I have never made a point to review anything on the Internet before, but I feel so strongly about my overwhelmingly positive experience at ILKB that I wanted to write something so that everyone else knows how amazing this place is. :) Although I could go on for paragraphs regarding my lack of athletic ability and how intimidating I have always found the scary weight-lifting area of any gym to be, I will simply say that I was a beginner athletically when I tried ILKB for the first time. At the first class, I had a one-on-one consultation before we started the workout to discuss my goals, background, and abilities. I then had one-to-one guidance throughout the class, where the instructor helped teach me the basic moves of kickboxing (jabs, crosses, upper-cuts, hooks, front kicks, round house kicks), and was then provided a follow up session after class to discuss how I felt and what my membership options were. I immediately signed up for the unlimited membership at my own preference, but (I think it's important to note) never felt pushed into the option-the instructors were ridiculously kind and receptive to what I had to say, nor did they try to sell/force me into anything. It has been a year since I joined the gym, and there really aren't enough words to describe what ILKB has given me. While every class follows a similar format (15 minutes of intense warm-up cardio and weight-bearing exercises, followed by 30 min of. bag drills, then 5-10 min. of partner drills, then cool-down), no two classes are the same. I always leave the class a sweaty hot mess, but a sweaty hot mess that feels like a bad-ass too. :) Routine attendance has given me muscle definition, weight loss, higher endurance, greater strength, and more flexibility. I have seen an insane amount of improvement in my form and technique, and it's amazing to consider where I was when I first started kickboxing. In addition, ILKB has an amazing sense of community-the instructors (especially at this Astoria location!) know everyone by name, and consistently help you to improve your form and technique (I still really struggle with round-house kicks). One of the great things about kickboxing is that no matter how long you've been doing it, you're still always a student-you never really plateau. There's always a way to improve your technique, increase the intensity of your workout, or modify your workout. ILKB also offers routine challenges for overall healthy lifestyle changes in and out of the gym (Abs for April was one of my favorites) as a way to really step up your workout. I should stop before this becomes a novel, but again, I can't say enough positive things about ILKB, especially the Astoria location. This is a gym that truly promotes positive body image, community, and having a fun but thorough workout. The instructors (all of whom are ridiculously positive, sweet, motivational, and funny) have helped transform me from a couch-dwelling carb-aholic to a carb-aholic that works out weekly. ;) If you're looking for a gym and a workout to totally transform how you view fitness and help you feel transformed, this is it!! read more

I kickboxed for about a year when I lived in Virginia. And when I say kickboxed I don't mean I went to a cardio class where I punched the air for 40 minutes at the gym. I was fortunate enough to train under a bad ass pro who utilized bags. It was awesome. When I moved to New York I had a hard time finding a new place to train. I'm an actress, and my time spent at some of the more serious places left me terrified I would get my nose broken or my cheek bone busted. Not helpful for the career... However, I wanted BAGS and someone to kick my BUTT. I wanted to get strong, I wanted to get fast, and I wanted to feel empowered. I happened upon http://ilovekickboxing.c... (Astoria) through Groupon and figured WHAT THE HELL. It cost next to nothing to try it out a few times, and I was desperate for something that wasn't the elliptical. From the moment you sign up with the company, the staff are immediately on your team. They ALL get to know you and your goals the first day, check in with you frequently and make you feel more than welcome. They provide a perfect balance of both kicking your butt and praising you. They're at least half the reason I'm in love with this place and show up about twice a week. The classes are perfectly structured. The first third of class is spent conditioning, the second third nailing combos on a bag, and the last third is partner work. Are you looking to tone? Great, you get your resistance from loads of bag work and plenty of spot-focused conditioning. Are you trying to lose weight? Great, between the cardio and conditioning you'll definitely shed pounds. I've never gotten a better, more well-rounded, fun, tough and encouraging workout anywhere else. I'm so stoked I found this place. It's become an addiction. Not only am I stronger physically, I feel my confidence has risen. Being a small girl in NYC isn't always the safest. The training here has engrained itself into my subconscious, and it's nice to know if I ever feel threatened I can act quickly and effectively. I love iLoveKickboxing in Astoria! The classes are a lot of fun and I feel like I'm getting a great workout every time. I started taking classes in June after procrastinating about joining for a few months, and I'm so glad that I did! I am definitely more fit than when I started. The 15 minutes of conditioning at the beginning can be difficult, but its definitely gotten easier for me and I like the challenge. The bag rounds are so much fun and satisfying, especially the kicks! Each class is different, both with conditioning and the bag combos, so it never gets boring. I really enjoy working out with the music they play during class, it's fun and helps me to keep up my pace (Shout out to Justin for his excellent song selections). Also I love all of the instructors! They are so nice and motivate you to work harder and improve, and give good advice for improving technique. They are each especially good in certain areas, and I really like that they team up to lead the different parts of the class. Special shout out to the instructor who taught my first class, Gabby, who is amazing and always seems so happy to be there, she makes you excited to be there too. Kickboxing is a wonderful workout, and it really makes you feel like you are getting more control over your body and how it looks/what you can do. I feel more empowered from taking these classes, and I enjoy working out with other women (and men!) who are having the same experience. Where do I start?! I absolutely love this place! I have just recently discovered kickboxing (not that I didn't know of the sport, I just never tried it prior to signing up for iLoveKickboxing.com). To be completely honest, I am the type of person who would try any kind of sport, but I usually don't stick to it for more than a few months. I quickly get bored and I lose motivation. I am almost a 100% sure that I will NOT quit kickboxing for a WHILE unless it's a money issue. When I first got the idea of kickboxing, I googled kickboxing places in Astoria, I did my research, and quickly found out that iLoveKickBoxing.com has lots of really good reviews, so I decided to purchase a Groupon and give it a try. Despite the amazing reviews, I still felt very intimidated by the idea of going to my very first kickboxing class and making a fool of myself, because, trust me when I say this, I was COMPLETELY out of shape and I thought of myself as of someone with very little to no strength. Oh, I was so wrong! I have never felt more comfortable doing a sport, and training with a group of people. First of all, I realized that I wasn't the only one out of shape and that not everyone is a professional but, most importantly, the instructors are so amazing, so motivating and so nice! The instructors made my experience incredibly pleasant. I have absolutely no regrets for joining this amazing kickboxing gym and I recommend it to everyone! read more

This place is amazing! I started coming here in January after getting a Groupon and I signed up for a membership my first day. Now I come 5, 6, or 7 times a week. I was instantly hooked- there's something extremely satisfying about pushing yourself beyond your limits and accomplishing more than you thought you could. I didn't know how much I could sweat! The instructors are incredible. Super friendly and encouraging, learn your name wicked fast, and it really feels like they're looking out for your work out. The personal attention here is great. Not only have I noticed a lot of physical changes since I started, I've definitely developed more confidence and I'm a lot happier. I think it made me better at my job, too. It's great for relieving stress and you'll leave feeling super pumped! I'm a fan of the morning classes, which are pretty small and you get a lot of attention, but the night classes and evening classes can be great because there's a lot more people and therefore a lot more energy in the room; it's absolutely a rush and a thrill. The studio moved to this new location recently. It's nice and new, with lots of space, but I will say I miss the mirrors! It was nice being able to keep my technique and form in check visually. And the mats get really slippery sometime if it's even slightly wet. There have been a lot of other changes, too, that I'm still getting used to. read more

After 3 months of being losing weight on my own by walking and eating healthier, a friend of mine suggested me to try kickboxing. He was also sort of new to kickboxing, but he noticed right away, that he was toning his body. So I decided to give it a try, because, although my daily walks was helping me, I reached the point that I needed the extra work out. As soon as I walked in to this place, I noticed the great energy that the instructors and people in there have. After my first class was over, I thought "I am in!" . Next day I could barely walk, I was sooooooooooo sore! , but somehow, was the best feeling I have in ages! I was finally challenging my body to a level I never did before. Since then, I rarely miss a day of not going there. It's my therapy. In only 3 months I noticed that my strength has increase, and I have been losing more weight. I could be writing for ever about all the positive things about this place and of course, the instructors there.They are AMAZING! ILKB Astoria NY, has a great schedule. Yes, some hours get busier than other hours, but there are many hours to choose from. To me, the only downside of this place, it's that doesn't have showers. But nothing is perfect. What can I say about this place IT IS AMAZING . I found out about Ilovekickboxing thru group on . I bought the deal and I wait for the courage to start the classes . I gained a lot of weight last year . I have foot spurs in both of my feet and the treatment I had to go thru was based on cortisone shots which made me retain water and gain weight . I am still fighting for this weight to be gone . It doesn't belong to me lol. Anyway , I got the deal on group on and I honestly thought I would not be able to keep up with the classes . The idea of working out with bare foot scared me because of the pain I had suffering. I finally decide to go for the trial . I got there ( oldest location ) and I saw Gabby teaching the class . She looked like a ninja lol . I thought to myself - NO way I gonna do anything of this . It was middle of august . I had my first class and I did it :) I became a member right away . On my first month I could not jump or kick . But now , I can jump and my kicks are getting much stronger . I am so happy and thankful. Everybody is so nice . The instructors are AMAZING. They are so skilled and patient . I can't believe what I can do now and I am excited to know that I can be better every class . Thank you thank you !!!! If I can do it everybody can do it . My roommate and I had been wanting to try out some kickboxing classes so I started to do some research. That's when I came across iLoveKickboxing.com. We read reviews and success stories and decided that it would be more than worth it to try out (especially getting the free gloves!!) We bought 5 classes for $29.99. Since my first class I've been OBSESSED. I played sports growing up so high intensity workouts have always been my thing. Love them! But in recent years it's been difficult for me to find a solid workout routine and stick with it for more than 3 or 4 months at a time. I never could pinpoint why I was having trouble sticking with a workout but after trying KB I knew - because I was bored! One thing I will NEVER be at ILKB!!! Literally the most amazing workout I've ever experienced, so much fun that it doesn't even feel like 60 minutes. Not to mention the gym in Astoria is so clean and welcoming. And the instructors make you feel right at home. I haven't even been a member for a full 2 months yet and they already greet me by name every time I go in. I've been coming to this classes since August and I just feel amazing, this workout is amazing, lot of cardio, helps you release stress and have so much fun. But what I love the most is not the incredible work out this is, it is the people that make this place so special, every single instructor can make you feel like part of a family, a very diverse family from all races, the way they teach always making sure you really understand what's going on, helping you develope skills you didn't even imagine you can have, encouraging you keep moving all the time, never giving up, teaching to work with a partner, enjoying every single drop of sweat! They recently moved from another location, and let me tell you we are loving soooo much this new one, spacious, comfortable, in the women's lockers they even have for us to use in our days, and hair bands. The contest they do all the time (even tho I haven't been able to go), i can see pictures of special events so people can interact with everybody, feels just like a group of friends that work out and enjoy life! This was my first time at the Astoria location. IT WAS GREAT. Gabby was excellent helper from when I walked in the door until I left. If I had any questions she helped, even through the kickboxing class she was right there. If you cant do something the instructor wants you to do, Gabby will be right there with a easier way to do it. Like if you cant do a burpee (I really cant do a burpee) you do a jump squat (so you know I did the jump squat). Laura is a GREAT instructor. She kicked my ass the first 20 minutes of class. OMG. I was like shes really working my entire body. Gabby WAS GREAT also, because when I wanted to give up, SHE WAS RIGHT THERE PUSHING ME THROUGH. If I had the money I would definitely sign up for the membership. I came from Brooklyn all the way to Astoria and it was worth it. That morning class KICKED MY ASS. This place is great! I've been attending on a groupon (10 classes and a pair of boxing gloves for about 50$). I often take fitness classes because it forces me to push myself, whereas if I work out on my own it's too easy to slack off. This has been one of the best classes I've taken. The instructors are extremely clear and descriptive when leading class, but if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask for help! They are great at making sure that everyone is getting the most out of their workout. The staff is super friendly and enthusiastic. Between the staff and the other class goers the whole place is a very motivating environment. The ten minute warm up at the start of every class is so intense, it feels like boot camp. I've pushed myself further than I thought I could during these warm up. And they always switch it up so you're not doing the same exercises every class, you're always being challenged. Only downside is that there are no showers, so if you're taking an early morning class before work, plan accordingly! Otherwise I definitely strongly recommend this place to anyone who wants to challenge themselves! read more

I found Moon S Lee (ILKB) while searching for a good studio to join close to home (the shorter the commute, the more likely I will go, let's be honest). They had stellar reviews and a pretty awesome deal running so I decided to check it out. I felt extremely welcomed from the moment I step foot in the door and Cara introduced herself and began talking a little about my fitness goals and all that good stuff. Even though I purchased the 3 class deal, I knew after the first class that I would get more than my money's worth with classes like that. Signed up for the unlimited monthly right then and there and couldn't be happier. Every single instructor gives their all every class, they're super helpful, energetic, hilarious and just generally great people. Amazing workout, challenging and rewarding. They're class is a nice mix of overall conditioning, great core work and a lot of emphasis on technique as well which is awesome. I have been a member at ILKB Astoria for a few months now and I am absolutely hooked. This is the first time in my life I've actually looked forward to a work out. I started with the Groupon deal but signed up to become a member that same night after getting the best workout I've ever had. The instructors are awesome and always motivate you to push through each work out. Not only do the workouts vary and continue to challenge you, but this is the BEST form of stress relief after a work day! The first 15 minutes of class is a challenging conditioning set, followed by bag rounds, a speed round, partner rounds and finally a cool down for a one hour class. There are members at all different levels, and the instructors are always helping you to get better form. The facility is clean and conveniently located in Astoria. This class has given me more energy than any other physical activity. I started to see results right away and enjoy seeing that hard work truly does pay off! Signing up for ILoveKickboxing was one of the best health decisions Ive ever made! For years, I've struggled with my weight, doing the same routines at the gym and not even knowing if they were actually effective. I finally chose to start a fitness class and enrolled in IloveKickboxing in February. It was a huge success! The classes are so much fun and you feel like you've actually worked every muscle in your body. I will be honest though, in the beginning the classes are brutal but the feeling after you are finished each time is so rewarding. And if you keep up with it you will see results. I was going straight for 3 months and lost about 15lbs but then unfortunately summer rolled in and going out eating, drinking, etc did not help. But if you stay in track and keep a healthy diet, you will lose weight and become lean! It is very motivating seeing your results day by day. The staff is super friendly, great instructors. I've been an ILKB member past two months and absolutely LOVE it. I originally bought a Groupon package, but had such a great time in my first class that I signed up immediately! First and foremost, the staff is very welcoming and friendly! The instructors are motivating and really push you. The environment is very inclusive - people at all different skill levels train together. The studio is clean and located quite close to the Steinway M/R stop. Be sure to bring your A game - you're going to be working hard! Class begins with a warm-up and conditioning. There are a series of bag rounds, and some partner training. Within the hour, you work every part of your body. Plus, it's really satisfying to work out your aggression on a bag if you've had a difficult day. Lastly, I absolutely love the music selection. Once a month, there is a super-fun themed DJ night! I've felt so much more energized since I began training here, and enjoy class so much more that going to the gym. I signed up online for the 5 classes for $30, I went to take my first class, and met James, he and all the other instructors are awesome. They are upbeat, helpful, funny, and you can tell that they really enjoy what they're doing. Included in the $30 charge, came the gloves, a small towel and a water bottle. We did all the paperwork and I started taking the class right away. IT KICKED MY BUTT!! I was out of breath and tired with just the "warm up", then came the FUN part, KICKING AND PUNCHING! it was so much fun and that hour went by extremely quick. The other members are friendly and don't make you feel intimidated, everyone is doing their own thing and the instructors are constantly walking around helping you to correct the moves if you're doing them wrong or congratulating you if you're doing it right. I loved everything about the class, so much, that at the end I decided to sign up for the unlimited program...bikini body, here I come!! I love this place! The workout is intense, dynamic, and pushes your limits. It's doable at any fitness level because you can always push yourself to do more. I hate working out on machines and the elliptical/treadmill are just plain boring. These classes are fun and getting to punch and kick out all my frustrations is an added bonus! I feel myself improving, getting stronger and faster all the time. And I've already dropped 20 lbs. The other great thing about this place is the people. The instructors all know you by name and it feels like a family. They notice when you're doing well and always offer tips and encouragement. And when you're slacking off they are on you to get your head back into it and push yourself! I look forward to class and am seriously bummed when I can't make it. But they're constantly adding on more classes- early morning as well as late night. You really get your money's worth- and the price is very reasonable to begin with! I've always been an active and athletic person, but I would constantly get bored at the gym and feel uninspired to go back day after day. Being a dancer, I realized a workout class format would work best with my personality, and since I live mere blocks away from this Astoria location, it kept crossing my mind that I should try kickboxing... and I'm SO glad I did! Not only has it held my interest each class and inspired me to come back day after day, but it has already changed my body after only a month of taking class. The instructors knew me by name immediately and are full of encouraging and constructive comments throughout each class. I leave feeling accomplished (and sweaty!) every time. Our son loves it! Moon S. Lee Martial Arts were recommended to us by a friend. Their children are attending it for more than 4 years and they are very happy with it. I have seen all the classes our son attended and I have to say that I am impressed by high energy of every class. There is no slacking off! The instructors are wonderful and there are always at least 4 of them per class- every child gets one on one attention. There is a friendly and outgoing vibe in the school but the sessions are high energy and intense. The children are getting good exercise, team work, focus, good work ethic and respect are encouraged. My son has anxiety and I can see the difference in him since we started- he is much more comfortable and at ease. I like the fact that there are steps for growth and improvement that my son can easily understand. The place itself is very clean, easy to get to and the staff is friendly and helpful. A+++ read more
