahi (Indian cheese with cream of cashew nuts, mustard seeds and tomatoes), and some incredible, melt in the mouth meats. Seafood is super too, the tiger prawns with peppery leaves being an excellent choice. We had delicious marinated white fish, tandoori chicken, mixed starters and a truly awe-inspiring giant naan on a tree. Wowsers! It was a great place to bring my London colleagues for a lovely bit of dinner on a Tuesday night. They were so accommodating, and brought all our food over speedily, even bringing us extra mango chutney and onion and tomato for our poppadoms. It's not formulaic or over-traditional, and it feels special. This place has a modern twist, and housed in one of the most impressive riverside buildings the city offers it makes for a delightful dining experience with its soft neon lighting, urban styling and water feature. It's definitely for connoisseurs who are looking for something slightly different, and it's a great place to bring a date or a family member... anyone you're looking to impress really!
