I mostly go to the "Y" Drive In to fill up our propane tank. There are fewer places since the pandemic where you can take your own tank to refill. The folks at "Y" Drive In always are friendly, positive, and helpful. Just go pay for the amount you need, and then show the receipt to the friendly attendant, and they will take care of it. It's great to find a place that has both a good product and excellent customer service. That's the difference between a chain store and one that is locally owed and operated. No whining at the "Y"! San Marcos Country Corner Store is supposed to be a quick stop -- you know, grab a Coke, some tortillas, maybe a jar of mayo -- in and out in five minutes tops. But instead, I was stuck waiting over 35 minutes just to get my items. Ridiculous. The staff? Rude, careless, and clearly miserable. That skinny girl and the one with the nasty attitude both looked like they hated being there -- and it shows. There's zero customer service, no urgency, no respect. If they don't want to work, then stay home. Simple as that. This store used to be a quick, easy stop. Now it's a total waste of time. I'd rather drive to Walmart and get what I need without dealing with the attitude or the 40-minute wait. Never again.

However, the selection is greater than one might imagine, especially for basic canned, boxed or refrigerated foods and for needed household items like cleaning supplies, and even a few tools, personal care and beauty, over-the-counter meds, a few office and school supplies, decorator and party supplies, and seasonal items. While they don't have hot coffee and foods like a regular convenience store, they are a store that is quite convenient. Most of the store is dedicated to offering foods, and things you would need for the kitchen. Of course, there are snack foods, sodas, milk, juices, cake mixes, basic pantry items., etc. But you will find other things that might surprise you. I found some Christmas decorations I needed for my office at a great price. It pays to go in a look around. This location has a FedEx station inside for package drop-offs. Judging from my visits, there was always a few people ahead of me at the counter, and with some customers it was slow, but it is still faster than going all the way to Walmart, especially if you just need one or two things. The parking lot is spacious and well lit at night.
