We came on the Sunday before we left, and the store didn't open until 11:00am, but there were already door crashers waiting to go inside. I had been to a Len's Mill store previously when I had lived in London, and it was alright, nothing too special. It's more of a big warehouse looking store and sells a bit of everything. While my mom was looking through the fabrics, I ended up walking around, they had a bunch of clothing items, craft supplies, bedding, kitchen and bathroom decor. They had a lot of snacks at the cash register too. I ended up getting some pretzel snacks and some candy. Overall, this store is a unique store with many different items. Although this store isn't the cleanest, or most organized, but you can certainly find some treasures. Unfortunately, we don't have a location in Windsor, maybe one day.

Located in the silos in the town of St. Jacob's, around the corner from the EcoCafe, Conestoga River Pottery has a lot to offer anyone walking through the door. Every shelf is filled with unique peices and collections for purchase. Its inspirational and quite lovely to bear witness to such beauty and creativity. I walked in and took my time in looking around. Found this gorgeous travel mug, a heart ornament and a small magnet made from another local artist of the landscape from BC. Where I had just visited months earlier. The young lady working was friendly. I called before going to ensure they would be open. She was talkative and upbeat. Definitely chipper compared to the other person there. Not too sure if the older gentleman was the potter/artist. He didnt seem very friendly, unfortunately. Perhaps my expectations are too high these days for people to offer a little bit more warmth. Especially with respect to this current, temporary pandemic. I understand everyone has their own ways of coping and we are all individually processing the changing times in whatever ways we can manage. When business owners are not personable, it makes me not want to be supportive. That's how I think as a patron and that's my bottom line. The mug I got is pretty awesome. It has a corked top. I encouraged some friends to visit, hopefully they'll follow through on that. And they'll have some good interactions with the shop owner.

There is also a classroom where you can learn some new skills and take classes (many of them are great for kids). They also custom framing, if you need that sort of thing done). This Michaels store is a relatively recent addition that was built with the reconstruction of the plaza at 500 Fairway Road South. The store is quite large and the selection quite varied... which leads to the major problem with the store: The staff aren't very helpful. The folks who work here are friendly enough, but it seems that most don't really know all that much about what's in the store. This is compounded by the fact that the store is so large. I understand that the people who work here can't know everything about every craft, but looking for a specific item, we asked around and were told various answers, but eventually we just stumbled upon the item that we wanted ourselves... which leads to the other issue I have with the store: The merchandise is quite expensive. When we did find the item that we wanted, it was really double the cost of the item at other competitive stores. This was mitigated by the fact that, yes, we did receive in our e-mail the 50% off coupon for one item only. You can sign up for their e-mail marketing and receive a 40% or 50% off coupon on a regular basis, but if I have more than one item (or an item that is already on sale, as the coupon does not work for these items) then I'm generally out of luck. Michaels does have one great thing going for it. They are open 7 days a week and open until 9 pm on Saturdays, which is a real plus. When you just need to get your project done, you'll be glad to know that Michaels is there for you in a pinch.

This maybe why I enjoy shopping at Michael's. The house decorative items are great. Yes USE their coupons, and be a smart shopper, you can find the coupons in your flyers or phone. The Cambridge store, I have found needs some improvement in management, seems very old style, and workflow improvements are needed at check out, especially at busy times. I recently meandered through downtown Orangeville, Ontario while on a visit from Vancouver and…read morestumbled upon this delightful bookstore. It was well stocked and organized. The array of fiction was impressive and there was a good mix of contemporary fiction and classic literature. The woman behind the counter was delightful and we engaged in a thoughtful conversation that I greatly appreciated. I could tell that this store was a place that took pride in what it does and as a result is an integral part of the vibrant historic downtown Orangeville that has been able to have thrive, which is remarkable in an age where many old Downtowns have suffered at the hand of shopping malls and big box stores. I will go out of my way to come here again next time I am in Southern Ontario, and will stop to buy a few books to read in one of the delightful coffee shops nearby.
